....just to clear it up (so that nobody gets sth wrong!): :)
That is the Mc Laren F1 GTR(SHORTTAIL)---a very nice racecar:)

That is the Mc Laren F1---the road version of the SHORTTAIL

...that´s the F1 LM---a special road version of THE SHORTTAIL(With rear wing which was nearly the same as the one used by the RACE Car!!:))
u can just call this car a racecar without RACEOUTFIT(painting,advertsiments,number,...)and without the RACE-SETUP(suspension,gearbox,tires,downforce,...)so it IS the car which ran at Le Mans---just for the very rich enthusiasts---only without the things i told above!!!

this is theMc Laren F1 GTR (LONGTAIL)---which we know from GT4P!

...and that´s the road version of it, the Mc Laren F1 GT---without rear wing(but i don´t know if there´s any WITH WING...)
the LONGTAIL hasn´t ANY "Special Version-Road Car" as the SHORTTAIL has but it´s just the wing which would it make a special version!!!

....i would love to have the first two and the last car(F1 GTR(ST),F1,F1 GT)in GT4...
....and that´s not just a dream look at NFS-HP2:there was the F1 AND the F1 LM and u could choose some colors for them like silver, black, red, orange and blue!!!
...so PD could get the license for the F1 and the F1 GTR(ShortTail)too i hope so at least.....

Actually, the normal F1 was NOT the road version of the GTR short tail, the GTR short tail was based on the F1 not the other way round. And GT-One lover your not getting this whole issue with licensing are you, the F1 and F1 LM can appear in NFS, but not GT depending on the licensing.

...but some said EA won´t have the licenses for Ferrari,Lamborghini,Mc laren and other manufactures soon(i think that´s why Hot pursiut2 isn´t sold ANY MORE!)...
....so PD perhaps could get the licenses then?........just think lambo and ferrari and
mc laren.......oohhh that would be sooo nice :sly: :)!!!!

Hot pursuit is still sold, also the licenses allow the cars to be in that game no matter if they run out, the game can still be sold as long as the cars were included when the license was valid. I know the Ferrari and Porsche licenses are supposed to be up in November which could mean them being in GT4, however there is nothing thats pointed to McLaren being up at the same time.

The F1 LM's were not GTR's made road legal, they were totally new cars. There inspiration was the F1 GTR of course. As well as being built as a tribute to the Le Mans winning car, it was also used to homologate new bodywork parts, such as the wider front wheel arches.

Recently however at least one, possibly more, F1 GTR race cars have been made road legal. One of the 1996 FINA short tail cars is now a road car.

Actually, the F1 LMs are built off the shorttails. The outer body design is the same as the F1 GTR shorttail for a "certain" reason.

The LMs weren't even going to be built of it hadn't been for a good race. The Shorttails outer body was the same as the F1 LM.

And the GT car. Already explained. McLaren, for some reason, has not and supposedly will not give out a license to use the GT. Hince, why we haven't seen it any racing game.

Did the longtail or the shorttail perform better in real world racing? I would think the longtail but I am not sure.

The longtail's were faster and more stable at speed. They continued racing after the short tail GTR's retired.

Couldn't have said it any better. The longtails just had some new stuff like aero. gearbox, and a few other stuff, but yeah, made it go faster.

I know McLaren F1 fans will have something to cheer about looking at that F1 GT, or whatever it's called. Maybe it's just me, but do you sense that the car is longer (I'm talking about the F1 GT, the final three photos in GT-One Lover's recent post) than its street version? The wing kind of seems like a drag racing-style wing. For those of you who played Gran Turismo 1 and seen the Mazda RX-7 LM Race Car, note how the wing seems to be longer than taller, perhaps made for speed than rear-end downforce. Anyhow, the wing is there, it's just hard to make out in ways.

Maybe I'll have to look for a die-cast, 1-25 model of that F1 GT. That's a sick looking ride. (hand gestures) Totally sick, man!

Yes, it is a very sweet ride of which 2 are made (not counting a prototype). For some reason, there is just something about this car McLaren refuses to let out.
I haven't seen it games, on TV, not even a model car, and not alot of info on it.
It seems there are some "very well kept" secrets on this car.

Wow... I'll have to learn more about this special McLaren F1. If it makes it into GT4, can you imagine how many McLaren F1 fans will want to win this car in a race, even if they have to get all Gold in the License Tests?

The McLaren F1 is basically being told "Welcome to the Party!" That black McLaren on the previous page is more like... a special guest. It's like bringing Houston's own Hilary Duff (or "Lizzie McGuire for you Disney fans) or also one of Houston's own, Beyonce Knowles to sing at your school. Which you'd take from my hometown is your call. Anyhow, enough about girls (for now). Carry on the McLaren talk.

I'm surprised this thread has gone on as long as it has ya know. What seemed like a real throwaway thread it sure has turned into something mindblowing.

Well not mindblowing in the least... But... Ah whatever.

dont forget that Mercedes wanna buy McLaren too!.

Their Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren should be in GT4 if you ask me!.

i had my hopes up for a moment when i thought it was in gt4-p but noo!!!!, it was a SL55 AMG. i love that slr McLaren and i agree, it should be in the game

...yeah the SL55 AMG--a nice monster!!!...but the only wrong thing in GTC and GT4P is that the SL55 has a "Black line" at the rear lights in REALITY but not IN GT yet!!!...the SL55 AMG has in GT the same rear lights as the "Normal" SL has and that´s not right---ok u think perhaps i´m tooooOOO serious but this is a perfectionistics`game and EVERYTHING should be as in reality (at least at the cars!)

just look at the GT pic and the real pic......heh?is it the same???....there is ONE rear light in GT for TWO cars namely the SL and SL55 but the SL55 has the black stripes at the rear lights to look a little bit more BAD so i think this detail should be corrected.....
that´s the real car

and here´s the GT version of the SL55.....
gt4_prologue_42_big.jpg

oooh...what a crap!!!.hope PD changed it or at least changes it ....

hopefully, one of the shortails makes their way into the game. Either the LM or the stock version.

