What do you find the most exciting motorsport nowadays? Here's a few of my favorites.

1. GP2 Championship
2. MotoGP
3. Formula 1
4. American Le Mans Series
5. Speed GT Championship

Some of the best races this year were Hungaroring GP (F1), Estoril GP (MotoGP), Hockenheim (GP2), Indianapolis 500 (IRL) that I watched. I like F1 the most simply because I know all the drivers and I know what's going and I can closely follow and all that, and that doesn't apply to me for MotoGP or GP2 or so on (though I've gotten acquitanted with drivers from GP2 and MotoGP this year).

I don't find WRC that exciting anymore simply because of Sebastien Loeb's domination over the sport.

Formula One is my favourite form of motorsport, and I find it really exciting. That’s followed by the Champ Car World Series, WRC, and MotoGP. I liked A1 last year, but we don’t get any coverage this year on free-to-air TV.

Forgot to mention that all the other sports I didn't talk about, simply don't get them here so I can't comment on them. No BTCC, V8 Supercars, SuperGT etc. coverage.

I can´t really say I have a favorite motorsport, since I follow F1, GP2, DTM, ChampCar, WTCC, MotoGP, FIA GT (as much as possible, no tv-time this year :() and WRC. On occasion I also take a peak at STCC, V8 Supercars, LMS, ALMS, SuperGT and even NASCAR.
If I had to pick one, it would be F1.

ISMA Supermodifieds, Ohio All-Star Circuit of Champions 410 sprints, 305 Sprint Asphalt Series, PRA Big Car Series, Whelen Tour Modifieds, DIRT big block modifieds at Syracuse, USAC Midgets, Main Event late model series, and I haven't even gone over a mile yet!

What can I say, I enjoy a good race of any kind, from SCCA C Sports Van Diemens and Ralts all the way up to Schumi's last charge and Hornish snaking Andretti on turn 4.

I've never been a huge oval guy. My affiliation with ovals has always been; I accept that they are/should be part of an American open-wheel racing calendar because history dictates so. American open-wheel, heck American racing is based on dirt ovals at county fairs about a century ago... and to this day, guys going out Friday and Saturday nights with their Frankenstein looking short track cars be they open-wheel or taxicab, er that is NASCAR wannabes. So, because of my affiliation with motorsports I voted for the series I have greatest exposure to, who; 1)product is real RACING 2)I can fairly confidently say the officials aren't going 360 with rules changes on every year, 3)who provide close, fast, racing 4)in a relatively familiar environment for my sakes. I voted Speed World Challenge GT (TC is just as good!). In my opinion, World Challenge racing should be considered among the pinnacle of racing in North America if not the world.

I've got to say Moto GP - the quality of the actual racing is just so much better than anything else. I will watch any motorsport on TV when it's on. I follow F1, GP2, A1GP, ALMS, FIA GT, LMS, WTCC, BTCC, DTM, V8 Supercars, Kiwi Supercars, Super GT, Nextel Cup, Champ Cars, Grand-Am, Trans-Am, Seat Cupra Cup, British F3, World Series by Renault, Moto GP, World Superbikes, British Superbikes, AMA Superbike - off the top of my head. But Moto GP supplies the best racing of any of them.

I'm a big fan of F1, V8 Supercars, Carrera Cup and MotoGP. I had to vote for MotoGP in the poll. MotoGP just has some damn good quality racing.

Well I voted other for Drag Racing but I'm probably alone...

Of the top sports, MotoGp was fantastic this season.

Reason for Drag Racing?

The peak of engineering, unbelievable stuff, within 0.5 seconds you'd be breaking the national speed limit. When watching (on TV it's ok but mediocre compared to live) it almost looks unreal (quite literally) when they accelerate.

I'm voting MotoGP.

Why? Just look at this season's two last races...
Yea the race at Estoril was actually ridiculous. As much as MotoGP is exciting though, I happened to vote for GP2. At the moment (this year anyway) I thought that was the best, but MotoGP close second.

All the moto gp love in here is awsome. The season was a fantastic one. It was the perfect example of how consisticy will win you a championship. Nicky didn't win many races but scored in nearly every race...no thanks to danny p near the end.:scared:

Speed GT and, by extension, Touring Car. Why? Simple: Real production cars with wide varieties of engine and drivetrain configurations, standing starts, factory-backed teams and drivers going door to door with privateers and frantic 45-minute sprint format, all on some of North America's best road and street courses. World Challenge FTW! :D 👍

I can't really vote as I haven't caught so much motorsport the in the last year. However, A1GP, WRC and BTCC have always had something semi-interesting going on whenever I've tuned in. Sadly, I can't say the same for F1.

But no Dutch Supercars? Shame on you :D

You think A1 is better than F1? the standard of drivers in A1 is shocking, I remember I think it was the Pakistani driver spun it on the entrance to the pits at Vandoort, the driving quality is very poor at best.

From the few A1GPs I've watched so far, they were all chaos for the most part. More like competition for which team is the most civilized than actual racing. You want good open wheel racing, take a look at GP2. Can't wait for next season.

Yeh, in terms of GP2s coverages, what is it? I get confused between ITV and Eurosport.

Erm, I'm in north america, so only SpeedTV here. Speed showed every single GP2 race this year (usually in the very early Sunday morning), so I just record them and then watch them later. Don't know about ITV or Eurosport, don't get them here.

