McLaren fans, time to get your blood pumping! As you may know, you may have seen the Fina McLaren F1 GTR race around New York, Fuji, or even Citta di Aria. But when you look at it, McLaren has done VERY well in racing. For starters, McLaren has done well in Can-Am for 3 or 5 straight years. McLaren has raced the Indy 500 a few times. And by the way, I have a confession to make. I said that I didn't know if the McLaren F1 ever won Le Mans. But just last night, I learned that the McLaren F1 (yes, the AWESOME McLaren F1 won Le Mans outright on its first try in 1995. The McLaren F1 has done very well in GT racing as well. And let's not forget McLaren's Constructor championship victories, even with the Schumacher/Hakkinen battles. And what about that beautiful Mercedes SLR?

Surely, McLaren has a lot of racing history. And I think it needs to be in Gran Turismo 4 in greater detail. In fact, they have built the world's most awesome, street-legal race car. The McLaren F1 is basically a Formula One racer embodied into a superexotic you'll very rarely see on the streets (unless if they are kit cars). So GTPlanet, here's the question:

"Do you think McLaren should be further represented in Gran Turismo 4?"

They bear historical significance, so I think any car with historical signifiance should be in GT4, and to say McLaren has nothing to contribute is selfish and disrespectful to auto racing. If you're not going to have Ferrari or Porsche, get in McLaren.

Don't just listen to me. Reply now. Should GT4 welcome McLaren or slam the door on them?

<sarcasm> certainly not! What GT cars have they ever built?</sarcasm> I must say that this is the least controversial topic you've ever made, John. Must be running out of topics :)

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :O  :O :D   :O :O :D

YES!!!! :O: my Cutey McLarennyyyyy!!! Having McLaren in Gran Turismo 4 SHLOUD BE in greater detail and depth because this car is sooo special!!!! You are talking about a car that is straight out of the factory in a irrisistable PACKAGE!!! You getting a comfortable ride that can just be driven on the street and then be taken right onto the track!!! Its like such a dream come true on one seat....:O F1 ability + Super EXOTIC = me in luv with McLaren F1... :O :O :O :O

omg omg omg omg OMG OmG.. its like..If I see a McLaren F1 right infront of me... I bet I will be screaming and crying in happiness and joy just like how those "The Beetles" fan cry over just to see them perform. I bet I'll even cry and scream like them just to see the McLaren F1 perform on the track. :( Its so beautiful...beautiful CAR. Its so sad how I even got a Magic Top and Gran Turismo Prologue just because I wanted to drive the McLaren F1 Fina (long tail) and I still do play it just to DRIVE THIS ONE CAR!!!! err F1 or exotic BUT its BOTH!!!!!

omg I know I can go on for such a long time, but ill stop here and not get all crazy and excited to waste my energy. This topic SOOOO makes me want to read my

"Driving Ambition: The Official Inside Story of the McLaren F1"

yes peeps! this book got IT ALL about the McLaren F1, from the concept to the finishing touch to make it such a legendary car. with 270+ Pages of info (forgot exact page numbers) full of photos and written reports and info.

and finally YES! Gran Turismo 4 should put more of the other McLaren models in the game and with their OWN manufactor selection when you go and buy a car in the game. Why leave such a legendary car out of the game when it made such a BIG impact in auto history?!?! In fact, its so legendary that it is still talked and argued over. "XXXX vs McLaren F1" You see this ALL the time in any board when new cars come and tyhe public forums ALWAYS have this kind of topic that raises and bring the McLaren in it. Always compare it to the McLAren because its standard is so high!!!!!

And I talk to much about how much I luv McLaren F1... :O :O

And HI JOHN!!!!!! :O :O

Ahh... more testament as to why McLaren'sAngel likes talking to her boy John. Not having her to this topic would be a shame.

