I saw this movie last night. Many good funny points, but far too much slapstick humor.
Where to start...
The acrobatic scenes were done horribly. Riptorn flipping over the evil chick, then launching into a kung-fu high kicking assault was just miserable. Tommy Lee Jones flip out of the elevator, into the MIB headquarters was incredibly poor Editing. 405 The Movie had better digital editing and was done as a goofball project. The aliens were done exquisitely. Very nice.
Tommy Lee Jones was Mr. Bada$$ in the first movie. Cool Calm collected. This movie, he acts like he's upset that he's even doing the film. At the start of the film, Will smith is smooth, collected, and on top of things. TLJ shows up, and Will Smith becomes the idiot son again. This movie had incredible potential, with the portrayal of two very learned, smooth indiviuals working towards an end. Nope, Laurel and Hardy reappear.
It moved away from showing the MIB as a universe wide force to be feared, to a bunch of three stooges in good suits. The "love angle" between Will smith and the "Light" was poorly used, never amounting to more than a 5 minute tirade in hopes of appealing to the female date that gets dragged to this flick.
Did I hate the movie? No. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Would I go see it again? Most certainly not. Sonnenfeld missed a great opportunity to build this franchise into a great trilogy.
This movie was a nose dive. Go see it at the cheap seats theatre.
