ultrabeatSony don't seem to have dependability cracked quite yet.
Damn that Microsoft efficiency!
Yeah I've had mine for years and it's not borken once. The way I see it is simply this, there far more PS2's out there than X-Boxes, so theres bound to be more faulty PS2's as wll. What matters is the percentage of units that are faulty, is the percent of PS2's is a lot higher than X-Boxes then thats bad, but I don't have thoes figures.SwiftThat depends on the unit. I know people that have had their PS2 since it was launched and it's fine. And others that have had it replaced a few times. Same with the Xbox. So I guess it just depends.
It's also important to keep your console free of dust. But a lot of people don't get that.![]()
Young_WarriorI regularly vacuum my hoover and to be frank some people treat their games consoles and the game disks like s--- and then wonder why it aint working after a couple of months. One guy I knew was baffled why his metal gear solid wasnt working. Turn the bloody CD over and you see its totalled covered in some kind of grease. I cleaned it off for the dumb arse and it worked and the idiot was like wow.
The British press reports that Sony Computer Entertainment is under such pressure to produce PlayStation 2s that quality control has been over looked. The Sun reported that 2,000 complaints were recorded about faulty PS2s on Christmas day. Problems included disc tray failures, power problems, discs not being read correctly and faulty game controllers.
However, it's unlikely that the Xbox has a widespread hardware issue. Microsoft sold over 1.5 million Xboxen during the holiday season, and a return rate in the hundreds is hardly problematic. The real issue now is one of perception: If the users that did have a problem were treated poorly, it'd be easy to create an impression that the product itself was faulty.
Microsoft says, however, that less than 1 percent of Xboxen produced so far were faulty. And Nintendo reports a similar statistic for its recently released Game Cube.
Sony has recalled over 3.5m power adapters that were sold with the slimline version of the console between August and December 2004. The faulty adapters in question could overheat causing damage or injury. The specific models in question are SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004. People who think they may have one of the faulty adaptors are urged to go to www.ps2ac.com for more information. Sony said that customers should not return the faulty adapters to the place they bought the console.
Sony has received 40 complaints in the U.S. related to the adapters. Over two thirds of the affected consoles were sold in Europe, 960,000 of the units were sold in the US, 210,000 in Asia and 60,000 in Japan. The company has also admitted that it is a possibility that some affected adapters may have been bought after December 2004.

cus it was very varm...it didnt!Good old PS2
I know many got problems with the new ones....
spriteAll systems have bugs, and all will eventually have recalls and such, still dosnt make them bad systems, a friend has had an Xbox since day one and still no problems.
I think that people who hammer the hardware have problems, like my flatmate who used to go into uni at 9 in the morning and leave his ps2 on pause for 6 hours then come home and play till 3 in the morning, and then when it was off it was still on standby, then he wanders why hes gone through 3 since he go it. I was funny to see people who have problems claim its a hardware fault when the constantly bash and bang the stuff about.
I dont have any problems with stuff coz i look after it, things last me ages, in fact i end up being behind the times with things because the stuff i have last so long.![]()