Anyhow, before your time, McLaren'sAngel, I've come up with this topic in January (the month I was born. I'm a Capricorn):
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37089

In it, my vs. battle was between the McLaren F1 and the Ferrari Enzo. I think Bruce McLaren's inspiration to the company is a great contribution to motorsports. It is about as much as any of the six makes represented in the six "Victory by Design" series (Ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo). McLaren is in good company and has earned every inch of it. As I've said, the McLaren F1 is sugar-sweet. I think last weekend or so, I played my favorite arcade racer "Super GT/SCUD Race." I think I rolled around in the Gulf McLaren. Now, when I first seen the McLaren F1, I was hoping to see the Gulf McLaren from the long-dead BPR racing series. The game won't ship until November, so there is still hope. But if anything, I think McLaren should be well-represented as it has a home in the world of automotive history. In a future reply, I will reply from my copy of "The Complete Book of Sports Cars" about the McLaren F1. Until then, take care!

McLaren: welcome to GT4, or uninvited? I wanted to make it a poll, but I chose not to.

That's more emoticons than I've seen in a long time - just where did you find this angel eh John?

Honestly surprised McLaren hasn't featured before now. When I think of most of the highest class supercars in the world though, they're not in GT a lot of the time. They're also generally Ferrari, McLaren or Porsche productions. There have been none of these, no Bugattis nor Bentleys, there's a number of notable omissions.

I don't know how much you could represent McLaren though. If they're in the history mode that's different. But car wise? We have the McLaren F1, the F1 GTR, the F1 LM, what else? What else would be included?

But McLaren have only built the F1 model. The LM and GT version of the car are just racing version of that same car.So basically there should only be 3 McLaren cars in GT 4,the one in GT4 Prologue,a road version and an LM/GT version.Everything else is a waste of space.

To answer Eagle's question, I tend to think of cars represented as like Lister in Gran Turismos 2 and 3. Not have such a big lineup, but be represented in one way or another. I don't think you can expect to see any more than 8 cars in GT4. The only exceptions would be variations of the McLaren F1. If you think about it, the Fina McLaren is good, but not enough. First off, the road car of this would be impressive, even the F1 GTR variations. Then for racing, the Gulf McLaren from the BPR Organisation (that's the correct spelling as the championship implied), the Yellow Corn McLaren in JGTC, even though McLaren and Lamborghini are more of "also-rans" in the JGTC. I don't know much on Can-Am cars from McLaren, but surely include them.

And as a "just for fun" deal, this is the thread and the post that began the friendly bond between myself and McLaren'sAngel:

Welcome to GTP, enjoy your stay :).
Sorry just thought i'd quickly get in that ive seen both the GTR and GTRLM in action at Le Mans and Brands Hatch :p and had a poke around inside and sat in the Harrods 1995 McLaren (lead Le Mans for 8 hours and nearly won) and had a natter with Derek Bell who drove it ;). The sound of them is just astonishing, soo so loud. Sorry couldn't resist.....

Anyway I think there should definatly be mor McLarens included in GT4. But from seeing that the Fina GTR LM is put under BMW as a manufacturer, I doubt there will be any more....

tiptopcream: whered you hear that the 179 was in GT4?

I'm sure daan would be the second to point out that the McLaren F1 isn't a road-legal race car, but a road car which some people took racing. It was designed as the ultimate road car and there was no intention of racing - the first to race them were private owners.

I wouldn't fear her, from the way she hopped about like a fragile bunny I'd say she's sorta inquisitive and friendly - my rabbit certainly is. She's even got her own knight in shining armour o_O Everyone wave to John as he rides his valiant steed.

We hear a lot of talk about the Ferrari license, but just what is the situation with McLaren? Does anyone know who owns it, if anyone? We have Mercedes nicely wrapped up, I wonder if the SLR won't make it under the Merc title in much the same way the F1 GTR is apparently appearing under BMW. I'd still like to be able to virtually visit a McLaren showroom. I should go get the picture from my living room of me in Mika Hakkinen's F1 car.

McLaren licence is held by EA (like all other licences as well:)). Don't know it's validity period though, but since the F1 FINA is represented in both japanese and european Prologue under the proper McLaren tag, guess there won't be any problem like the one with NTSC-PAL related problems with FIA authorities as the one in GT3 and F1 history vehicles represented there.

