Hamilton posts the first lap of 2014.

Not the best video yet,it sounds a bit like a F3 car on steroids, but it sounds...not to bad.

That's just the audio taken from the video the team posted a few days ago with a picture of Lewis Hamilton driving the car.

I call copyright infringement on the uploader!

This car is ****ing beautiful omg I am absolutely in love. Feel like I'm 12 years old again looking at it.

GREAT JOB on looks alone. That front wing even, just looks fantastic! Hopefully this and the Red Bull solutions convince the other teams with hideous noses (especially FI) to change their tunes and adapt to a more presentable shape.

That's me being totally petty though. If they truly can't adapt without seriously compromising the car's balance (which I doubt), then by all means keep the nose the same - otherwise, GO FOR IT.

Best looking car so far by a mile!!(or should i say; by a nose!! :-))

hahah, awesome comment Spy. I agree. To me, this is the best looking car from the last few years, so pretty.

This car looks fantastic. It looks so sleek, yet very complex and there's no denying it has the best looking nose of all the 2014 cars so far.

It needs a bit more black on the engine fin. The whole thing should be black, instead of curving up like that.

I agree, looks like they were taking after RBR's purple, which I used to like, but now hate.

I'm most interested by the horns on the nose, we haven't seen them on any car since all the winglets were banned at the end of 2008

Looks more like a burn stain as it is. The rest of the design makes up for it though.

Wonder if they'll be the only ones with ear fins near the front wheels. They don't look too bad.

The fins are quite a clever little solution that are elegant in their simplicity. Teams like high monocoques because they can get plenty of air under the car, directing it over the splitter and around the floor forward of the sidepods. The low noses limit that airflow. Mercedes' solution to this is like Ferrari's, creating low air pressure over the splitter. I'm guessing those fins are designed to work in tandem with the front suspension geometry to direct air into and around the sidepods. By separating the functions, Mercedes do not have to try and balance the air over the splitter and around the sidepods. Instead, they can optimise each function.

Seems the whole front end came off the Merc down the straight. Marshalls clearing up bits of Merc off the straight and Hamilton into the barriers.

Would have hurt a bit id think. Not much between your feet and whatever your hitting.

I think the evidence is pointing to the front wing falling off on the straight and getting stuck under the front wheels, no steering and half brakes = crash.

I think Lewis should have learnt his lesson from last year and let his teammate do first to test in Jerez. Only fair to take the pleasure pain of driving new car in first test in turns.

Good to see he made it out fine 👍 which is the most important thing, must be quite scary if failure was at high speed especially in a new car.

Well someone has to do it. F1 is dangerous and it's their job. I don't blame a driver for taking the risk to test a new car.

Is it just me, or do the sidepod openings look a bit smaller than most everyone else's?

Probably wants a leg up on Nico by having a go first.

Not really, Ferrari's side pods are looking around the same size and red bull seem to have small side pods and the tightest package of them all. Everyone seems to be questioning the cooling of the big teams, but remember they may not need as much ventilation as we think. It's winter time in Jerez it gets cold enough in the day to make the system more effective than many places during the year.

The ventilation may change track to track, so here it isn't that much, but come to India or Austin or something and it may be much more do to low elevation and heat.
