Does anyone know how hard will it be to make a memory card reader for your PC? What format does the playstation save the replays in?

Buy and X-Port or Sharkport etc. that connects to your PC via a USB cable. You then can tranfer PS2 gamesaves onto your pc in .xps files and vice-versa.

A lot of third-party programs support .xps files such as MK's GT3gEDIT and PS2 Save Builder v0.8x etc.

No I don't think so. But you could ask someone in advance to record them for you. If you sent them the .xps file, they can put it on their memory card and use their video capture cards to record the replay and make it into a video (mpeg, avi, wmv) and then send the video back to you.

You can't watch replay files on your pc.
... because the file of the replay only contains some stats on how the car was driven. The actual car- and track graphics, sounds, the physics engine and whatever are on the PS2 only.
You can save replay files on your PC, share and trade them with others, but you can't watch them.

So, what will I need to get if I want to transfer a replay to my PC and watch it?

Jeramy

A video capture card for your PC and various cables to connect your video/audio out on your TV through the card to your PC then you "record" your saved laps into a video editing app then save a .MPG or some such thing.

The replay files on you PS2 are just data files, not movie files.

So, What you are saying is: If I have X-Port or Sharkport and the other party has it also, I can send that person my replay and or saves and he can load them onto his card and watch them on his PS2? Right?

Exactly. I've done that with GT3 replays and I'm sure its the same with GT4.

They would have to have the same region PS2 that you have.

Exactly!

Why did you open a second thread on this subject by the way?

Didn't know there was a forum for what I was asking. Sorry about that. . . .

Thanks for the help peeps. . . by the way, which one do most people have? X-Port or Sharkport? If one has the other, can they still share?

Sharkport and Xport are the same thing with a different name. They are identical otherwise.

As gnome said, you can only use replays from people in the same region as yourself. NTSC(US), NTSC(J) or PAL(Europe and Aus/NZ).

You should also consider getting a MaxDrive instead of a X-Port. It's a USB device with a software part running on the PS2 and the other part running on the PC. You plug the USB stick into the PS2, run the software and copy your data from the memcard over to the USB stick. Then you pull it out, plug it into your PCs USB port, run the software and copy the data.

This method is practical when your PS2 is too far away from your PC for a direct connection like X-Port uses it. And there's a tool to convert X-Port data to MaxDrive data and vice versa, so you can still share replays with your X-Port buddies.

You should be able to get a MaxDrive in every larger store that has PS2 stuff. The convertor software is downloadable from the internet, search this forum or google, then you should find it.
