Hello,

I am a bit tired now, of seeing only capital letters and sentences like "In my car" in the "Location"-section of the member profiles.
It would be a great help to know where a member actually lives, if the member for example wonders what car to buy. I must then assume he is from the United States, but he could very well be from United Kingdom or inner Mongolia.

As I said, it would be nice to see more places, instead of "I'M YOUR MOTHER DOOD" or something like that. For those "creative" sentences you've got a signature, the location field is for your location.

This is just a question, if not people could at least consider to actually show their location instead of some random words with no meaning. In addition, it is no surprise when I see the members with these sentences are usually under 18, it just seems a bit unmature the whole thing.

What perhaps would be nice was to have city, state and country, for example Anaheim, CA, USA or Roa, Oslo, Norway. Of course, these are just guidelines, if a person wants to write just CA or MD, London or West Sussex, he of course can, as I would understand where this was. However, I don't for example believe he is in my ass or I wouldn't understand where at 9.000 RPMs is in the world.

So please all members, consider to write your location properly, it would certainly help me, and I am sure other members beside me are also a bit irritated over the trend of writing random sentences in the location area.

I totally agree, I'd like to see more detailed/accurate descriptions... 👍

You don't need to be Sherlock H to work out where most people live from the posts they make.
Although sometimes you do ;)

Perhaps it could be a required 'profile field' - If you really want to know where someone lives, its not too much trouble to click on their username.

I'd like there to be a field for people's location that must be filled in with at least a country.

Someone who posts with dodgy spelling and grammar is less likely to get a slap, if we know that they are using English as a foreign language, so its good to know where they are from.

👍 I agree. I suggest making the "location" field a drop-down list, rather than a free-range text box. :)

I used to have an accurate location description, but I'm not proud of the country I live in, and the results of a couple of referendums in this year's election reminded me of the fact that a large portion of my state consists of rural, redneck communities. So I changed it.

I guess I wouldn't mind putting the state back in, so I'll add that.

With this whole thing, I guess I'm indifferent to it. On one hand, having dumb things in the Location part like "IN UR MAMA" and other random 🤬 is annoying and dumb. On the other hand, we (at least I) know where most of these members are, and I've seen some witty lines in it.

:indiff:

As witty as some of the cap-crazy 'AOLer' lines may seem, surely all they do is degrade the perceived quality of GTP members. If 'IBTL' comments were forbidden (which they were, rightly so!👍), then why should immature, poor quality fads like these remain above the line?

i agree with this, some people just completely ignore the fact that it's where you live, such as something continuing from your user title

Most of the time you can work out what country a member is from by what they say, or sometimes they will tell you..... but yeah you should just be putting your location under location!

To be honest it doesnt really bother me that much....

I think it's a good idea to show where a person is, and that's why I changed my location recently. My state's name just happens to fit with the whole christmas theme, too, so I threw it in there to keep some of the "funny".

Country flags are going to be displayed alongside the "Location" field in GTP9, which hopefully will encourage more accurate entries. I am very glad to see that this issue was brought up by someone in the community - it shows you guys do care about how others perceive our site!

I assume this will this be a selectable flag, with the location box remaining as free input?

I've always used "OREGON", which is the state I live in, inside the U.S.

Jordan: I'm a Japanese citizen living in the States. Which flag do I use? :p

And Wolfe, at least you don't live in China or Russia. It could be a lot worse, you know. :sly:
