The Cup

A series of 6 races, in the New Mini Cooper-S (GT4).
Each race will be run as a hotlap on a specific track and will feature tyre restrictions.
Each race will last a whole week.
Drivers will be granted points depending on their fastest clean lap (replays welcome).
The overall winner will be the racer with the most points at the end of race #6.

Race #1

While Tsukuba was all about being hard on the brakes and cautious with the tyres, race #1 will require smoother driving and rumble strips riding in order to keep enough speed through the winding sections of the track.

Car : Arcade Mini Cooper-S
Gearbox : no restriction, automatic or manual
Driving aids : no restriction
Tyres : soft
Quick tune : no tuning

Track : Autumn Ring Reverse
Arcade mode, Time trial, Original circuits.

Deadline : Tuesday, 5th April, 08:00am (GMT) - 00:00am (West Coast) - 03:00am (East Coast)

Ghost : 1’03.788
The ghost is the best clean lap of my first 5 laps session. It sets a reference time, so that you know how far (ahead) you are from the pace.

Rules

Driving rules : standard OLR rules
- 2 wheels on track at all times
- rumble strip is considered part of the track
- no hybrids or cheating of any kind

Submission :
- practice as much as you want before deadline
- PM me (flat-out) your best clean lap (final time only)
- save and keep your hotlap replay
- you can submit only once per race

Thread rules
- do not discuss final lap time
- do not discuss final sector time
- T times discussion is encouraged

LOL! I like the idea of the ghost 👍

He is even in the Leaderboard :D

Will smoke him as soon as I have a chance :sly:

The Wizard.

I finished last in my warmup race, but in the middle in the T2 times... :(
gotta improve my driving... ;)

let's see If I get more lucky this time...

Good luck all, and see you at the end of the race... and may the best wins...

1'03.471 3rd lap.. pushy little thing it is :P

EDIT: T2:1'02.863

EDIT2: T2:1'02.521 (getting on the edge here.. dont think there is much time to gain..)

👍

Board is updated, and there is already a submission.
I ran 5 more laps, with a 1'03.3 that I wasted in the next turn.

Ran a few laps tonight to get used to the track ... not really done much on this before, so I have a small learning curve here. Got to the stage where I was pretty UNHAPPY with how things were going, but then glanced at the ghost and such and - for a lot of mistakes - I'm just not that far off. I hope to start submitting some T2 times tomorrow evening :fingerscrossed:

Also trying to dabble in the WRS, which is another track AND car learning process, but hopefully I can spend a little time each evening trying to keep up here :p

T2: 103.603

I'm still off the pace, but that T2 was after a far from perfect run and I actually feel like I've got an easy 1 second I can take off it. I also ran T3 particularly well (in my world) at one point, so even though this track is somewhat of a learning curve, I feel my skill on it growing quickly.

As a sliiighhhttt aside, I'm assuming that things are going a little slower here because of the WRS?

I think so.
Last week's 14 submissions were exceptional : I was expecting something like 4 or 5 racers. The WRS being back, I'm certain we'll have less racers in the next races (unless they are outstanding, which I'm trying to achieve ;) ).
In addition to that, I'm away from the office and cannot keep the thread moving.
Things will go faster in the week-end, I'll PM reminders to people who raced the warm-up and from whom I have no news.

Cupwise : I've been busy working on the next races in the beginning of the week (I have ghosts for races #2 and #3 already). I'll start racing race #1 tonight and post a time early tomorrow.
👍

@Kolyana : for the WRS qualifier, I plan to submit a time 2 seconds faster than the one I PMed you, which should result in a mid-div.2 ranking.

I'm still here. I've been busy with real life and WRS on Tuesday and Now I can devote some time tonight to the Mini Cup.

Hi,
That's my T2 : 1'02.564, I think that I can do a better T2...but it will be a bite difficult :ouch: (I play ~30 minutes to do this lap).
Bye, ++

flat-out
I think so.

Hmmm. I'm off the pace by quite a bit in this WRS anyway .... clearly now much more so; it's an amazingly fun track and car, but it's a sublte little bugger, too, and time can be gained or lost on almost every corner. I'm hoping to have more time to dedicate to it this weekend, but juggling the mini-cup and WRS *is* becoming somewhat of a challenge timewise.

Why are you all complaining that you don't have time to play GT4?!?!?!

