So far standard cars have enjoyed some updates

-fixed textures/reflections
-Wheel changeablity
-Interiors

So what next?

Personally, i would like to see the exhaust tips change with exhaust upgrades as with premiums and carbon bonnets (not just for the look, but for the wieght reduction)

I'd like some more visual changes, such as new Exhausts and hoods, but you couldn't do that in GT4 so you can't do that in GT5. All I can hope for now are better textures and at least some detail in interiors. I'd be happy if all the standards had interiors like the Prowler or the Fireblade.

Personally I think standards will remain as they are. Bonnets, exhausts etc will require too much work for PD. The interiors and wheels were fixes requiring no new art, the other bits will require new art and they will not be done IMO.

I am just happy we can change the wheels now.

Apart from cleaning up some more textures, I don't see standards recieving anything major anytime soon. PD is probably trying to focus on new content now.

It amazes me the number of times I see people on here state that something can't be done. It can be done, likely will not be done.

Well, we already have wheels change for standard cars on 2.02 update. But some standard (some productions like Bugatti Veyron, all racing cars) can't change wheels due to unknown reason.

If PD were to do anything more with standards, it should be to focus solely on converting them to premiums now, personally. They look good enough as they are at the moment (and they drive great of course), and I wouldn't want to see them spend any more time and effort on touching them up, imo.

IMO standards cars are looking good. Before adding exhaust tips and bonnets to standards I wish the fix the edgy shapes in the shadows and smoke.

I would love to see new paint schemes. Give us new schemes on the FGT's, give us Phoenix Racings' R8lms, the black #3 and Champion Racing R8, Gulf Mclaren F1 GTR #39, etc.

A big question. Why Mazda Furai and Bugatti Veyron aren't premium already after a year since GT5 was published? Especially Furai has an absolutely wrong sound from the engine (3-rotor screamer)...

Possibly the ability to add other simple aero parts such as diffusers and front aero parts along with exhaust tips. They would be the next logical steps although PD may feel they have done enough to improve the standards already!

I never added diffusers on any cars in gt5. I know it's useful on a race cars but on a Sunfire or a Civic...?

The only thing I can think of to do now is to restore the animations that the cars had in GT4 but no longer have (mudflaps, mostly; but also windshield wipers, etc.) and to make the Standards have a GTPSP-style cockpit. Fixing performance glitches would be nice, but with them not even doing it for Premiums I don't see them doing it for Standards.

Aside that in GTPSP cockpits you can see the exterior of the car where applicable (plus point) and that the internal rear view mirror isn't working (minus point), they look the very same to me, watching youtube videos (I don't have GTPSP).

Perhaps you could elaborate on the differences?

I'm not too fussed about outside appearances. If it was a cockpit upgrade I'd be happy but I really can't complain about the standards being bad.

Standards are looking more and more beautiful after each update. Very soon, they will all look like the Veyron or the XFR :)

We got:

-Improved textures
-Wheels
-"semi" interior views

What I would like to ssse if possible:

-Exhaust tips
-A more complete interior view like in GTPSP (hoods visible)
-A couple of aero kits for some standards (as their textures are improved further)

They are very different. It's just like the preimium interior view but without any detail showing. You can clearly see the car. In GT5 is just like the bumper cam but with a black frame around it.

It's like in GTPSP you can feel you're driving the car, and in GT5 is like playing Metal Gear Solid when you're inside the box.

Unfortunately I have no software to do a comparison and post a vid. But if somehow someone could compare maybe the Mustang Cobra R, that would be an awesome example.

Detailed interiors, carbon hoods and aero parts such as front lips/splitters/sideskirts/rear balance/diffusers.

Along with what Jav said, I'd love to see a Race Mod for Standards, as well as more Premiums added to the Race Mod list. But that's serious daydreaming, there.

The team could do some HD texture skins for the cars in batches to replace the law res stuff they have now, and this has sort of been happening in the updates, though I'm not sure exactly what they did to make the Standards look better. But rather than do any major work on the Standards, I suspect that there will be a gradual replacement of significant cars with Premium models made for GT6.

I just hate how Standards are treated as a whole in Gran Turismo 5. Maybe they aren't as pretty and as customizable and adaptable as Premium cars, but they are just treated like... almost Easter Eggs. Filler. I am not expecting any kind of leaps-and-bounds improvements with Standards anytime soon, but I don't think too much more can be done right now to make most or any Standard better.

Not necessarily. If they did it like they should have from the start (and did in GT2), they could easily quadruple the amount of RMs in the game just by allowing Standard models to use Premium RM meshes (for example, doing so with the Standard NSX models alone would nearly double the RM models in the game). The game practically treats them as entirely separate models anyway, with their own descriptions and everything (unlike GT2); so it wouldn't make any difference to anything. They would just need to change the stats.

I think that basically describes the reason they were put in, to mask the relatively limited amount of Premium cars, especially regarding certain categories (mostly the humdrum kind, usually a GT specialty).
To be honest, I'm treating them like that too (apart from a few opentop cars since they received a 'decent' cockpit view) and don't even bother collecting most of them.

And even though I did object to them being included when it was announced what a Standard car actually was, I didn't foresee them spending very much additional time improving them and I think PD thought too that they 'could get away with it' as they were.
Having a default range of Premium wheels applied to all Standard cars probably wasn't that time consuming to do, but making hundreds of different silhouettes for closed cars probably was.

In hindsight they might even regret the decision to include previous gen cars in a current gen game, given the additional time spend on assets they can't use in the future (at least I hope not) under 'pressure' from user feedback they might not even expected to arrive this massive on this subject (at least I didn't as I thought their main purpose was clear).
I'd rather they'd spend all that time making more Premium content instead but it seems I'm in the minority for wishing that.

I really want the no spoilers option but fixing the door, hood , and trunk jams and fixing the jaggies around the wheel would first on my list but I think they would just make a premium version of the car instead of doing that.
Exhaust tips and carbon hoods would be nice too.
