Uh...I'd watch about posting other forums' links here.. It can be against the ToS. Not that you'll be staying long judging by what you say, but it's simple courtesy. :)

There really IS nothing we can do about the bad apples of the bunch or those who simply get tired of this forum. The most we can do to a particularly bad person is ban him and have an angry "bad" person wanting revenge of some sort. That's not what we want. Ideally we want everyone to contribute and learn in some way or another. Since this is an ideal, it's not entirely possible. However we have moderators to help filter the stuff that is contribution and opinion to help others learn from them. That's not to say there's not a bit of fun to be had since this IS a video game forum, after all.

In any case, this issue is not quite as big as this thread makes it seem. Yes we do have a lot of "re-threading" in some forums, but in general it's delt with swiftly though not to everyone's liking.

"but it's simple courtesy."

funny you brought courtesy up cos there is a complete lack of it and manners on this forum...

I think it's funny you can come to that conclusion being that you've been a member since today. You've probably looked around a while before that, however would lead one to believe that we do enforce people to have good manners. Amazing.

Bye then. See that red X up in the top right hand corner?

worst forum going....need i say, if admin would just cancel my account that would be brill

Well hello there, whitey. You seem to be making a habit of joining forum sites just to have a go at them.

But guess what? You can logout and never have to bother coming here again, rather than whine about it.

Famine, why the hell are you not a moderator, seriously ??!!??

As we were saying....

Something needs to be done relatively soon about the extra noise in these forums. This is a great resource once you can find what you're looking for. In that sense, it's not much different from the rest of the 'net: you just have to learn to filter out what you don't want to find what you DO want.

Never been asked. Besides, I think the site's perfectly well moderated as it is, without having to suffer having ME with power...

That would be absolutely hilarious to see in action.

Magic. ;)

My guess is recommendation. Or some mystical council or something. lol

I don't see what would be wrong with about 2 to 5 more moderators spread throughout the forum.

How do you become a moderator then? Do you have to be friends with Jordan or something
You have to be asked by a member of the moderation team. So yeah, its a mystical council sort of deal.

Ok,

As a moderator and member I encourage any and all "GT" enthusiast to visit the gtp.

Other members and interest are also welcome. :D

However, no one must stay if they do not wish to.

Please feel free to come and go as you please, with-standing all rules, regulations, agreements or otherwise, found here & here.

Any and all who wish to continue discussion of GTP policy and procedure should go here and use these search results to find the proper thread to discuss moderator behavior.

Beyond that I must say on a personal level...

I took responsibility for all of my actions and offered my reasons for doing so.

I even left the thread open for rebutal.

If duke doesn't close this- I will.

To be fair to Jordan, you've made it clear on multiple occasions that you prefer your independence. Not that I blame you.

Actually, I directly exchanged a total of about 300 words with Jordan before he invited me to be a moderator. What I did do was try to be a helpful, valuable, constructive, and active member. I tried to be a good citizen, not in order to become a moderator (it actually never occurred to me) but out of honest desire to see this place reach its potential and be a good forum, full of solid information and with a minimum of crap. One day 9 or 10 months after I joined as an active member, I was pleasantly surprised to find a PM from Jordan. About 2 years later he promoted another SM and I to Administrator, again with no expectation on our parts.

The people who get frustrated when the mods close a thread are the ones to whom it never occurs that they are not the first person to think of something, or else because they are too lazy to do the small amount of work that needs to be done, or because they feel self-important about making a thread.

Frankly, we're not too worried about losing those kinds of members when we offend them. Another one will be along tomorrow, thinking he's discovered that the Speed 12 is hard to drive, or that it would be a good idea to ask an impossibly general question like "what's the best car?"

The ones that don't get angry are the ones we want to keep. They're the kind who learn from an honest mistake, and try not to make it again, and who go on to become intelligent, contributing members. We get this kind every week; thankfully. Members like this have made a huge contribution to the quality of this site.

Duke closed a thread earlier on the grounds that it was in the wrong location and that it is not possiable to accuratly measure 0-60mph times, now I had no chance to reply to this one, and could have brought a useful point to it.
All you had to do is ask. You're one of those contributors we want to keep.

