how do i get a different member status.is it like the premium i see sometimes?

You need a certain amount of posts before hand though.

Member Titles (text under your username in posts)
Your member title will automatically change as you continue to post more in the forums. However, once you have made 500 posts and have been a registered member for at least 90 days, you will be able to set your title to whatever you like in your profile options. You can find the number of posts that you have by looking at your Member Profile, which is accessible by clicking on your username beside any of your posts.

This should make things clear.

I assume you were originally asking about the custom user title by your username, for instance mine is "..." other may be "Bronze Member" etc.

As for premium, see this page:

Now if you clicked the area around my username you may have seen an option for "Give GTPremium", this will gift that user premium membership after you pay for it via PayPal.

Screwed in the sense that you can't enjoy the advantages of Premium membership without someone gifting it to you, but once you have 500 posts you can change your little user title caption (Not your username however, that does require premium).
