Strangely I got my fastest lap during the finishing stages of the race. Unlike at Brands I hadn't practiced at all so I started out fairly slowly and kept getting faster! You can push these cars harder than you think. The lap times are surprisingly close!!

I must get a few laps in at Snetterton. It's the 300 too, another short track. Yay.

Good write up again Willi. 👍
I wish I hadn't dropped away mid race otherwise my late pace might have troubled you. :)
I had a good scrap with @Napalm_LT though.

Great pictures again, John! 👍 You really have a talent to capture what the race was about

Really enjoy reading your write ups @WiSchmo! Have you considered a career in motorsports journalism?!

Thanks, @RagingBullLC! No, I haven't. I'm a chemist by training, but you never know, haha

I wish I hadn't dropped away mid race otherwise my late pace might have troubled you.

You surely would have! These cars might not be so fast, but on this track the slipstream is still a force to be reckoned with. Add to that my special relationship with the digital race director...

Also @richroo scared the s*** out of me with his arrival in the last few laps! Where did you find that pace at the end?! Had you been looking after your tyres really well? My front left was molten rubber I think.. Totally cooked
great last few laps thought about it going into the last chicane but chicken out probably for the best.
After the slow start i had to focus on putting my best laps in thinking i would make a couple of places back but i did a bit better and slowly the cars kept coming . Funny i got fastest lap but not any sector :)
@WiSchmo great read

Mon BTCC 2016 Round 2 Silverstone Classic.jpg

Silverstone Classic is one of my favourite tracks as evidenced by the game showing it as one of my three highest mileage circuits, however for some reason I just couldn't keep heat in the tyres of the BMW - they started green and gradually cooled. Early on I thought I was going to have to retire due to lack of grip, but decided to persevere.

I thought @Oldbass47 showed good pace - he has really progressed as a driver this year. I felt very guilty about holding up Oldbass and @John Wells - I nearly caught back up with John, but sadly spun out on the last lap.

@slthree has also shown tremendous improvement as a driver this year - he might be disappointed about missing the race - I would happily have swapped my place in the race for a berth on his cruise ship!

Congratulations to all the finishers and especially the podium men - @rj5992 and @beachboy6658 are looking very strong!

PS - very nice to hear an interview with Touring Car Legend Jason Plato on Radio 4 this morning (at about 9am) - good publicity for him and BTCC!

You might think twice if you were 1 of 6000 + people on that ship

It was definitely a great time and being with the family was priceless, but I'm kind of a loner and 6000 people with not necessarily the best manners does tend to test your patience

And, thank you Sick for saying I've shown improvement. It would be hard for anyone to race with your group and not improve a little.

Hi guys,

Apologies but I won't be on the grid tonight! My fiancée returned from a few months away on Saturday so spending the evening with her.. I will be on the grid on Wednesday for business as usual though.. Hopefully with less shape shifting teleportation of my car antics this week...

I must get a few laps in at Snetterton. It's the 300 too, another short track.
Good job I rechecked I wrote the above but then started practising the 200! The 300 is not so short after all.

if there is room tomorrow i like to join the racing again
Hi Lancer, be good to see you around again.

Hopefully with less shape shifting teleportation of my car antics this week...
If you can make it jump to the front that'd be worth doing.

I'd probably say it'll be a Renault @IBZ6L20VT there's a lot of those available for the reserves.

Sorry for not replying to the various queries over the last few days - I was having a bit of a break from GT Planet over the weekend! I did grass cutting, chores and watched a lot of World Superbike Championship action instead - Race 1 must go down as one of the most exciting races of all time!

Lovely to see @lancerevoo back!

DD84UK is sadly taking a break to focus on real track action in his Mini (Hurry back DD), but Lancerevoo can take over his Escort in Wednesday's series.

@richroo has been shown as 4th in my table - I am not sure if he disconnected before the results were listed, but he was holding that position on the last lap.

