This is mainly an interest check to start; I personally have never organized one of these before.

Anywho, what dates would interested parties be open, and whereabouts would this be held?

I'm down, not really down for lugging my equipment somewhere though to have a Gran Turismo party though.

You are on the left side of the state and so is YSSMAN and Philly. So it'd probably be best to go over there somewhere. I'm fine for driving.

I had guessed Battle Creek as a possible, as it's kind of in the middle between me, Philly, and YSSMAN. We'll see what they have for suggestions.

It'll have to be either a Saturday evening or a Sunday for me though.

The one time I ever look at what's going on in this sub-forum and people are talking about Michigan. Sweet.

Perhaps we should notify other people from the area of this idea via PM or something? It was pretty unlikely that I stumbled upon this...

As for me, I think that would be fun. However, I don't have a car on campus at Hope and the closest person is Brad, who is 30-45 minutes away. But if we could work something out, I'd be down fo sho. But I should be getting a car sometime in the near future, after I get my GPA up a bit. So if I get a B+ average this semester, I should be picking something up over Christmas break. That would make things easier if this meeting happened to fall in 2010 sometime.

Also, what about the other Michigan members? I know there are a few of us on here. And possibly Eric. and Keef? They're both close-ish.

That would probably be a good idea; I know I don't look here very often either.

In a way, I was hoping we could get it sooner than that (before the snow hits), but I can wait until spring too. That one can go either way.

The more, the merrier, I say. :)

Also, the getting a car thing is still an if, so there is still a chance that I'll be carless next semester as well. Especially considering that I have to do pretty well in some difficult courses.

Ooh... Valid point there.

In that case... weekend in October/early November good for everyone? I'll send YSSMAN, Eric., and Keef a PM noting them of this shortly, then we can really get things rolling.

Any response from anyone? I'm still good with pretty much any weekend as I am lame and don't do anything.

Im a Michigan Member, AND i have a car but the whole long distance drives are a no go for me, my car barely runs as is and im always busy. im good Saturday evenings and Sundays

Eh? What's going on in here. Like Joey, I never have any plans. And I'm 21 now, sooooo.

Are you guys going to actually play GTP or just meet up somewhere and shoot the spit?

I'm guessing just meet up somewhere and shoot the spit, but we might be able to get a GT game going.

I'm really good on not playing GT4 or whatever, I don't want to drag my AV crap somewhere.

Probably too much of a stretch for me, especially when school is in session...but now that I think of it I actually only have class on mondays and wednesdays. Need computer access on the friday though for online tests. I might be able to do something, though I'd kinda prefer to not drive for several hours to just go play video games (I don't even play GT anymore). I think Spring might be better anyhow. I'll see what I can do when/if this progresses any. PM me if you want, I hardly ever wander to this side of the site so you might have to get my attention that way.

I'm already planning on going to the Detroit show this January, and I'm super pissed about not making it to 2009's, no matter how much it sucked. So it's almost certain I'll be in detroit one of those two Saturdays. I've never been to Chicago and I don't want to chance it since I have the perfect scheme for Detroit figured out.

Let me know if you guys do decide to try for a GT4 LAN hookup - you should really - it's a lot of fun!!!
I can offer as much advice as you'll ever need about how to do this, what equipment you'll need, how to plug it all in and get it running with the GT4 network settings addresses and problematic things like mem-card network setting issues that can prevent connection, along with pre-prepared gamesaves or race lineups that've been done over at the SFGTPs.
I'm assuming that one of you has a MAX Drive though...
Failing that a mem-card mailed to me well in advance would be able to be cloned and returned to you before the event for copying on the day.

@ JoeyD: You don't need to take your entire AV setup. As long as you can transport a PS2, DS2 or wheel, mem-card, headphones, copy of GT4, network cable and a small TV or monitor you should be fine. Nothing's worse than trying to cram a lot of setups into a small space when someone wants to come along with a 46" TV & 5.1 setup. A 19" monitor & headphones works just fine!!

I'd suggest a size limit of no bigger than 32" for TVs for spatial logistics reasons, and it's no big deal if someone has a small TV as you should all try to race in different positions from time to time anyway.

Poll is up for dates to meet.

(Holy crap... epic poll is epic.)

Auto show? It's going to suck this year you know that right? If you go on a day that I'm free I wouldn't mind meeting up. I go every year whether is sucks or not but I only live a stone's throw from Detroit.

True enough. Another problem is I haven't played GT4 in years so I probably wouldn't know what to even do .

===

For the meet up I wouldn't mind just standing around talking about cars or whatever. Maybe do it at a park or something and have a cook out. I think spring time would be better too since the weather is going to get awful here really quick. It's already cold outside and the temps keep dropping. Next thing you know they'll be snow on the ground.

About the only weekend I can't do anything is October 24th and 25th since I'm giving a lecture that weekend to a group of school teachers about archaeology in Oakland County. Past that I'm free or I can make myself free.

I go the the Auto Show every too.

Just wondering, but is anyone going to the Rally America event in Houghton on the 16th and 17th, well actually in the next couple weeks?

If Houghton wasn't at the top of the UP I might make the trek up there. I've thought about doing Snow Drift in January though. Atlanta isn't that far though and it would be fun barring it isn't -30 out.

Yea Houghton is kind of far away but we thought we'd brave the drive. I've done the Sno Drift the last two years and is great fun, the night portion is unbeatable. It gets cold but the people and cars makes it woth it.

I should be up for it, and I'm willing to drive a bit. Three ish hours is good on me, for the most part. Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, etc would all work fine. Perhaps we should call it the Northwest Territory GTP Meet-Up Extravaganza? My main thing is that I'd just need to have a heads up at least two to three weeks ahead of time, and it would probably be better if it is after the holiday shopping season... Which starts, now.

If we could time it for the Detroit or Chicago auto shows, that would be fairly epic. There is a lot to do in either city, plenty of places to go and hold a meeting. Hell, we could gamble our lives away at the MGM Grand. Schweeeet. Or do The Pier in Chicago.

So, in summation, sounds good.

Fair point. Two to three weeks' notice would probably be a good idea, and I think we'll have all winter to get this organized.

Some of us could gamble our lives away at the MGM Grand. Others haven't reached that magical age yet. If I could get to Detroit or Chicago, though, a meetup at a car show would be pretty epic.

To anyone who doesn't come here often and has been here: I suggest you subscribe, that way you're notified when something new pops up. :)

Summer would be best. You sure as heck dont want to meet in the winter in this state. :nervous:
I almost always post my race events during the summer at Grattan raceway. Yssman showed up a couple years ago and I took him on the track with me. Its a free event for passengers and people watching that I attend every year.

Okay, so I'm pretty much booked through this year (assuming we don't want to meet up in the snow in November or December). Next year, I'm headed to Chicago to meet up with a couple friends from home for the auto show and then I'll be spending two weekends either with friends or in Seattle for Spring Break in March. And then I'll be around through May. And I'm guaranteed to have a car here in May, and I'll put a 70% on having one for next semester.
