Nice pictures! Did you make all of that in survival or 'creative-it-up'?

-----

Here's a creative city I've been working on/off for several years now. Started it in high school as a freshman and now I'm (supposed to be) a sophomore in college. Most of it is made out of stained clay (i.e. the ground is black stained clay, just in case you didn't know). I probably would have stopped a while ago if it wasn't for 1) new updates that keep adding stuff and 2) villages that spawn around so I build 'little' cities around them.

My 'end-goal' for this map is as follows:
- connect all mini-cities into one mega-city
- have a working rail system running from sector to sector
- have some sort of lake/landscape in the middle of the mega-city (see map picture)
- colonize The End and Nether
- fill the map (I've had to expand it twice now which caused some spawn complications)
- put it on a server

And without further ado, here's a spoiler containing pictures + captions!

I made it in creative mode the city was created in October 2014 and the majority was finished in April 2015. I do have a survival world I don't have photos of it yet but I will look for the video.

The Survival world is more to the end of the Video the rest is creative.

The start of my new city haven't worked on it in a long time.

I would like to see more of you're city @Lameonade

Your city's pretty large, and in a normal seed world, too. That's impressive by my standards (also impressive that you can tolerate the console controls, haha. I can't stand them. :P). I have a survival server world that me, my brother, his girlfriend, her sister, and our cousin partook in. I'll have pictures of that up eventually.

Sea-themed mini-city. This city has one row that is longer than the others, but that was only discovered after everything was built on the template, so I left it and made that large reflection pool so nothing could connect to it.

This mini-city was mistakenly planned a few blocks misaligned from the rest of the city's grid, so I filled in the pathways with red stained clay rather white to signify that.

I might make a video of this city so that you can get a better feel for it. Expect something either later today or sometime tomorrow, depending on how I feel. I may even show you my very first city of this sort, before and after a snapshot screwed it up.

Left a picture out of the spoiler just 'cause.

console controls are hard to get used to but I have never played it on pc. I find buliding skyscrapers very difficult or maybe its just the way I make them with a stair case. You're city must of taken a lot of time to build it looks good.

View media item 31380

...Actually...

there's no staircase :sly:

Since the world is in creative, I figured I didn't have to include one. Elevators make making skyscrapers a lot easier. Staircases also take up space and are tedious to build.

The only building with any access from survival mode is this one, which has a water-elevator, which is painfully slow given the building's height.

All the other buildings have open areas like this:

2017-03-13_19.50.59.png

But yeah, it did take a while to build. I borrowed the path layout from my previous superflat city, which got corrupted. I made a few slight modifications to it and it turned out like it is now.

AntVenom used to do world showcases. I haven't visited his channel in several years, so I'm not sure if he's still doing those, or even doing Minecraft still, to be honest.

I will have to pay my Playstation online membership before I try getting it on YouTube. I need to find more people to join this thread do you know anybody else who likes Minecraft on gtplanet?

I don't know anyone personally, but I would try the general discussion thread.

Pics coming, need to put online somewhere first. Here's a few run-through videos of my adventure map:

Main Tower base and mine below & some of the main cave.

A quick run from one of my smaller bases back to the main base through some of the underground rivers & caves.

I'll give my world a little go through at some point in the future and get it up here. Got a couple of worlds. Nothing special but not bad.

Not yet but in the next few days I'll do some small run through's of my couple of worlds.

Technically it's a video but this is my pokey ps3 world. I did use the save file transfer and some stuff went a bit loopy.

Giving this thread a little bump after a while. I had meant to get some pictures of my city with Shaders much much earlier, but life got in the way.

My new survival world first house (well, technically second, but this is my first "meant-to-be-permanent" house).

EDIT: In the time between posting those earlier photos and now (basically a 23 hour timeframe), I've made another house not too far away with some upgraded space and an additional garden. I used to use terracotta for my main 'modern aesthetic' building material, but concrete is both easier to make large-scale and has a more neutral color temperature. Only thing about it I don't really like is laying it down.

Well, since my main gaming computer has kind of died along with all the saves on it, I've started anew with a world on my Surface Pro 4. I used a nifty little program called Amidst to locate a Mushroom biome and start a little town thing. I'm thinking about locating other rare biomes and making a tiny town in each of them. Also, since I am using my Surface, I can't really use any shaders because of the Intel integrated graphics. So instead I'll be using another program called Chunky to render out chunks of the world to create nice screenshots. Although for some reason the mushrooms and iron doors don't appear properly, unfortunately.

So without further ado, here's a screenshot of my new Purpur based town settled within a Mushroom biome.

EDIT: Here's a couple more renders after I added a bit more to the town. I also changed the water color to something a little more refreshing.

Every time this thread pops up it makes me want to play again. Then I go on, build a naff 4x4x3 house and stop.