WRC for sure I think. Something about narrow roads, fast cars, and certainly insane drivers that I like :D

Ah ok :dunce:

Rally drivers are phenomenal, the Acropilis rally is incredible, within centimetres of peoples houses.

Keep in mind this list is ranked upon which I see as the most exciting, not the best overall. If I were to give a list of my favoite motorsport to watch the list would be totally different.

1. IRL - Why IRL? Close racing and finishes. I have grown to dislike it a bit because I believe it has become far too dangerous and it is a miracle more drivers have not been killed. Although I'm not its biggest fan, the IRL has to be considered the most exiciting form of racing today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP6oPwZ502k&mode=related&search=

2. ALMS - The large varitey of awesome looking cars that vary greatly in horsepower, weight etc plays a huge roll. Also very competitive.

3. NASCAR - If NASCAR was a 16 race schedule and the 16 races were the 16 best tracks that produced the best racing in NASCAR it would be #1 on my list, but the schedule is 36 races and alot of the tracks NASCAR visits produce dull racing so it ends up here at #3.

4. Formula 1 - Formula 1 is ranked low because far too often someone will jump out to a 30 second lead real quick and when it becomes obvious who is going to win the television channel is changed. 16 (17?) grand prix this year and Im sure Alonso or Schumacher won at least 12 of them together. It's sad that sometimes the highlight of some races is one car beating another car out of pitlane. How many passes for the lead are there a year? Very few. And far too often when they do pass it looks like it had more to do with the car's horsepower or tire manufacturer rather then skill.

Moto GP - I don't follow this enough so no comment. The races I have watched were entertaining

Umm...this poll is getting a little too broad in scope don't ya think? Why not ad lawnmower racing, monster truck car crushing and tractor pulls while your at it...shhhhheeuuuu dooogggeeeyy

Well, this year I have followed (as in watched on TV), ranked in order of excitement:

GP2
WTCC
BTCC
NASCAR Nextel Cup
F1
IRL
ChampCar
Porsche Carrera Cup
Aussie V8
WRC
FIA GT

I really miss my GP Sundays, watching the Porsches and GP2 in the morning, followed by the F1 in the afternoon.

I have really enjoyed both seasons of GP2: somehow the formula is incredibly right. The WTCC and BTCC I admit to having a personal interest in: I've known Matt Neal for years, and I've always followed Andy Priaulx since drunkenly abusing one of his sponsors in 2000!

NASCAR Nextel I've really grown to enjoy. I seem to have developed an understanding of it, and what's happening. I've been kinda following Kasey Kahne (for no readily apparent reason), and since he's had an all/nothing season, it's been very intense. I'll almost certainly switch allegiance to Montoya next year though. Now Kahne is effectively out of the Chase I think I want Kenseth to win: that guy is amazing. But I'm stunned by the level of general crowd support Dale Jr has.

Giles, you picked well with Kasey. He's good people - used to race locally with the Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions 410 sprint series, and was a frequent open wheel competitor up and down the midwest.

I'll tell you what, I first met him at Attica Raceway Park about 5 years ago, and he's a pretty shy, softspoken fellow. Good guy, though, and a helluva wheelman. That running at the top of the track he always does in Cup is something he honed at tracks like Syracuse, Eldora, and the Indiana State Fairgrounds, used to ride the cushion flat-out the whole way around the track.

Seriously, as entertaining as it is to see Kasey mixing it up in Cup and then trying his damnedest to dash away from the cameras, he's even more dynamite to see in a sprinter or Silver Crown (now PRA Big Car) open wheel machine.

@ Giles: I don't watch a lot of the events listed in your post as we don't get them here (and if we do it is in tiny doses.) However, my experiences with GP2 seem to be the same as yours. Very interesting series and proof that spec racing is the way to get the best action. Again, you'll have to excuse me as I don't get much of the Aussie V8's but the impression I get from a lot of Aussies is that V8 racing is tops. No need to defend your opinion, it is your opinion, I respect it and am in no position to say otherwise. Just interested in it being so low down on the list. If you would care to elaborate that would be cool but no pressure.

See you around,

I voted V8 Supercars, but I must add a must-watch series.

CORR Off-Road Racing, its great, slam-bang dirt racing, with supercross style jumps, and some pretty trick machines, always put on a good show.

Well, not all spec series produce great racing. GP2's predecessor, F3000, was dreadfully dull. Actually, I think that "optimisation" kills racing. But that's a philosophical debate for another day.

Why did I vote V8 Supercars so low down? Well, firstly, I just don't find the races that exciting: I've watched most of this season, and it seems that it's fairly difficult to overtake at the front of the field. There's usually loads of overtaking at the back, but the leaders tend to follow line-astern until one of them makes a mistake. I saw a couple of races live when I was at the 2003 Aussie GP, and - first corner mayhem aside - they were not exciting to watch. The cars also seem to be fairly agricultural: have you seen how much smoke they put out under full throttle? And I do mean smoke. You don't see Nextel Cup cars smoking, and they're not even fuel-injected!

The points system kills V8s. There is too much emphisis placed on finishing the race, and there is very little reward for making a pass. In races where you can get over 100 points for finishing in the top 8, it’s not worth risking a pass to grab a few more points.

The numbers are also way too big, seeing a gap of 70 points from first to second is insane. I can barely follow the points race, I’d hate to think how confusing it would be for the people who watch it every now and then.

Points system kills what could be a very exciting series. Bathurst makes up for all of that, though. :D
