Here's your original statement.
mercedes dont need mclaren to help make this car. I want to know how exactly mclaren contributed to the SLR cause I dont see it. They should just buy brabus or get AMG to do the work. The clk-dtm sure turned out well.

I just told you how through this whole thread.

The whole deal is that Mercedes-Benz came up with the idea. It was McLaren who ended up designing it and building it. Mercedes though, wanted luxury equipment, but like said in this thread, was not the original goal.

Then, you changed your story through the thread claiming something else, missing the point.

Goddamn your stupid. Did you even attend school?
I think this statement fits you quite well.

And Mclaren had nothing to do with the SLR till mercedes commisioned them so.

That's like saying "the student had nothing to do with the book report until the teacher assigned it". Why would McLaren be interested in what Mercedes is doing until MB asked for their assistance? They're busy enough running F1 and a dozen other things.

There is no traditional mclaren dna in the car so whats the point other than the badge. McLaren make race cars, not hopped up super luxury tourers.

Thus the publicized clashes between Mercedes and McLaren....

Like I said they should have just got AMG to make it.

But what would have been the point of that? Mercedes called upon McLaren to bring in experience & ideas that AMG couldn't handle. They're not a car design branch; they tune existing chassis & drivetrains. This fact is proven in every single AMG car since the early 1990's. If AMG did this solo, the best you could have hoped for is a SL55 "uber". The aerodynamic aids, suspension, chassis design...all that would be nothing like it is on the SLR.
