Info says it comes with a 1.5L 111bhp NA engine yet it sounds like an electric & comes with a D gearbox like those fitted to an electric

The car is correct, and it only has one gear because it is equipped with a CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission). Among a few engine options the car also can be equipped with a 4-Speed Automatic or a 5-Speed Manual.

To tune the transmission to match the 5-Speed Manual:
Tune before adding any power parts/ changing oil
1st Final Gear: 3.550
Top Speed: 155
1st: 3.416
2nd: 1.842
3rd: 1.290
4th: 0.972
5th: 0.775
Final: 3.850

Okay thanks but the sound still has to be wrong

Not a problem!:)

Unfortunately, the sound isn't something we can do a whole lot about. I'd try the different exhaust types and see if they sound any closer to the actual car. Polyphony has said they are going to update the sounds, though it sounds like they won't be able to with the limitations of the PS3.

Im not an expert of mechanics but doesnt this car have the same automatic transmission as a 50cc motorcycle? The speed in the diagram is shown to be up to 330 km/h.
The best thing is, its faster with this stock transmission compared to the fully customizable 5 speed one.

The transmission is a CVT ( Continuously Variable Transmission ) which constantly changes gears to keep the engine at optimal revs for power.

Of course with the right circumstances, NOS, drafting and a long straight, you CAN max it out at 330km/h.

If a car comes with a CVT, like the Honda Jazz for example, I stick with it and just up the power to use it more effectively.

Bonus fact: F1 did experiment with CVT's in the 90s but were banned in 1994 out of fears that the big budget teams would dominate with a F1 usable CVT as no gear changing and constantly at peak power were it's main advantages. ;)

So a CVT, although boring, is on paper the best transmission? With this car it definitely is.

CVT is very hard to drive fast through corners and it is unpredictable at the limit. Besides, it reminds me of the Prius.

obviously if you put the gear ratios very short you could outdrag it? But still the max speed will be very low and the CVT has very high top speed.

I prefer shifting, but when all other factors are left unchanged except for the 5-speed close-ratio gearbox used in place of the CVT, on CH tires, the CVT is consistently faster for me. As it should be...

I believe you need to look up what a CVT gearbox is, and how it works.
I understand the CVT gearbox but are you saying they are that loud you cant here the engine, or is that sound supposed to be the engine because it runs at a more constant rev range.
Could it be its using an electric vehicle sound sample in error.

No. If you imagine taking an ordinary petrol engined, conventional gearbox car to the same revs as the CVT Mazda does at full throttle, you'll get the same sort of drone. It's not an electric car sample, it's what happens because the engine is being held at a constant RPM. The loud droning is the engine.
