Come on GT.... Where does the original Mini come from??? Germany you say??? err no!! Its not like Gran Turismo to get its car facts wrong, but im not happy with it for say the '98 Mini is German! 👎

I agree, It was designed by Alex Issigonis, There is no more a british name that that except for maybe Patel but that's not the point, Jerry didn't design the original Mini Jerry designed the abomination of the brand

End Rant

Seems odd that they get such details so wrong, realise there are literally a thousand cars, but still....

Imagine if Messi was stated as being Brazilian on Fifa 11 and the rants EA would have :scared:

The are various errors on facts about cars. Another one is stating that the top range diesel engine for the 1 series is the 2.0 163hp...it is the the 204hp version...I could name a few more...

Louis Hamilton! :dunce:

He's a fricking F1 world champion and they can't spell Lewis! Sure its obscure but still... Towards the end of the description for the F2007

Lol! Patel, you got me badly with that :P

PD seem to go in for getting the details of things wrong.

I was reading about Louis Hamilton in one of the McLaren descriptions lol!

Then there is the 1969 Gulf Ford GT and John Weir (should be John Wyer).

Even more scary is what you guys are forgetting.

PD didn't write the versions we are reading.

The only version PD would have written themselves is the original Japanese text, everything we read is then translated from that during localization.

So someone in SCEE (or hired in by them) will have made that mistake during the translation stage of localization.

It doesn't however surprise me, I work alongside a team that has to get automotive training material translated into 15 different languages, including Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Some of the end results are far from spectacular and we end up getting told of mistakes years after they were made.

Scaff

Whilst a very good excuse, there is 1 flaw:

Names don't get translated

Reason not excuse.

I'm not excusing anyone of anything, I am explaining a rather valid reason behind a lot (not all) of the errors that pop up in text on the game, or for that matter any game.

Your point on names is a valid one, however within our own software we have had names that didn't need translating get changed. Never underestimate the human capacity for doing something they shouldn't.

Scaff

reason is a better term, excuse on their behalf indeed.

I was going by the 2 names mentioned as being wrong, but haven't seen any others myself.

A part of me thought PD left the description up to Ferrari themselves, with a notable spanish driver inputting the name of his fellow team mate as something else which DEFINITELY need no translation! But then I realised this kind of thing would be Massa's job....

You know, PD is a Japanese corporation, so chances are that the names were actually spelled in Japanese letters as well and some bloke got it wrong while translating the stuff.
The Mini shouldnt be German, is doesnt matter what language that is it!!!

Concerning the Mini, BMW bought Rover in 1994, so any Mini that was build after 1994 can basically be considered a German car.

Whilst this is true, The same could have been said for Volvo in GT4 as at that point they were owned by Ford, thus American.

I suspect the real reason is simpler. at this point the 'old' Mini was, as said above, a Rover product. It was probably just easier to class all Minis together under the new MINI brand that set about getting separate licenses etc. to put rover in the game, and to avoid any confusion between the two brands in-game

Well you could say the same about the Lotus's, are they considered Malaysian in the game?

Depends how far you want to take it, could upset the Americans and say that the GT40s should have a British flag next to them.... ;)

Thought about this afterwards actually, I'm at work so not exactly in the mental zone. Get me on GT5 though.... and I'm no better :banghead:

Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Bhd holds the majority of the shares for Lotus but doesn't own it completely.
MINI is a subsidiary of BMW since 1994, as BMW owns 100% of the MINI brand.

Ford Advanced Vehicles is a subsidary of Ford's, so it's still considered to be an American car.

But anyways, I still think it should be considered a british car, due to the involvment of Lola on the GT40 projekt :dopey:

I don't think they could get rights to the Rover name if they tried..... it doesn't even exist anymore.

The new MINI was already being developed by rover when BMW bought Rover. The mini brand was dwindling after years of releasing special "limited" editions to maintain interest. BMW had to pay to put in airbags and crash beams to keep the mini brand alive till they released the MINI in 2001.

Even though it's so wrong for the mini to be German, I'm just glad they brought it back for GT5. I think only the Japanese versions of GT4 had the mini in it.

Please stop talking about GT40's - I'm still 18million credits away from owning one :(

Minis have been in GT for a few versions I think? Deffinatly in the European GT4, pretty sure it was in GT2, I cant remember that far back though!

But yeah, its just nice to see it in the game.

Jaguar Land Rover own the rights to the Rover name now.

I'm glad the classic Mini is in the game but it is irritating when it's listed as German, when it is actually British. Speaking of vehicle nationality, am I mistaken or is the Focus ST classified as European? (Rightfully) I think I remember entering it in a European Cup, unless I'm mistaken.

Hi to all, i just found out a minor bug i wish PD resolves with the next update.

Mini Cooper 1.3i '98 is listed as German car.
At that time, if my memory serves me well BMW (Germany) owned Rover (UK) which produced the mini. The previous model '93 was made by Rover when she was still independent. The only difference was the 13 inches wheel option instead of 12 inches of the '93 model. Also the mini was never changed much since original model desinged in UK by Sir Alex Issigonis and produced through its life by Austin (UK), Morris (UK) and Rover (UK).

So it deserves to be listed under UK cars.
Also i would like to see more mini's like the MKI, Cooper S, ERA Turbo.
It's just not fair when there are more Fiat 500 than the Mini

It's not a bug, it's a minor mistake that doesn't really mean anything. They need to focus their time on other things than fixing a minor problem like that.
