Considering the time of the year, it probably had to do with the F1GP festivities.

Elsewhere.

It's Grand Prix weekend in Montreal, so everyone has their cars out, driving downtown. I asked the Diablo driver if he'd "let me hear it" and he simply shook his head.

I'm going to watch qualifications tomorow. Unfortunately the support races suck this year. Ferrari Challenge (sigh), BMW cup (amatuer drivers), ditto for Mazda racers, and the Civics (stock Civic coupes being driven like shopping carts).

Here's a 575 that was hanging around. Considering Ferrari charges a trillion dollars for any option, I'd say the wheels he had were northward of 6,000,000$.

Mhmm. The 456 is really underrated. A very nice car indeed. I've got a little model one from my childhood still on a shelf in my room. :)

I didn't have the digital camera with at the track today, but I saw the new SLK55 and a C55 Sportwagon (I didn't know they existed). Both of them sounded spectacular, even from where I was seated.

It was most certainly a C wagon. I thought the same as you when I saw it go by the first time, but it definitely had the C headlights and Taillights (you cannot confuse the two, from behind). What was really weird was the fact that the from clam was completely different from the C55 AMG sedan. The wagon version had the same brake cooling vents just infront of the wheels, as seen on the SL65 and SLK55. Loud quad tailpipes as well.

It could be something never seen before. Last year's race used an SLK safety car as well, and that was far before I saw the new SLK on the roads at all.

No it wasn't. The styling was clearly Benz styling. Very clean, unlike the detailed "wire" styling from Brabus. The cars were provided straight from Mercedes, I doubt they would throw in any tuned cars, espcially from other companies. I guess we will have to wait and see if anything comes out of Mercedes in the next few months. Acura/Honda had a bunch of safety cars as well, but they were non-existant compared to the sound of the AMG cars. Even the people sitting around me commented on how the Merc sounded astounding compared to their wives' wagon.

A pretty disappointing race today, to be honest. JP Montoya got pretty screwed over (even if he hadn't left the pits on the red light, he would've been faaaar behind his lead).
