Monza and the infinite sadness

Yep I struggle with Fuji as well and therefore hate it. It's a very technical circuit and I know I just need to master it.
Time to set up an endurance race there I think.

Well, you see, Monza didn't used to be like that. There was an oval, along with a more complicated piece. But I don't why they decided to ditch these parts and adopt the current form.

Wolfgang von Trips died on the run up to the southern oval in the 1961 Grand Prix and the high speeds were deemed to be unsafe.

Monza is great with clean racers.

Going from full throttle to standing on the brake at 200 mph and "hoping" you timed it just right to make your turn is exhilarating.

They should have "fixed" the oval instead of bypassing it and relegating it to the whims of erosion.

They should at least "fix" it for GT.

It's not my favourite either, you can really mess up by braking too early or too late, and pretty much every corner on that track is like that.

That's what makes it such a "skill" track, getting the perfect lap there is great fun. When not one, but two cars do it the resulting drag race down the front straight to the finish line can get real exciting. I lost two races in a row there, the first by .6 seconds and the second by .3 seconds in my Italia, that d*mn Enzo got me both times through that long final corner. It was a lot of fun even though I lost :)

It was actually the run to, what is now, the Parabolica - The Southern Oval is a huge banked section of track just behind the trees on the outside of the Parabolica.

Tragic accident though 15 spectators died in the accident as well. Tragic

You are correct it was Parabolica

It took me a while to come around to Monza as well, I started to enjoy it after learning the lines, brake markers etc. I've been doing some tire testing for an upcoming league race there where well be running with tire wear on for the first time. I've included a bit track walk too, you can check it out at http://fctgt5.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/tires-for-monza-mashup.html?m=1

Does anyone know if there's any treads going with track guides on GTPlanet, I've had a bit of a hunt and come across anything yet.

When I'm racing against the AI and there's a lot of big (read: GT500 style) cars, I HATE the Nurburgring. It's narrow, twisty and the elevation changes constantly. I can't pass the AI in my X2010 because their cars are physically blocking the road.

Tsukuba Circuit... that's my favorite. For racing, for drifting, for anything, it's awesome. As well as Tokyo R246 and the Top Gear Test Track.

I also hate Monaco (too many turns!) London (too narrow) and Special Stage Route 7 (seven miles one way, seven miles the other way; BOOOORING!)

Nice thread Evan.

Not many track threads here, I did a few last month, no one disliked them but real life jumped up, I should get round to doing a few more. Your Monza walk was nice, but take in the view of the Royal Park - and drink the history.

Serraglio always takes me to the last section of Grand Prix the Movie, when JP Sarti loses control of his Manetti Ferrari on the North Banked section flies over the barriers and lands in the trees on the left side of the track well after Serraglio (As you drive the GT5 track before you go under the overpass of the banking)

Have you walked under the banking... and looked at the graffiti on the concrete lintel of the banking above?
(You need to be past the banking but look back up the track towards Serraglio... Can't read Italian myself...

I'm also not big on Monza. It just could never be my "home track." It doesn't seem to have the character that so many other tracks have. But for some reason I'm pretty good and consistent there, so I don't mind racing there :)

My most hated tracks are the dirt and snow tracks
Most loved High Speed Ring and Daytona Infield lol

The nurb' scares me. I have never in my 6+ GT career(since the nurb' was added to the gt series) made a clean lap unless you count the lisence test on gt4 and the one time took a lap in my maxed out 2cv(makes it sound kooler than it was.

Thanks Ryk. Great point about soaking up both the atmosphere and the history, really brings the circuit to life and adds another enjoyable dimension to the real life tracks in GT5

It should be noted that Monza is home to the closest finish in Grand Prix history, when Peter Gethin in a BRM P160 beat Ronnie Peterson in a March 701 Cosworth by only 0.01 second in the 1971 Italian Gran Prix. Third place was Francois Cervert in his Tyrrell 002 Cosworth, off the pace by only 0.09 second.

Worst Track.... Toscane, Route X, Route 7, Fuji ,Monaco, all custom track.

Best: Daytona, Indy, Route 246, High Speed Ring, Spa

Plenty of tracks in the game. Race the ones you like and don't race the tracks you don't like...Infinite happiness!

Mthe 'rings that go around the long 12-mile forested section (Nurburgring Nordschleife, Nurburgring 24-hours, Nurburgring type-V)... maybe I'll warm up to it someday but right now I feel the same way about these tracks as the OP feels about Monza. What's the difference between 24h and type-V anyway?

I've wondered that myself many times...

I really can't stand Tsukuba anymore... especially after the Roadster 4hr endurance, and knowing that I'll end up doing a 9hr event on it...

Agreed. That's normally how i play it, but i had to do this one for the level 18 ticket. Needless to say, i won't be doing it anytime soon again.

The GP part of the track is the difference between the 24h and the Type-V. I don't know the exact differences off the top of my head, but it's the same differences between the GP/D and GP/F tracks.

I used to hate it as well for the exact same reasons, boring straights tied together by featureless corners, but after racing it in a proper racing car in a SuperGT league, my opinion on it changed. With a really high powered purpose built car, all the corners make sense.

Funny, I am almost the opposite of your track preferences.

All your best would be on my worst list, except for maybe Spa.

Also, I actually like Monaco, with a good lower PP stock car (corvette, M3, or any FR sports car).

If i broke it down, I like the tighter, technical courses. Ones like, Autumn ring (favorite track, btw), trail mountain, any version of the ring, ect.

If the real purpose of this thread is to ask what our least favourite track is, you should probably change the thread title to 'what is your least favourite track'. But there are already threads like it. If you really only started this thread to tell us how much you hate Monza, then I'm really not sure how you want me to respond... 'good for you'? :/

It was just a general statement of dislike and then a question. I figured it was pretty straight forward. I searched the forum and couldn't find anything specific about least favorite track (maybe i missed it, feel free to point one out).

It a good thing the internet is free place, It gives me the ability to make a pointless thread and you to post a pointless comment in said thread.

Oh, and for future reference since you asked, when your trolling me i'd prefer "cool story, bro" 👍

Favorites: Monaco and Nordschleife Tourist (Just the green hell) because they require skill to pass cleanly. The roads are only like 2.5 to 3 car widths. It's exhilirating to actually get a pass in there, especially at some of the tightest turns.

Least Favorites: Mt. Aso since the course creator doesn't do it justice.

The Nurb and Cape Ring top my list as LEAST FAVORITE (yes, I don't like the Nurb and never will).

Laguna Seca and SPA are my favorites.

blah blah

Here are some threads you can maybe get your opinion thread merged into, or you could just post there instead:

And you're wrong regarding me 'trolling' you. I'm trying to help you by telling you that your thread has already been done and doesn't have a very relevant title to what you claim your aim is. Taking this information on board, you can make your future threads better. Ok?
