Mercedes W08 F1 undrivable on controller?

Can someone tell me why the W08 is having such a hard time at hairpins?
Those cars depend on downforce for most of its grip, low speed means little downforce. You have to take it easy with steering input. Also try not to go below 3rd gear.

Or it's a glitch

In spite of the supposedly improved handling of Formula cars on the Dualshock 4, the W08 seems to have the exact same problem as the other Formula cars had pre-update (haven't tested them after), as it will suddenly pivot once the steering lock is too high.

If you're unfamiliar with how steering lock works on the DS4, the angle you put in with your thumbstick doesn't directly relate to the angle of your tires (which is the case with a wheel). Instead, the angle will gradually increase in correlation to the angle of your thumbstick and the speed of your car, meaning it's very hard to grasp the exact amount of steering lock. For the same reason, it's hard to judge how much steering input you can make before the car pivots. It will do this, even at extremely low speeds, which makes it super difficult to attack slower corners.

I can't imagine this car is easy to drive on a wheel, but it's borderline impossible with a controller.
I find it hard to imagine that even the best controller drivers will be competitive with this car.
For the record i'm a low A+ driver so i like to think i know what i'm doing, driving with the DS4.

Heck no it's not undrivable on controller. I've been racing with it since it was released. I drive all cars no assists except ABS, and I've been having fun driving the W08 with RH tires and 0 TCS. That's the only time it produces a challenge, but once you get the hang of the grip, you're good. Try not going under 3rd gear and see how that works for you.

the weird thing for me is the car can take the tight left hairpin at Yamagiwa perfectly , but the Maggiore T1,T2 and banking are nightmare for it ....both are tight corners so why it turns like it should in one case but not the other?

I'm getting on with the recalcitrant one after working on a new default set-up. It's an amazing machine when you have it facing the right direction.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this already but put the thing in automatic, accelerate up to 8th gear on a straight then brake hard until you stop while watching the gear display. It is completely and utterly broken: Initially shifts down to 7th when you start braking, then nothing until you stop where it suddenly shifts into 1st gear! :odd:

Now repeat the same experiment but braking hard down to about 40-50mph. Again, initially shifts down to 7th, it then does nothing until you let off the brake and suddenly shifts through the gears 'til it finds the right one. It is never in the right gear when you want to get back on the power. :boggled:

Whoever programmed that should be immediately sacked and never allowed near a compiler, by threat of death penalty, ever again! In fact, in days gone by, Japanese folk would have been ashamed of the dishonour they had brought upon themselves, their family, and their employer and committed hari-kari!

Need lots patience and practice to learn and understand how to drive the W08, and what it can/can't do. But once understood, it is a blast to drive this thing at the limit

Professional League Mercedes AMG F1 W08 Grand Prix Race 3 Suzuka
- wheel/pedals
- ABS=On
- All other aids off
- Manual transmission
- RM tyres
- Default car settings
- No power/weight upgrades

Really satisfying car to drive with. I put TCS down to 3 now (still with added weight) and working on getting it down to 2. It's really about feathering the throttle out of hairpin turns, and holding the brake a little more. Something not quite right with gear shifting though.
