What are some unrealised inventions that would make its inventor a millionaire overnight? Patents that would be used in mass markets and get huge demand.

After brainstorming I arrived at some that follow:

-Cigarette smoke compressor-preserver

:dopey:Why: No more waste of smoke in the air. The smoker blows inside the device as well so you have 0% air pollution. Smoker does not have guilt and can smoke anywhere. The ashes can be thrown away or better be recycled into new cigarretes.

-Self-driving car

:dopey:Why: All but rooky drivers detest city driving. The time commuting can be spend instead watching a movie, surfing the web, reading, or just relaxing listening to music and watching outside. The army has made some progress, but the first company to offer a fail-proof such car is in for the cash.

-Life chamber & parachute for safe plane travel

:dopey:Why: Although plane falls are extremely rare, when they happen are usually deadly. The life chamber would be the unfolding chair around your body in case of danger, forming a life chamber, descending below the plane and eventually unfoling the parachute to land safely on land. It may seem like an unlikely technology right now but once achieved people will wonder how in the past we risked our life like we do.

-GPS parking detector and demand recorder

:dopey:Why: Instead of searching endlessly, fingers crossed, for the rare minute opening, your GPS mounted screen could inform you of free areas. Not only this, but there could be a demand recorder as well. Meaning you see how many other drivers know the spot and are interested in it, and push the demand button if you consider parking there. Of course the first one to call for it is not gonna take it - the first to arrive is! :sly:

-Drilling square holes
:pOh wait that already exists.

That's all I could think of now. What other can you think of? The restrictions I impose to give guidance is:
a) They can be made with current technology
b) Cost is not a restriction

Have fun!

Cigarette smoke compressor-preserver

Why would we want to invent something that WOULD encourage smoking? Even if you could remove part of the pollution, it would be safe to assume that only a certain percentage of people who smoke would ever buy it. That removes pretty much all of the hypothetical advantage since it would only take one smoker to pollute an area.

And it still doesn't make cigarettes any healthier for smokers themselves. :yuck:

But to add an invention of my own, I would appreciate a heated driveway. Not sure if it's been done already, but I would jump at the prospect of now having to shovel snow and ice ever again simply by pressing a button that would activate heating elements within the asphalt.

In Canada, this would save SO much time!

I thought healthy smoking is unrealistic right now (providing cig companies don't cover anything). So I thought of a way of eliminating passive smoking. As a very mild smoker myself, I would like to smoke indoors some times without worrying about the smell.

I suppose for people who smoke in any capacity it'd be better to come up with ways to wean people off cigarettes than to simply mitigate the effects. That's where I'd rather put my invention $$$. :)

The person who could invent an insta-quit machine.... well, THEY'D be doing well!

I agree, but the option to have at all cigarettes is not unethical. Besides people get fat and die from heart but food is generally healthy. I think the best would be harmless like steam smoke and "my" invention.

I don't believe cig. companies kill people, they die themselves. Even strong brands here and there is perfectly safe. The heavy smokers have a problem of discipline.

Self driving cars are already being explored by Google.

And the GPS parking thing is in development as well, they have a system in San Francisco that allows people to search for empty spots on their mobile phones. There is already a company developing from this very idea call Streetline. http://www.streetline.com/

But to add an invention of my own, I would appreciate a heated driveway. Not sure if it's been done already, but I would jump at the prospect of now having to shovel snow and ice ever again simply by pressing a button that would activate heating elements within the asphalt.

They exist, they seem to be in vogue in the Detroit area among the wealthy and people with extremely steep driveways.

Heated driveways are common place among the upper class towns where i am from.

On the topic of.steam cigs. I use one alot, bars resteraunts, that sort of thing. It.works really well actually and for.the equivalent of 12.5 packs i only pay 20$ as opposed to damn near 90 for ten packs of regular.

Ah, so heated driveways DO exist... very nice!

I want one.

But with regards to cigarettes, now that I've Googled what exactly a steam cigarette is, I guess that it's a far better alternative than traditional cigarettes, but all the same if I were a smoker I'd probably switch out to something like mints or whatnot if I had to keep up a habit of having something in my mouth.

The cigarette companies are just like any other company - they want to make money, and will do whatever they're legally entitled to do to get you to buy their product. Obviously they don't their customers to die, otherwise they'd lose their market, but they know that a certain percentage of people will die from smoking-related diseases. Until we find out exactly how to predict where and when cancer or whatever will show up though, it's a lottery.

But back to inventions, I think there is money to be had for the person that invents something that can cure the aforementioned cancer. I know that's the most unoriginal thing ever, but I think it will be reality at some point.

Bicycle signal lights;
2 LEDs, connected to a power source( 2 AA batteries?), and 2 toggle buttons to be mounted on the handle bars.

-Drilling square holes
:pOh wait that already exists.
Resident party pooper has arrived to remind everyone that these holes are not square, and that it is physically impossible to drill a square hole. Squarish, yes, square, no.

Back when I was little I always figured it was really hard to park a cruise ship at the dock. I thought, why couldn't they simply attach some thrusters that aim sideways, and just slide the ship in that way?

A couple days later, Discovery Channel had a show about cruise ships, and it turns out they actually have those. Pretty smart for a 12 year old, eh? :sly:

I have one, it's called an electric cigarette. No harmful smoke, no waste ash, lots of lovely nicotine in my lungs.

Likewise. I use the smoke tip brand. Company has been good, i had a couple batteries that would not charge and i got free.replacements. no questions asked.

Vaporized is the way to go.

....

You are unlikely to be able to Patent something particularly complex if it relies on current technology that probably is already patented.

Just saying...

FWIW, I'm (along with a colleague) waiting for a UK/European/US patent to be approved on a retail product that has just been picked up by Tesco in the UK. I have a 'certificate of invention' document, which means I'm officially an inventor!

A device that transmits the mind's eye onto a screen. So when you're trying to describe what something looks like, or a place you've been to, or a dream you've had, you just connect to that and there you go. I'm sure some of those images would be stunning.

I'm not entirely sure if it can be done with currently technology, but it's the one thing that I've wanted to see for a long time, and I know whoever invented it would be raking in the dough.

Shame about the taste though eh? And the idiots running around selling them... At least in Glasgow and Toronto anyway.
