No, a VW Convert, or a Eclipse Spyder is a chicks car.

Miata's are the soulchildren of Lotus Elan's, guy cars through and through.

Awww, the Eos certainly isn't a chick car. Ohhh wait, were you talking about the old Cabrio? Yeah, then THAT is a chick car...

VW Beetle mainly.

Course, I consider all VW's either too effeminate, or too...Yuppie, for me to be caught dead in. Literally, if I was in one and it was heading for a collision, I would jump out and take my chances rather than be found dead in a Jetta.

The GLI or "Bora" Jetta is most certainly not a chick car. And the Miata is and always will be a chick car first...or a small thin man that doesn't care about his appearance driving a chick car.

I've never seen ANYONE but a fat chick driving a "Bora" Jetta, ever.

I've seen several of them, so it wasn't a one time thing.

Chicks love Miata's.

Chicks love to ride in Miata's.

Guys who drive Miata's rarely have trouble finding cute chicks to sit in the other seat.

Chick cars aren't the last bastion of RWD purity on the market.

Or a driving enthusiasts car. Because they are mainly bought by driving enthusiasts. A V6 Mustang convertible, now that is a chick car.

A new Eclipse Spyder, chick car.

3 Eclipse, chick car.

PT Cruiser Convertible, chick car.

I don't think Miata's are bought by as many chick's as is assumed.

V-6 Mustang with a Manual, that's cool, it's cheap and fun enough, though the mileage isn't superior enough to the V-8 really, but it's 3-5k cheaper.

V-6 Mustang Convertible with an Automatic.

Now it's fat, slow, and it has a dumbstick, giving basically identical mileage to the V-8, but ruining any resemblance it had of performance, so it's only purpose is to be cute.

Miata's are always great handling fun to drive cars, if they were just supposed to be cute, they'd be FWD and cheaper to build.

I think the coupe Miata looks like a baby Viper. Kinda neat.

I like the hardtop Miata idea but I wonder how it will affect performance? My whole appeal with the Miata is that it's small, light, and zippy. I know it's only supposed to add 75lbs which isn't much but will the hard top change the dynamics any?

Remember the Miata LM cars in the first Gran Turismo game? That's what I used to call them, a "Baby Viper". :D They were fun to drive too(in the game).

Toronado
It doesn't, because they make no changes to the rigidity of the car. The top is still down occasionally, and putting it up doesn't change the structual intgrity either. I'm sure the Mazda Miata Coupe has higher crash test ability, but I'm guessing the hardtop will not.

Um, actually every convertible has better crash testing with the top up. Hard top, soft top, removeable top...anything that helps connect the top front of the car to the top back improves the longitudinal & lateral rigidity. Some more than others, of course. It's nothing like a roll cage or a real coupe, but it's better than nothing.

Just ask Volvo, Mercedes, BMW, Saab....

I spotted a few the other day (posted in the did you see anything good today thread)

I gotta say, I'm excited about this car. It just might be my next purchase.

Mmmm, yummy! Too bad there wasn’t more light – that metallic gray looks absolutely stunning in good light (I know, because that’s the same paint that coats my Mazda 3 :sly:).

Yeah, it's pretty tidy. Really though, with lights like that, it should be a rally car. And for that, it needs better suspension travel and some appropriate wheels and tyres.

There's a chap here in the UK that rallies an MX-5, it's quite hilarious. But also quiet a cool idea.

Lights are for endurance racing. I think the car was originally built to run in the 25 hours of thunderhill and Mazda changed their minds or something.
