With Mercedes seemingly already a head ever so slightly having fired up their engine a week or so go, via twitter they have giving audio of their V6 turbo engine.

Although a very short video, a very good first impression in my opinion!

So all those simulated sounds that people cried about or the distortion due to them being on a test bench and being filtered through various items, are distant complaints all of a sudden. Why people thought that would be a true sound, even before teams got the chance to mock up full exhaust systems to work with their car, is beyond me. Either way people should have waited because these sound better than the V8s I think.

The name of this thread should probably be changed. The W05 is Mercedes' car. The engine is known as the 'PU106A Hybrid'.

I like the general sound of the engine, but it makes me sad that it isn't revving higher =(
No matter what it doesn't sound as good as the V10s!
But it isn't as bad as I'd feared!

not sure if real

The lettering, the top, and the shadow through the middle. Not saying it definitely isn't a real mockup.

It's not a real mock up, just like the Lotus wasn't nor was the Williams, they were CAD/Catia renderings and this looks to be a shopped image, like the FI. There isn't a shadow through the middle, that's part of the wing structure. Teams are allowed to place a single or two vertical structures in the center as the image shows.

Clearly not real, look at the side pods.

What about them?

Far too small, I think.

They also look like they are with in regulations, there is a thread specifically talking about everything you'd need to know. Also people shouldn't expect this car or any of the cars to be the actual car that appears at Australia, hell these cars probably wont look fully the same after Jerez and going to Bahrain.

With last years car being leaked it wouldn't surprise me if it happens again this year.

Really? I thought they have to be bigger for better cooling and to further improve safety. Those look too small to me, compared with all the other cars revealed so far.

Unless we get a head on image we can't really tell, they look wide enough for the crush panels and the intercooler which is what I think you actually mean.

I mean the side pod opening looks too small, I should've said that. It could just be the angle of the shot, even so, the image looks too messy and unprofessional to me.

Didn't Mercedes or some team say they'll play with the exhaust to improve the sound? Regardless, still doesn't sound nearly as good as the V10s. Hopefully they'll be at least loud. I'll find out in a few weeks.

I kind of figured that is what you meant but if you look at the Ferrari ones, since they have the greatest detail other than McLaren, you'll see those are small. Especially considering how much crash structure is around them and the opening.

Looking now, yeah, you're right.

The whole car looks too small/low compared to the wheels in the render to me, I think if it was an official image leaked the sponsor wouldn't be on the rear wing twice. The headrest also looks rather large.
