Pick a Unix, they all have a command line.

Why limit yourself to a 386 - that was only 10 years ago! I've got an 086 in my loft! I do miss command lines and BASIC. My first programme/game was 'Caverns of the Turd Burglar' in '82 on a 16K Spectrum (which itself wasn't my first computer!).

Why not get an emulator to satify your needs (!)... ;)

I use www.emulation.net/ but I'm Mac based, someone must know of a PC version. :)

I fancy a game right now. Where's my tape player.... :D

because the first computer i had was a 386, a 386 laptop, though it was more of a suitcase, and it still needed to be plugged in.

most of the games on it, duke nukem1, 2, pinball, etc, were dos games, so i just used command line, rarely used windows, i hate 3.1, garbage.

i think if i ever get a new computer im going to try unix or linux or something on this computer, just to try it, ive never used it.

They all have command prompts, even Windows XP. Every once in a while I still run Ultima V just for the heck of it. Despite the fact that I play the newest games, and love them, the first three games I install on my machine are DOS based. (Pro Pinbal: Big race USE, Timeshock, and Fantastic Journey.)
It's good to know your roots, just in case of a Nuclear war. ;)

A little bird once whispered in my ear that "MAME" was a good emulator for the PC....

I've got MacMAME - I think it's the same thing. Runs all the classic arcade games brilliantly.