Also notice that McLaren brand and company is now partialy owned by Mercedes (not Daimler-Chrlysler) with tendency of total overtaking it in next 5 years period (even Bernart Haug of McLaren Mercedes F1 Team is a big stakeholder there). So, Mercedes could easily leave-out the rights to Sony, with all past and present cars under the McLaren tag, no matter of F1 FINA actually being represented in BMW garage, due to it's motorisation and legal reasons of ACQ ("Automobile Club de L'Quest", LeMans Race auhority body ).

I'm sure that SLR will be in GT4 as the flagship in Mercedes's garage (not McLaren's), as I can predict that SLR will be among the most expensive cars in the game, due to it's street price.

I can even imagine some kind of LM Edition of SLR in Dream Cars section, but this goes to "100% pure speculation" section.

Blame the website not me, but they do look similar, maybe he got confused... :D

Lets see, the fastest production car for over 10 years, most expensive for ages (CLK-GTR anybody?) And it looks cool. Also obviously the most important thing is that its British muahahahaha. (Oh and im not biased ;)

dont forget that Mercedes wanna buy McLaren too!.

Their Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren should be in GT4 if you ask me!.
It was designed by Adrian Newey, and he is the king in car-designers!.

The McLaren F1 is one of a kind actually aswell. It was a car designed with unlimited expenses!. They just wanted the
best car that could be done with the techs of its day, no matter
what the cost would be.

So.. and McLarens old CanAm cars should be in GT4 too i think.

It's really amazing when you consider it; the F1 was and still is the ultimate street car. The Enzo, almost ten years later, cannot match it in most categories, except price and... redness. The Mclaren even had a kickass lightweight kenwood CD soundsystem, and the BMW 6.1L V12 has got to be the coolest engine of all time.

There are other McLarens, not all F1 variations either. Like the M6GT do a search or go to www.ultimatecarpage.com .

AHHHH! Thanks live4speed! I was wondering what that model was called. In the back of my mind I was questioning whether or not that old gt car I thought was a Mclaren was actually one.

BTW, is this the corn-yellow car John was referring to?

gtr

See, that game has motion blur too.

Adrian Newey king? I choose you Ross Brawn.

The McLaren F1 really is a marvel, to have stood the test of time in such an age of development is an amazing feat. It deserves recognition.

And why is it EA seems to own every license on Earth? I know they're rich and they've been around longer than most companies but damn.

Well Eagle, it's the same reason why Tony George murdered all possible prospects of the United States Grand Prix. Indianpolis is George's Daytona. Daytona is France's Indianapolis. So of course when someone like PD want in on something like this, those Davids have to take down some kind of Goliaths to ultimately win bigtime licenses. And by the way, Eagle... you are one class act!

And the next time I mention McLaren, my homegirl McLaren'sAngel may not be too far away. She's cute and lovable on GTPlanet. Fear not of her.

The McLaren F1 needs some GT4 love, baby. I can imagine that if GT4 can't get any McLarens that raced in the JGTC, they can make one hell of an LM car. I mean, I don't care if that LM Edition has a Gran Turismo sponsorship or even a GTPlanet.net sponsorship. The JGTC variant kind of looks better, but lacks power because it has those restrictors. Anyhow, would be nice to have them. They definitely have a home in GT4 if you ask me. Only thing is that I want to race New York and Amalfi and Hong Kong with this bad boy. Question is... will we get it? Or do we have to do attend church every Sunday morning and pray that GT4 will include McLaren?

Just remember. We're GT nuts. Welcome to the family. :)

I have a question.

The F1 GTR FINA is in Prologue right? How does it stack up? I remember hearing the TS020 isn't a selectable car, which may hurt the comparison a bit, but are we going to be able to take down the 787B, TS020 and R390 with an F1 GTR?

Boy was that acronym overload...

Yes you will be able to, in real life the F1 GTR in GT1 trim is competitive to the GT-One and R390 but I don't know how the lap times compare exactley. The FINA F1 GTR in GT4 is 600+ Bhp from what I know of the car.

I read on the McLaren site that the BHP was somewhere in the 600 ballpark, and I know the F1 did very well at Le Mans and simlarly prestigious races, I just don't remember a direct competition with the TS020, cars like that were a few years after it's time really. I'd much rather race the McLaren though.

The F1 raced at LEMAns in 1997 when both the R390 and the TS020 were racing also. I don't know how well it did that race though.
