The back’s still a tad ungainly, but overall it’s nice-looking car.

Oh, interesting.

The back's not really doing it for me right now, but not a bad one over all.
I'll be interested to see the pricing.

Aw, they lost the part vertical glass panel and spoiler design. I used to think that was cute.

I wanted to see if an AMG43 version would make it. :D

Not bad at all. I also liked the vertical glass/spoiler thing. that was neat.

EDIT: Convertible!? I hope so!! Maybe it won't be goofy looking.

well...yeah, it looks good, and would be Mercedes' best choicce for a WRC car...(Should they, god forbid, decide to participate...)

But...another Mercedes? Why not just put it into the C-Class range? The way things are going, EVERY car will have a different model designation, Wagons, Cabrios, etc...

I'll take a regular C, thank you. That rear looks pretty awkward from what I can tell. Maybe a different angle would help.

I think it would be more orderly to just have the C range, E range, S range and maybe something for sports cars and maybe have two or three different letter combinations they can tack on there, more like what BMW does.

Outside of the rather odd back end (which was on the previous C-coupe), its a pretty nice car. I just wish they'd take the Audi/BMW approach and take the C-class, only fit it with two doors.

The taillight just looks terrible. But still, this is definitely not "ugly" in any way, but the new styling of Mercs needs some getting use to (as well as the Subarus....) But still, I take the W203 Sportcoupe over this any time. :D

Everything but the rear is found on the regular C class (exterior wise). To me it just seems that you shouldn't like the CLC unless you have some fetish over the rear.

Damn, that is an ugly, cheap looking backend. Merc's doing a bangup job of making their current range look like Korean interpretations of what Mercedes should be.

And I'm sure the cabrio will have all the stylistic grace of the A3 cabrio...

Ugly butt +

the CLC relies on a lightly reworked version of its predecessor's rear-wheel-drive underpinnings, which date back to 2001
= Epic Fail 👎 in my book.

If I wanted seven year old M-B technology I would buy a Ssangyong Chairman or better yet a seven year old M-B

The Chairman is technically, twenty-three to 13 years old. Unless they downgraded to a licensed W210 copy.. :p

I think it's better looking than the previous Coupes, but it's on a seven year old platform. Given that M-B had abolished "cost no object" engineering in the early 90s, seven years is way long in the tooth. Why not do a 2 door version of the sedan? That would look like sex and sell decently.

Uh, everyone complaining about the carryover chassis does realize they did the same thing with the regular C-Class, right? It was just a "refreshed" version, they deemed it too costly to create a completely new one.

The difference is that this is the old C-class coupe with a new nose, and that the C-Class was completely redesigned.

They seemed to put too aggressive a stance into too small a car... that rear end looks devastatingly familiar, and the pricing should be interesting, as Danachronism says.

I somewhat expected a sports version of a current model.

Edit: The rear looks like a Ford Zephyr!

the w204 is most definitely more than a reworked 203, that would be like calling the latest corvette C5.5 and the latest 911 the 996.5

this coupe however is just a holdover until they can create a car based on the 204, which hopefully will be a true coupe unlike these rather silly hatchbacks.

actually that was the sense I meant to convey, though some don't consider them full redesigns they are officially next generation models
The problem with your analogy is that the C-class was a far greater redesign than the 997 (in particular) and the C6 (in general) were based on differences in design philosophy. Meaning everyone will always view the C6 as the C5.5 (hell, I do) and the 997 as the 996+1.
Based on actual changes they are complete redesigns, but no one will ever view them as such because the differences between them and the prior generation (993 to 996, C4 to C5) were so much greater. I feel the C-Class redesign was more of a C4-C5 than a C5-C6.

You miss my point. People look at the old C-class as a mediocre small luxury car, outclassed by just about all of its competitors.
The new C-class is viewed by some as the new leader of the segment.
While the "203-204 is similar to the C5-C6" note is accurate, it does a disservice to the 204 because of how much better that the car is than its predecessor; to which a C4-C5 comparison would be more practical regardless of if it is technically inaccurate.

I am guessing the old C-coupe didn't sell well, so they only spend time on restyling it.
