Mileage after engine rebuild?

I rebuilt the engine on my GT Test Car when it got 4500 miles on it.

After rebuild it still shows the same mileage?

Thats not right, the new rebuilt engine should have 0 miles.

What gives?

That is the milage on the car body itself not the engine.

If you replace the engine in a real car the spedo doesn't change either.

Exactly. The odometer is either mechanical or electronic and neither is tied to the engine itself. Mileage on a real car is related to the body, or at least the instrument cluster (for those shady guys).

Most transmission guys will be able to tell you what they hook up to.

Rebuilding an engine doesn't mean it's a complete replacement also. The engine block might still be the same, so technically still keep the mileage but with restored HP.
