I understand why they've got the wing mounted like that, but why not just extend the nose that much further to have a better mounting area for the wing?

This look like a Mc-Laren Mercedes too much in my opinion.

Because then it wouldnt work as it should since it's supposed to gather air from the ground from what I understood reading the article on autosport : http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/122969