This has been discussed. The road version will not make it. The short tail most likely isn't in either.

Welcome to GTP!

Based on what you said... uh, d00m (I CANNOT make out your SN very well), this thread is kind of a throwaway. But it is a discussion on McLaren in GT4. The "Welcome to the Party..." is meaning "yes, it's a welcome addition." The "...or Uninvited" relates to it NOT being in the game. People who really know McLaren probably want more of McLaren. So in a way, the F1 is the most notable of the modern era. But others may know about McLaren's Indy and F1's efforts. I think Kart Racer came up with something on McLaren in Can-Am. And surely enough, it was in. The Formula One McLaren-Mercedes is very uinlikely to make it in unless PD decides to come up with a fantasy scheme mimicking the McLaren-Mercedes of today. Or what about the ones Mika Hakkinen raced to defeat Michael Schumacher in the 1990s?

So this topic is still fair game. And I'm still buzzing about that black F1 GT. In a way, that McLaren F1 GT looks more like a GTP than a GT1. And at the rear, it looks like at least one foot has been added to the rear. In other words, the car is longer on the sides compared to the street car version. I guess with that hood scoop, it's also taller than the street car version. That SL55 AMG is pretty nice. With the McLaren-Mercedes effort, that SLR is pure beauty. The only surprising thing about it is that it has a V8, but can still make up to 600 horsepower (and you thought Americans know V8s best!). I been thinking all along that the SLR (which used to be Pimp Racer's avatar) had a V12. I'd love to race the SLR around tracks. And if PD is creative, perhaps we may get a Race Car model out of it. Because let's face it. It's already a front-drive Formula One car embodied into an angellic luxury sports exotic. Words fail me in describing it correctly. Perhaps it's the next most impressive creation from McLaren since the F1.

The thing that suprises me about it is that mercedes put an auto in a supercar! But I don't think they had any manuals that could handle the torque. It still would be an amazing addition.

I was wondering if they were ever gonna race the SLR......like in a GT class!......How amazing would it look in racing livery!! racing along side the Porsche's and the Ferrari's......

It would be like the DB9 Race car concept!! super cool! I wonder if that will be in GT4 as well as the SLR!

p.s.......I know some think that the SLR's bonnet is to long but I reacon that it makes it unique!

Will all these people with steering wheels be able to shift gears because of the automatic gearbox, if it appears in the game?

Do you mean the ones with the new DFP cause it has a shift knob on the right?

Well, in automatic, you're not going to. There has only been 1 game where I can chane my transmission in between auto, and manuel during the game.
And that was Sports Car GT for the PC which is a very fun game. I like to switch drivers, and then just watch a practice.

But like an old friend at a Saturn dealer told me.

"If you can drive a stick, you can drive anything."

Yes, you can do the gears manually in automaic cars in GT, so if the SLR is in GT4 you will be able to use manual gears for that car.

Do I welcome the addition of the McLaren F1 in Gran Turismo 4?

Absolutely!

Why wouldn't I welcome the greatest car in the world to race at the most demanding circuit (The 22.8 km Nordschiefe Nurburgring) in the best driving sim.

p.s

I reckon if GT4 ever gets the licence to have Porsches - apart from the various 911 models, it MUST include the legendary Porsche 956.

I'm game for any F1 that appears in the game, there is no real F1 uninvited, they're not like the multitude of Japanese cars, but to N.J., why did you quote that huge post??? I don't understand you're logic there!!! :)

Hmmm, £600,000+. I wonder why there weren't many buyers. That's provate jet money - and I think I'd prefer a plane to a car. No offense, people!

Youd be lucky to get a chopper for 600,000 grand, i think youll find private jest cost MILLIONS.

The 1997 spec F1 GTR is much slower (over a lap) than the Toyota GT-ONE.

At Le Mans the GT-ONE did a 3.29 in 1999 were as the F1 GTR did a 3.45 in 1997.

To give you an idea of how far the GT cars have progressed, the Works Corvette C5-R managed a 3.49 at the recent test day despite being in GTS spec (1100kg, 620BHP) as opposed to the F1 GTR which was in GT1 spec (900KG, 650BHP).

The new GTS spec Maserati MC12, Lamborghini R-GT and Prodrive Aston Martin DB9 should be nudging the 3.45 mark in 2005.

The orignal short tail F1 GTR lapped around the 3.50-3.55 mark at Le Mans.

Some people are obsessed with top speed, but that is useless on the track if the chassis/aero package is not up to scratch.

For example the road going Mercedes CLK-GTR would be significantly quicker around a track than the original F1 road car despite having a much slower top speed.

(I know this might be bringing up a subject talked about a long time ago but I thought people may find this information interesting...)

The legendary Porsche 956 from 1983 could do a 6:11 around the old Nordschliefe Nurburgring and -in reference to above about Le mans- the 956 could do 3:16...246mph down the Mulsanne Straight!

p.s

For anyone who doesn't own the 'IN CAR 956' DVD, I suggest who do yourself a favour and pick up a copy :)