For me, it's just a matter of getting inspiration. After my computer died, I had lost any sort of motivation to play Minecraft at all. But my brother invited me to a server (Star Legacy) and we started playing on it. The whole concept of the server is space travel and exploration, so I got a little inspired by the different planet landscapes and the little bits of lore added to the environment. I inevitably wanted to create something like that on my own without all the quirks of the server. And thus this world was born, just like my other city I've posted about in this thread. That was inspired by my corrupted city that was inspired by the then new stained clay blocks.

It seems this thread is giving you motivation, but maybe not inspirational ideas to run with? I know watching other videos by YouTubers like Keralis gave me inspiration for some projects.

Finally back to doing Minecraft and PC gaming in general after purchasing a Windows 10 license for my new hard drive. After setting my settings and installing applications, I got to work on a new Minecraft city. This one is based on two previous cities I had on the other drive. I took the superflat world options from one I haven't shown here and a modified street layout of the large city in this thread and combined them to create a new, modular metropolis. So rather than place every block by hand, this time I'm using WorldEdit from the start to help speed things up when it comes to planning and implementation. This is what I have so far after a few hours of play:

I'm creating green spaces around the villages that spawn and will make houses/apartments/skyscrapers that surround them. Currently, the idea I have is the farther you get from the village, the higher the buildings get. So at first there will be Level 1: little one-story houses, arranged in four tiles. Then there'll be taller houses, but still in the four tile layout. Keep going and eventually you'll get to Level 2, which contains taller apartments, and in half cell configurations. The half cells can be oriented either north/south or east/west for variety. Level 3 is last and is where the skyscrapers are reserved. They are allowed to use the full area of the plot. The levels will radiate from the villages border-style, meaning I will create a Level 1 border around the village, then add a Level 2 border around Level 1... etc. Each border will probably be 2 or 3 plots 'thick', depending on the hierarchy.

So that's what I'm working on now. I still have the other hard drive, so I might try some kind of recovery thing with it, but I'm not expecting much to come from it.

So I've made a bit more progress on this world, and I can finally demonstrate what I mean by the level system.

Below is a spoiler with Levels 1.1 and 1.2. Level 1.1 are single story, single person homes and are the closest to the village. Level 1.2 are double story homes meant for 1 person, but can contain 2 snugly.

Level 1.2 in nighttime
2018-07-12_18.53.32.png

Next we have Level 2. Level 2.1 are 4-story apartments designed to hold 2 people per room, with a max of 4 being comfortable. Levels 2.2 and 2.3 will be identical to 2.1 except will have 2 more levels than the previous (so 2.2=6 stories and 2.3=8 stories).

Level 2.1 in daytime
2018-07-12_18.50.11.png

Level 2.1 in nighttime
2018-07-12_18.54.01.png

Because this village is in close proximity to another village, I will have to do Levels 1.1, 1.2, and 2.1 for that village before I can start on Level 2.2 for this village. As you can see, I've been alternating orientations with all plots to add diversity and uniqueness (albeit with all-white houses all the same form). I found myself saying "Wow, this is so cool" after flying around with Shaders on. It looks better than I though it'd look, and I'm excited to keep going. I'm thinking that the skyscrapers (Level 3) will continue until 3.4, and after that it'll just be water until another Level 3 is met. So there'll be little lakes every now and then to break up the massive concrete jungles and endless white landscape.

Oh man I missed this game :)

I made this bad boy back in 2014
contraption8137098.jpg

It's a command block contraption to recreate Herobrine. It probably doesn't work now that 1.8 did a whole ton of things that probably broke it, but yeah I was pretty happy with the result. Worked as expected :)

I should probably go back to playing Minecraft. My command block knowledge is quite rustyand outdated now though

So I've done quite a bit since my last post, but I'm only going to show a couple things.

I've changed the main spawn so there's a underground 'debriefing' room or whatever beneath the beacon. I don't really know what it would be used for, but it adds so much dimension to the otherwise flat landscaping. Not pictured are little stairwell things that will enable players to get back onto land after falling into the river.

2018-08-05_21.54.03.png

2018-08-05_21.54.24.png

Here's a better view of my radiating level structure. Lower levels are closer to the villages while higher buildings are farther out. I now realize that this is pretty much backwards to how an actual city would be built. Generally, higher density buildings are closer to the center of the city and low density buildings are farther out. But I figured since the village is such a rural looking area, might as well build more urban structures as you go farther away from them. That and going from high to low would require me to do math in order to make it all work out how I want it to end up (I don't like math :) But I still use it all the time when constructing these cities, so I'm really just lazy).

map.png

If you notice the village with nothing around it on the left of the map, it's very close to the high level buildings, so in order for everything to mesh correctly, I need to demolish several of those high level buildings, unfortunately. Planning goes a long way in this world.
