Is there anywhere it shows the max speed of a car? i have entered events with what seemed like a fast car, also with lots of tuned up parts, yet on straights the AI just blows past as my car is not fast enough? Does this game expect you to know a lot about all these cars?
 
If your car is on the limiter in top gear you need to adjust the gear ratios to allow a higher top speed.
 
If you have an adjustable gearbox then in the cars tuning menu if you go to the transmission option and the gear ratios and in there it will tell you what speed the car is geared for. It doesn't say how fast it will reach that speed though so the gearing could be too long for the car to reach it on any of the tracks in the game.

As people have said, you need to buy a customizable transmission for the car. It will show your top speed in the tuning menu. Also, before you enter an event, see what types of opponents you will be facing to better prepare yourself and your car.
 
Yea what they said earlier, you should really test a car for top speed if you care about it after tuning. If you add a good deal of HP, the gears will limit your speed (stock). So yea, you will need to customize the gear ratios.

Even if you have a standard tranny, just go in to the "Tuning" of your car, click on "Transmission", move the cursor over to the transmission listed in the middle of the screen on the rectangle. On the lower right of the rectangle is a dial that you can click on. Click on that, and you will see your gear ratios. Tops speed with that transmission will be listed in 1 of two places (top right for a standard tranny, bottom right for a custom tranny).
 
I can judge a car's performance by their torque, weight and drivetrain and comparing it to similar cars, so i dont really need it to show me its max speed

That's how it has always been in all GT games. If you're new to GT, then don't expect a arcade game NFS style.

LMAO, showing MPH doesnt make a game arcade, what are you 4 years old? No im not new just hoping Gt moves out of the 90's. And as for it being a sim? kind of, not close to Pc sims for realism. Thanks other posters for answering, I neevr saw the speed listed even though i have cars with the transmission upgrades.

We all know that is not accurate top speed. That does not take into account for aerodynamics.

Nothing will ever be accurate due to nature, wind variables, draft and slipstreaming, tire resistance, in/out corner patterns, humidity, you name it. But it gives you an idea of the top speed with your customizations.

Top speed will not change with mods, but only when changing the ratios. The tranny screen will show the same top speed whether you make 100 hp or 900 hp.