Mon BTCC 2016 Round 3 Snetterton 300.jpg

This is a tough track, I must say, and one that punishes mistakes immediately. Mistakes I did a plenty...
I qualify in 4th position. This suggests that my pace is decent, but obscures the fact that I've only had one clean lap amidst many spins and off track moments. I just don't have consistency at Snetterton, especially when I push for faster lap times.
At the start, I have good acceleration and try to position my car next to @AndreasR's for the braking zone at the Montreal hairpin. I never quite get there, though, and fail to spot the proper braking point. I somehow manage to slow the car down but am unsure if @AndreasR has seen my mad dive. Judging from the replay I think he did, because he gives me enough room, but at the time I didn't realize. As a result, I stay as much to the inside as I possibly can to avoid contact, so much, in fact, that I hit the sausage curb at the corner's exit. Not being able to continue to steer while on two wheels, I hit the left rear of @AndreasR car and spin him around. I'm very sorry for that, and glad to see that he recovered to a podium position. I park my car off the track to let him back through, but naturally most of the others use that opportunity, as well. From 4th to 9th in one corner is not the start I wanted :boggled:
On the bright side, the field is dense and the action intense, and as I said last Wednesday, this is why I'm racing in the first place :D Unfortunately, thoughts about what could have been still linger in my brain, and I run wide on the exit of both Agostini and Hamilton on lap 2. With @Don Mejillone right on my tail, this earns me a 2s time penalty and a stern warning from the race director. I then overspeed the entry to Brundle, somehow manage to avoid a spin into Nelson, but again go off track and have to cede my position to my teammate. He is stuck behind @Oldbass47 and @beachboy6658, though, so I manage to catch up with them in no time. However, I get it wrong coming out off Hamilton for second lap in a row, and this time I lose the car completely. Seemingly inspired, @beachboy6658 repeats my Hamilton pirouette on the next lap, and in a moment of "now I can catch him" I focus my view too much ahead to notice that my left front wheel is leaving the race track. The result is immediate: another violent spin  I scold myself and make the conscious decision to reduce my pace for the sake of consistency. This works out, as I don't have another spin until the end :)
Now starts the most fun part of my race: It takes me about 3 laps to reestablish contact with @beachboy6658. I'm conservative with my braking points, mindful to avoid more off track moments or bump into another car. I really enjoy how close you can follow in these touring cars, but the chase is ended only half a lap later, when @beachboy6658 has trouble negotiating Hamilton once again.
Next up is @Oldbass47, but his pace is faster and, when I do catch up with him on lap 8, his defensive driving very clever. He knows exactly where the best overtaking spot on the circuit is, and is a joy (now) and a pain (yesterday) to see how he positions the car to get the best exit possible out of Murrays and onto the long pit straight  He is fast in all the right places, and I only manage to pass him after he runs wide through the infield hairpin 2 laps later.
This leaves me with an empty track in front of me, and I pick up my pace to find out whether I can reel in my teammate @Don Mejillone, who in turn is catching up to @IfAndOr and @rj5992. But driving faster also increases the risk of additional mistakes. I manage to half the gap between us, but running wide after a mid-corner lockup through Nelson spells the end to my efforts with only 6min to go. At the finish, @Don Mejillone has almost caught the fighting pair in front of him, but the gap between us is almost identical to what it was when I started my pursuit 6 laps ago.

Another cracking write up. 👍
You've been looking up the names of the corners. :)

Snetterton is trickier than it first seems, attacking the corners too fast can lead to problems. Those sausage kerbs are also quite extreme! I think they must be oven baked.

Not being able to continue to steer while on two wheels,
What? It's easy. I wish I could have saved the race because at one point I was on 2 wheels for what seemed like many seconds while steering around a corner. Stunt man, no trouble.
I also wanted to watch (I think) @rj5992's rally action over the grass by the start finish straight. Made me smile.

Lovely to see @lancerevoo back!
Not so lovely to see he's as fast as ever. :P
