Never been asked. Besides, I think the site's perfectly well moderated as it is, without having to suffer having ME with power...
To be fair to Jordan, you've made it clear on multiple occasions that you prefer your independence. Not that I blame you.
El Gigante
How do you become a moderator then? Do you have to be friends with Jordan or something
Actually, I directly exchanged a total of about 300 words with Jordan before he invited me to be a moderator. What I
did do was try to be a helpful, valuable, constructive, and active member. I tried to be a good citizen, not in order to become a moderator (it actually never occurred to me) but out of honest desire to see this place reach its potential and be a good forum, full of solid information and with a minimum of crap. One day 9 or 10 months after I joined as an active member, I was pleasantly surprised to find a PM from Jordan. About 2 years later he promoted another SM and I to Administrator, again with no expectation on our parts.
The people who get frustrated when the mods close a thread are the ones to whom it never occurs that they are
not the first person to think of something, or else because they are too lazy to do the small amount of work that needs to be done, or because they feel self-important about making a thread.
Frankly, we're not too worried about losing those kinds of members when we offend them. Another one will be along tomorrow, thinking he's discovered that the Speed 12 is hard to drive, or that it would be a good idea to ask an impossibly general question like "what's the best car?"
The ones that
don't get angry are the ones we want to keep. They're the kind who learn from an honest mistake, and try not to make it again, and who go on to become intelligent, contributing members. We get this kind every week; thankfully. Members like this have made a huge contribution to the quality of this site.

Duke closed a thread earlier on the grounds that it was in the wrong location and that it is not possiable to accuratly measure 0-60mph times, now I had no chance to reply to this one, and could have brought a useful point to it.
All you had to do is ask. You're one of those contributors we want to keep.