Oh for sure - I wasn't complaining. I'm not sure how I'd feel having to carry the weight of GTP on my back every time I posted. If I were to be asked (not hinting anything here) I honestly don't know how I'd react - I like making the contributions I do as an independant, but sometimes I get a little irked at not being able to close pointless threads (I moderate elsewhere, and have no meaningful existence outside the internet, so I'm here an awful lot). Then again, you guys are rarely far behind (if at all) and the reporting system seems to work well.

I'm rambling now, aren't I?

*goes off to eat some chocolate*

I have no problem with the Mod Squad around here and I think they do their job fine - after, managing a forum of 75000-ish users is no mean feat. I've done a spot of moderating before on other forums and I know what it's like, especially when you get people spamming with anti-Moderator threads ... but I've also seen the results when the Mods can't keep up (and considering that forum has just 30000 users) I think the GTP Mods do their job just fine and I think it's a poor way to repay them for their hard work by complaining about them.

Vr6Fidelity,

The moderators here at GTP are fair, and wise. They do what is best for the forums. Why do they close topics that have already been covered elsewhere? To keep the server running smoothly! If the moderators left all the useless threads here open, this would be a very, very, very slow website. Server speed slows down as posts rack up. Duke is one of the many prestigious members of GTP. It seems like your implying that the GTP moderators aren't doing a good job because they are locking your threads that have questions that have been covered elsewhere...and if that is the case, you're very wrong. If you wouldn't be so self-centered you might realize why the moderators lock threads so much. They may not contain any vulgar slang, any offensive pictures, but if it is a useless post, then why waste forum bandwidth on it? That's what the Off-Topic forum is for. There are still guidelines, but that's where all the junk in the forum goes (and the Conversation Forum). If you saw this from Jordans Point Of View, you would definetly understand why they lock and delete useless junk. God gave you a brain, now use it!

Have a Nice Day,

Umm...I guess so. Duke did have good reason to close your thread dude. Don't get all butt hurt and take offense to it. I'm sure the moderators don't go around closing threads just to be mean. They are not me, that's what I'd do.

Vr6Fidelity, This wouldn't of happened if you would have just used the thread that was already open. The mods can be cool if you just abide by the rules.

Just wondering,
Why is there a big fuss here?

Vr6Fidelity
I also clearly stated i had read the entire retarded 75 page mission hall thread and searched, Then one a-hole comes in and types "did you search" and now my thread is locked.

Kent
Just a quick search of the official mission hall thread brought me these 3 replies.

Excellent Write-up Of Mission 11 By Uncle Harry

All based on a search of the Official Mission Hall Thread using the term "york."

Now really, which party here should have their behavior in question?

I think gtplanet is very well moderated personally. After watching it taken out here so well, i've adopted the same scheme on my forum. Sadly, people mainly people who have no common sense, comment on how "mean" i am. I tell them that i'm moderating within the rules, and that if they think i'm being unreasonable, they should see how 77,000+ members manage to keep to them each day on gtplanet. When they do see that it's not impossible to keep to, they usually shut up. Works quite well ....

I must say, I was going to post a complaint about the Mods constant locking of threads, Granted I am more of reader of the Forum and I don't contribute much, But I did find the Mods constant locking threads very annoying, I was going to call them the thread nazis and going to go into a long and uncalled for Rant and rave session.

But upon reading and searching for a thread about this very topic/issue.
My attitude towards this issue has changed, I can now see where the Mods come from and the reasoning behind a lot of threads being locked, Also I didn't understand just the massive numbers of new threads being put up everyday.

This is not to kiss the Mods A##'s or anything like that, I still feel on occasions that they can sometimes be a little bit overzealous with locking of topics.

But I will say I understand where they come from.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your comments, Mkey.

I'm glad you put the effort forth to look for an existing thread. You've just given the perfect demonstration of why we don't like to duplicate topics more than necessary - you had an issue; you searched to see if the issue was already covered; you read through the existing information; and you increased your understanding of the original issue.

Good job!

And we're always open to reasoned differences of opinion on how this forum is moderated. Just getting teed off that someone closed your precious thread will not get you very far. Try PMing one of the staff, or posting a comment on this board, explaining why you think the thread should be open and how it is different from an existing thread.
