"A classic that's been with us since the beginning..."

Yay, a new PGR @Terronium-12 :D  (just kidding but i wonder what it actually is).

I cannot see the new Forza being anything other than FH6, the vague statement is a bit odd, but I guess they can't announce FH6 until they have a proper announcement set up for it.

The classic is most likely Halo.

I'm rooting for Forza, because its the only thing that will make GT great again. I looked the other day and FH has 900+ cars, and GT has 400+ and if you don't count fake cars and duplicates and marking nonsense the actual number is far less. Yikes. If Forza got the rights to Pikes Peak we'd have it out in 6 months max. Needless to say if I had a PS5 I'd never look back.

I just hope the next Horizon has a more realistic handling model. H5 just felt alittle too generic. H4 felt more satisfying sweeping around corners at high speeds.

I doubt a new Forza would move PD. They tune out the outside noise and do their own thing

I also hope that Automatic gearshifts will be more efficient than in FH5, sometimes the gears can easily shift (I think) but it keeps over-revving.

There's a simple fact that you and many need to accept at this point (This point going on 28 years now): Nothing Turn 10 does, or anyone for that matter, is gonna change what PD does. It hardly has since the first game and it still hasn't. If anything, PD seems to have leaned even harder into NOT doing what everyone else does as of late.

If logic dictates the next Forza Horizon is coming next year and is taking longer than normal then PG is either doing:

A: a larger scope than any previous Horizon game

Or B: a soft reboot of the franchise like what T10 did with Motorsport

A classic that's been with Microsoft from the beginning? It's so obviously Forza Minesweeper, set in the Korean DMZ.

I was thinking open world Space Cadet Pinball myself.

Or C: they're having some struggles with Fable and resources are being diverted that they didn't plan on using. I personally don't think it's a coincidence that Fable's potentially full year delay lines up with FH5 support ending abruptly and the absence of FH6. If their intention had been to finish Fable early this year then focus on a FH6 launch for the end of the year, one project slipping could well affect the other.

It’s not longer than normal for recent games development. 5 years is a pretty standard baseline. Of Playground's 2 games in development it's Fable that is taking longer than expected.

There’s been a new Horizon game every 2 years except for 4 to 5 which took 3.

So 5 years is actually taking unusually long.

I agree with @pez2k ‘s take that Fable most likely took up all resources at some point and disrupted FH6’s development.

You can tell that Fable was/is in trouble/development hell at least at some point.

As with Gran Turismo, GTA or any long running series, what happened with development on previous gen consoles is irrelevant to how long games currently take to produce.

Bit of a spin tbh

The time between 5 and 6 will have been the longest in franchise history - by a country mile.

There was also this tiny little game called Red Dead Redemption 2 in the middle.
People love to forget that

I hope they have looked to the competition and have significantly improved the next Forza game as a result, the rapid evolution of games always fills me with anticipation.

True. RDR2's script started right after RDR1 in 2010 & wasn't fully drafted until around late 2012. I believe 2013 is when actual development got under way (I know the recording sessions started then), so we're talking around 2.5 years of story/5 years of game development.

VI's story started in 2014, but development could not start until RDR2 was finally released. It's reported early work started in 2018 after said release, but that full production began in 2020 (many like Michael's actor will share that 2020 disrupted the game by around a year, additionally). The development time frame is long, but also seems to be within' Rockstar's operating schedule. The belief it's building heavily upon RDR2's mechanics may be significantly helping it.

For "A classic that's been with us since the beginning...", looking at the release titles, specifically Japan on February 22, 2002, Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams is there, so that's my bet, considering that timed exclusives for PS are ending (Wukong, Final Fantasy), or could be a Halo title. Edit: Yeah, it must be Halo.

As for the next FH game, my wildest bet is a Fortnite type of game in the sense that it would be an ever-evolving world, instead of the current model set in a specific location, with a more advanced Event Lab tool set (and the new Forza engine). And I would favor a reset, because the "superstar" persona and the festival formula are wearing thin at this point.

Or it could be the highly requested Japan location (which IMO would limit the biome selection).

The next Silent Hill is launching September this year. The game Spencer was referring to is pretty obviously Project Gotham Racing Halo, whether that's a remake of Combat Evolved or the new game being made in Unreal 5.

D: They're taking a few months off and are headed to Disneyland with their big pile of Playstation money. Could even be a working holiday in Disneyland Tokyo...

Until I see something about Fable that really impresses me (chicken punting aside), hereafter I'll call it "Feeble", and I really hope there isn't an unfortunate connection between its delays and FH not showing up.
