I'm not going to give any guidelines in this thread, it's entirely up to you. When you think 'badass', what car(s) come to mind? It can be based on looks, size, sound, elegance, anything. Road car, race car, concept car, whatever you want.

Post one or a few, doesn't matter to me.

Personally, the simply the sound of the BRM V16 makes this car inherently immense. It doesn't open doors, it kicks them down.

The BRM V16 -

A few more that come to mind -

The legendary Mazda 787b.

The TVR Speed 12.

I'll concede I don't know the exact name of this car, but I think it's an E39. It's a BMW hillclimb car, that much is obvious.

And finally a Porsche GT1. It's an enormous picture so I'll put it in a link -

I have a few more but that's enough from me. Yours?

I'm pretty sure I'm just forgetting a lot of cars, but I think the TVR Speed 12 pretty much does it. Alone that fact that it was more or less banned from public roads because it was too dangerous is as badass as it gets. Then, it basically was an epic N/A 7.7l 800+bhp V12 shoehorned into a superlight 1000 kg shell. It was as rough, loud and hard to drive as it gets with a roadcar.

The BMW's an E36, apparently used to be a 320 until the engine was swapped to a Judd V8. Driven by Georg Plasa.

As for my choice, I'm not a huge fan of American cars, but this is what I think of as badass: Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake. Though a regular Cobra 427 is badass too.

And for something more teutonic... Porsche 911 Carrera RSR ^^

I hope this isn't meant to reach a conclusion of the all time baddest car, but on the comments of banned from the road for being too fast:
Back in 1972 Australia had a very real "supercar scare" as it is known. Holden and Ford began work on the XU2 Torana and GTHO Phase IV Falcon, as homologation specials to the Great Race. They were said to be capable of 300km/hr, road legal, and back in 1972! The government and general public were extremely worried about these supercars, and so Holden and Ford stopped development. A couple of Phase IVs were built, but obviously never sold, and from what I've read, the 2 XU2s ever built were stripped, with the shells used for XU-1s and the engines put in Bathurst Monaros.

Edit: Also, the Camaro ZL1, 7.0L V8. It was rated at just 430hp, and was actually producing well over 500hp. Less than a hundred were built, and they were faassst.

Weineck Cobra linky
Peak Power: 1100hp @ 7000rpm

(the engine delivers its world record torque of 1,760 Nm at 5,600rpm)

*coughs*

1760 nM is 1300 ft-lbs of torque, and power will ALWAYS be higher than torque at any given RPM above 5252. Soooooo...

You know, just about all muscle cars are the definition of bad-ass, but perhaps this one is the baddest of them all:
1965 Ford Galaxie Cammer
Using a SOHC 7.0L V8 it was rated at an Earth shattering !675hp!
Quoted by Wiki
Though not documented, it is believed a few may have found their way onto the street (this engine was only available to racers through the dealer network or from the manufacturer; none were ever factory installed). Rated at over 600 hp (447 kW), this is possibly the most powerful engine ever fitted to a production car by an American manufacturer. NASCAR changed the rules, however, requiring thousands (rather than hundreds) of production examples in service to qualify for the next season, and Ford decided against producing the Cammer in that quantity. Fears of liability concerns and the bad publicity possibilities in giving the public a car that dangerously powerful are often cited as reasons, but it might simply have been that Ford doubted that an engine so unsuited to street use could sell in such numbers.
Note, not actual car shown, same model year

A couple of Phase IVs were built, but obviously never sold,

Four were built and Four were sold but there is only 1 true Phase IV

Falcon 1-
XA-1 Chassis Number JG33MC76429K
This car was the only one of the three race prototypes that had its race preperation completed by FSV and even got to the stage of being Track Tested by John Wynne before the project was axed. It was earmarked for Alan Moffat for Bathurst 1972.
Owned by Keith Goodwall, then sold to current owner David Bowden

Falcon 2-
XA-2 Chassis Number JG33MC78488K
This car was for Fred Gibson. It ended up rallying for Bruce Hodgson and was destroyed by a commodore towing a caravan.

Falcon 3-
XA-3 Chassis Number JG33MC78489K
Went to McLeod Ford/John Goss before passing through a variety of owners before being purchased by Ford Enthusiast Paul Carthew

Falcon 4-
XA-4 Chassis Number JG33MC830054K
The lone-pre-production road car that went down the aseembly line and was fitted with a GT-HO compliance plate. Also passed through a succesion of owners. It has been owned for a number of years by a Sydney-based collector.

Bad-ass looks go to any of Rauh Welt's creations in my book. Even if the S15 does look like an angry cat.

Here's hoping he gets his hands on a Skyline R35!

But then again, this car is so bad-ass it doesn't even have headlights...

I don't see how a supercar can be called bad-ass, lethal maybe........
I'm sorry, but the only car that even qualifies as bad-ass to me is going to be a muscle car.:p

Edit: While I'm at it, in the early '70s Valiant Chrysler of Australia set out to create the fastest 6 cylinder road car in the world, and they ended up with the 1972 Valiant Charger R/T E49 - "Six-Pack", packing a Hemi straight 6 it produced ~230kw/300hp, in 1972! Even more astounding, despite only having (I think it was 3 gears), due to its light weight, it accelerate to 100km/hr in just 5.4sec! Can you imagine, this car/engine was uniquely Australian, and even to this day would be one of the fastest accelerating N/A 6cylinder engines in the world. If that's not bad-ass, then what the hell is?

I'll get the obvious out of the way:

McLaren F1 in whatever variant. Unlike the Veyron, it held the top speed record and had racing heritage.

Ford RS200 E2: Don't think picture is an EVO but you get the point. 0-60 in the 2 second range, well over 600hp

That looks kinda similar to one I saw at Irvine?
It's built off the SE30s you saw. The Jota version basically kicks up the power, and was meant as a Homologation special for Lamborghini to enter into motorsport, but it never went all the way through.

good point! seems they were a bit "optimistic" with their figures.
My bet is that there has been a confusion with the units on the way from the factory to the article, if the 1300 was the Nm figure it would mean 960 lb/ft and match quite nicely.

I agree on that Rover 400, you know, once I saw one driving at 41MPH in a 40 Zone!

I almost had a heart attack. I mess myself whenever I see one of those in the rear view mirror.

Well, Big motor shoehorned into little car is always good. Cobras are definitely that...but...

i think we are trying to keep it with production cars...otherwise i would fill this with rat rods :p

I agree, tuner and race cars dont count here, those aren't "production" (but those primer black Porsche and Silvia ARE bad-ass)

So, for my money, I give you:

I dont think there has been a baddest-ass car coming out of Detroit than this thing. Incredibly tunneable, and you know... Darth Vader!!!

I have a friend who has one of those. From what I've heard, the car is insane. That's probably the best nomination for this thread.

That instantly came to mind, actually.