Call me crazy but i got up at 4 this morning to fit GT4 into my day. I just need this game. it's an addiction and a life saver. Since i've been playing GT4 with the DFP i haven't been speeding as much in real life. which is good. coz i think my luck has run out. Long story. anyways i'm a better driver now thanx to this game.

I don't have a Official T2 time but i can tell you it's under 1:03:xxx so far. The track is somewhat interesting though. everytime i drive on it i learn something new. The chicane thingies just a few turns before the finnish are nearly impossible to get through fast if you don't get the turn just after the T2 mark right. I also found that the 4th corner is loads of fun even in a FF car.

Yeah, everybody is in the same situation.
I'm working 10 to 12 hours a day, I have a wife and 3 kids and therefore not much free time. I usually play GT between 10pm and 2am.

BTW, welcome back Tr@sos, there's long time I hadn't seen you in OLR events.
I'll update the board later (when I'm back at hotel), and hopefully I'll be able to have a T2 myself on this board.
I'll spend the rest of the evening running some laps for the WRS qualifier and then preparing races #3 to #5.

A wife you could still deal with to get some game time but dang 3 KIDS i won't have the energy for that

Call me crazy

You're crazy :p

To be honest, if I were young again and less socialable, playing a few hours a night wouldn't be an issue, but in my older years I tend to want to do different things and I'd hate myself for declining time with my b/f because I wanted to play games (any game) instead. Realistically, I may have to forgo one or the other of these competitions ... I'm going to see how it goes over the next few days and weekend, and if I feel it's sucking too much time out of my schedule, something will have to give.

Yes, I fully expect the entire leaderboard to be sub-103. I ran a semi-slow and mistake riddled run and clock the 103's, so saving a second or so should not be too much extra work. It's an interesting track and some subtle corners and chicanes ... clever and careful use of the rumblestrips, and perfect cornering technique are everything.

I'm happier with THIS particular track/car than I am with the bloody WRS qualification .. lordy, I am well off the pace there and don't even see me closing it in the next 20 laps or so! At least with this one I feel that I can shave off half a second tonight, and obtain sub 103 probably over the weekend (assuming I don't play tomorrow).

Or something ... :guilty:

Actually the main problem is that we only have one PS2 for the whole family. 2 kids are too young to play, but my elder son and my wife both play a few hours a week... Meanwhile, I'm connected on GT Planet, discussing Gran Turismo issues ;)

I ran 5 more laps tonight, with a best clean T2 at 1'02.849.
I ran the WRS qualifier with no improvement at all.

Board is updated.

Had a chance to run about 20 laps and reached T2 @ 1'02.335

I think I can shave about .300 off after T2, but not much (if any) before T2. I pushed really hard to get that time then I botched the final corner a little. I just came in too hot and locked em up a bit and lost the speed comming out.

I cant wait til we come to the GT mode races that allow tuning. I don't even care if the Hp is higheror not. I just want to tweak the suspension settings and get rid of some of the understeer that is inherent in FF platform cars.

I have a scoop for you : next race will be also an Arcade race, but the 4 remaining will all be GT Mode races, so you'll be able to tune your Cooper as much as you want.

Board is up-to-date.

The winding section and the final hairpin will be crucial to nail a great lap time. That's why I chose the reverse track : T2 times don't give an accurate indication of what the lap time is and that keeps the suspense until the final results are posted. :sly:

Just received a submission from Naude, who takes the T2 lead by one hundredth.
I guess it will be considered as the new 'ghost' to smoke by some of us ;)

Board is updated.

Hehehhehehe I had a nice T2 under 1:02.1 but sadly i misjudged one turn and kind of took a shortcut. I viewed the replay and went into photo mode at that exact point. viewed from the front both left wheels were still on the rumble strip but from another view exact split second it showed that i was off the track by quite a bit.

I'm really fed up with that mini hey. FF is not that bad but it gets to me for some reason. The mini is the best FF i have driven in GT4 so far tho.

What does everyone else think of the car?

Actually I'm a big fan of the old Mini (see my avatar), not much of the new one.
I agree that Arcade FF is not the best or funniest car to drive.

Be patient, from race #3 on, we will run GT Mode Minis : I practiced them on many tracks in different configurations (to make sure all races are well balanced) and the driving experience is much better.
Trust me, your tuning and driving skills will soon be necessary ;)

I'm not much of a tuner. I just love driving factory standard cars but i'll give it a go and hopefully i won't finnish last :P

Woohoo! GT mode. I love you, Man. :yuck:

...Not really, I just think you're all right. 👍
We've already had this discussion in the interest check thread haven't we ?
