I still dislike that MB AMG had the audacity to call that thing a 4-door AMG GT. It's clearly a completely different platform and basically a E63 with different styling.
Its also going to be full battery electric rather than PHEV.

The entry-level GT 43 AMG has been unveiled, which seems to be Mercedes' answer to the 992 Carrera and Carrera S. This trim features smaller front fenders, a different front bumper, a more toned-down grille, and no spoiler. Interestingly, it's powered by a 2.0L mild-hybrid I4, which produces 415hp and allows for a 0-60 time of 4.6s. Will be priced in the US just shy of $137,000.

Let's find out once and for all if the car has gotten better.

While I'd rather have the new Mercedes than the BMW or Audi, I'd rather have the Porsche than the new Mercedes. Mercedes has basically tried to make a Porsche 911 here, and while the exterior is pretty, the interior is gaudy and awful, and the packaging in general is still less clever than the Porsche.

But I'd also rather have the old Mercedes than the new Mercedes, precisely because it is what it is, a Viper-like battleship of a sports car.

But I'd also rather have an actual Viper than a Viper-like Mercedes, because I'm a man and I take my punishment as it comes.

You could probably get an older GT and a Viper for less money combined than what the MSRP of a new GT63s is.

Based on this teaser, it's very likely that the AMG GT 4-door will be revealed in June.

I see they got creative with the rear end for aerodynamics. None of the road cars have that ducktail and it's a pretty massive style and aerodynamic deviation from the road car. I'd expect that they release a high-performance version with that ducktail to comply with the rules. Note that the 911 GT3 does have the same ducktail spoiler as the GT3 R, although it's nowhere near to the degree as this Benz where they've just completely redesigned the rear end altogether.

It illustrates that the road car has terrible downforce characteristics by nature which is why it's got the pop-up spoiler, a feature that - correct me if I'm wrong - only the McLaren road car has in the category. Various 911s do but the GT3 and GT2 do not.

Maybe we'll see a road-going model with a ducktail if Mercedes-AMG were to release some sort of "AMG GT63 Black Series" - or would a "Black Series" model be reserved more so for the end of the GT63's lifetime?

Black Series models tend to happen towards the end of the lifecycle, but Merc tends to reserve the name for cars they want to make really special and exclusive. Hence why there's only been 6 Black Series models in its history

I'm admittedly more interested in the newer AMG GT3, myself. (It's the one on the left, with the yellow accents.) I don't doubt that Maro Engel will get behind the wheel of one at some point.

EDIT: It's also interesting how similar both the AMG GT3 and the Black Series look to each other. I think that AMG is looking to further link this particular Black Series to the racecar, the same way Porsche does with the 911 GT3 RS.

They do that because it's required for GT3 series homologation. The GT Black Series has completely different rear bodywork than the normal GT for aerodynamic reasons, thus why Merc is homologating the Black Series instead of the lower spec models. Looks to me like the road car is going straight to the "GT3 RS" or "Mustang GTD" level of similarity to the race car.

Gives new meaning to a flying brick. 2.5 tons!

I honestly can't stop staring at it. Can't believe I nearly don't mind it. The rear remind of like an old Maverick or Saab Sonnet like with the black rear. Looks familiar. Cougar? Puma? Something with those three tailights lights.

Anyway, not liking the double spokes on the steering wheel. Like the reviewer says lots of screen space. Geez.

Guess I'm more impressed with the tyre technology for these cars. All this performance on such a heavy car. Amazing tyre engineering.

Even giving it a day to grow on me has done no good, that may be one of the worst looking cars I've ever seen.

Not going to lose that one in a car park are you? Make sure no ones looking when you get in it though.

First impression is the front looks a bit confused? Like it looks like a big car has donned the face of a small one for some reason. The rear is pretty cool though, not gonna lie.
Interior is... modern car I guess? Nothing amazing but nothing really out of the ordinary either. Can't say I'm a fan of the oversized Mercedes logo they've donned on the steering wheel for the past few cars, reminds me far too much of one of these:

The fake engine noise thing sounds interesting, looks like they're going the Hyundai route. Just depends then on how good those fake sounds are or whether it'll sound like Gran Turismo 5 has returned after 16 years
Overall... it's alright. One thing I've started to wonder with Mercedes' latest design language and also BMW's of this decade, not to mention stuff like the latest Nissan Juke and the Tesla Cybertruck is whether they design cars to be... uh... interesting looking on purpose - like safety regulations and limitations with EV platforms etc. don't stipulate the cars have to look like that, yet some do anyway in order to attract attention to the car, regardless if it's good or bad attention. In other words, if you're openly hating the car design, you're unintentionally doing exactly what they want you to do, which is to bring attention to it. Mind you, this is just an idea I've come up with of late - it could just as easily be a wacky conspiracy theory - but I guess it could be worth some food for thought.
