Most Useless Things in GT4

Alright, maybe not totally useless to everyone then...but not as "good" as it would be if they remember cars do eventually stop when out of gas and tyres aren't invincible...only then will they become useful in my eyes...

And that's the fun part about it.

it may be fun but with limited smoke i find it boring. maybe if they made so the tire smoke could actually add up into a huge cloud of smoke like in real life and have it come of the tires the way it actually does

I've got no problems with the tire wear but like Spike mentioned, the fuel wear is dumb.

You can run out of gas but never go slower then 80 km/h, even with no single drop of gas?

I've got a dozen or more concept cars (which I don't care about anyway) clogging up my garage, but I refuse to sell them because you get no benefit, and many of them can't be re-won.

Yeah, I'm hearing ya'. These Concept Cars and cars you can't quite use take up way too much garage space. That's why I agree with the people who post that the Garage needs to be improved in GT5. I think I read somewhere where you can walk into your garage and 'see' all of your racecars; then walk into another section to 'see' your favorite street cars and so on.
Other than that, there's really not much in GT4 that I find worthless. Yeah, the car wash is kinda' annoying--you know, watching your car spin around then you see two blokes not doing a good job of wiping it off. I almost want to make 'em do it again. "That looks like crap fellas. Do it again!"
The Oil change is right up there too. But ya' gotta' do it. Just knowing that my cars will run better gives me the patience to sit through the animation.

But Photomode is awesome!! It adds a whole new dimension to re-plays. You snap the picture during a race and you say, "That's me kicking the AC 427's ass in a Mazda Miata!"

Autosave is not a "feature" that they put into GT4 by choice - it's a patch to make up for the fact that GT4 is pushing the PS2 a little past its limits.

Call it what you will it is still pointless if it can corrupt your data when the event it should protect against occurs (sudden power loss).

If it saved to a temp file that you have an option to access when you start back up that would be fine. That way if it is corrupted you can still reload all your old data.

No matter what it's intent or purpose it is useless if it can essentially ruin the game.

My opinion only.

The wheel shop. It does absolutely nothing for your car. As far as appearances go, my opinion, the best looking car is the first one across the finish line.

The delays at the start of the one lap magic driving missions are pretty useless too.

As for the car wash, whatever, my comment about wheels applies. However, if you want a chuckle, take your '54 Mercedes Gullwing coupe to the car wash some time.

I could live with the 5 second penalties if I only got them from my own mistakes. But when the AI torpedoes me and *I* get the penalty, yeah, that's pure aggravation. Particularly on the "hard" events where the AI slams into the side of you right off the starting line.

Cars like the Nike One. Totally useless, and any high school physics student could poke big, gaping holes in the story behind it.

Are there any AWD LeMans' cars. I doubt it. And even so, those LM racers are limited in ride height. Since some rally stages require dirt tires or snow tires, I'm fairly certain no LM car offers those types of tires. I would have liked to try an LM car at a rally, but i think they have far too much HP to be transferred to slippery stuff. Some of the high-HP rally cars are hard enough to control. I'm sure true rally cars are useful (like I should be talking, as a guy that used the Dodge RAM truck to ace all the rallies).

When you buy a car, the game instantly autosaves as soon as you get into it. Then you find out you hate the car - but you've wasted the cash, and you're stuck with the car.

Yeah thats true i think they should do something like in Midnight Club 3 how they let you test drive the car before you buy it like you have the choice to test drive it then buy it or just buy it lol

How could more cars or more spoilers be a useless thing? I like to have more choices for rear wings or cars.

And what about the rolling start? Useless? You know many racing series use a rolling start..

The cones are funny, useless but funny.

It seems like some people here dont like multiple choices at cars or features.
PD should make a game with one car which has 1 gear, with one rear wing and one track.

what i would like to see is some crash graffics. my dad was talking to me and he said "are you able to flip over and do barrell roles and catch on fire" which started an argument that i won. basically what i said is how in the hell are you going to create crash graphics for close to a million cars (guestimating)(maybe a little exageration) before the life of the actual system its for is over.

also the special rims need to stay in my opinion. the only thing is that they need take out the ugly rims and maybe make some unique ones. and maybe be able to change rim size, but then every little wigger would be putting 24's on a car meant to go up to 18's at the most. ya maybe not. im sorta from the need for speed crowd, i play underground 2 and there is so many wiggers and tokyo drift, 2fast 2furious posers who think theyre the best. wouldn't want them comin over into xlink.

I, with the help of my best friend, just lowered my winning percentage about 3.5% just to beat one race.... We were attempting to win the Escudo. The first race my buddy did in about 4 tries with a bone stock Lancia rally against the AI driven Lancia. Oh this is on *something* on the Rocks' course, it's the rally course inside El Capitan.

So anyways, One race down no big deal. Now came the second race, 5 laps again, but now same track but reverse. My friend tried against the WRX and the Lancer and just got frustrated(5 second penalties had a part in that).

He left and I took the horn. I tried a couple times against the Lancer and when I was holding my own I'd get penalized by no fault of mine, the AI is just on a rail and smacks into you getting YOU penalized as he blows by! 🤬

Finally I broke down and bought NOS. Then when I went back to the race i got the Lancia AI car! That made me feel a lot better. However, the 5 second penalty monster was there everytime I was doing well and not making mistakes myself! Every time I go to pass the 🤬 in a turn he'd ram me and I'd get penalized. Or if we were side by side and I just tapped him at a slight angle i'd get penalized. Well, after about 15+ attempts I got the 🤬 🤬

This is what I finally realized at the end though; The person who implemented the 5 second penalty into this game needs to be punched in their 🤬 face. And, If this is how GT wants to do rally than I'd rather them not even attempt it ever again. Real rally is done against TIME! THERE ARE NO OTHER CARS TO BUMP INTO! SO IF YOU PUT ANOTHER CAR ON THE TRACK THERE IS GOING TO BE BUMPING! AND FOR 🤬 SAKE DONT PENALIZE ME FOR HITTING A WALL!!!! HITTING THE WALL IS THE PENALTY FOR BAD DRIVING YOU 🤬 🤬 🤬!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, I guess you feel strongly about this 5-second penalty, then? J/K I feel the same way as you. It's very frustrating when you're trying to pass the AI car and it smacks you into the wall! grumble grumble grumble...

Beyond that, my vote goes towards car washes and oil changes. They just take up time and don't serve much of a purpose, especially since you can't really burn up your engine.

Finally, the last thing that I find aggravating is the cheesy physics engine! The cars seem realistic to a point, but when you bump another car on a straightaway driving 200+ mph, I think it should actually have an effect on the other vehicle.

Once I was doing a JGTC race on Nurburgring, in my Calsonic Skyline, I pull up beside a Takata NSX to overtake, and it pushes me onto the grass and I could'nt brake in time to avoid going into the sand pit.

You are aware that more types of rally events exist than just the WRC?

Rally events held on closed loop circuits and with multipule cars do exist in reality, its called rallycross and normally runs with a grid of six cars.

GT4's rally events are a bizzare mixture of traditional time trail events and rally-cross, personally I don't have an issue with the penatly system too much.

So, basically you're saying bad driving is going down the inside of a corner to make an over taking move (a popular move in motor sports) and then getting rammed by the other car and recieving a 5 second penalty is poor driving? An unfair comment I feel.

The game takes into account, to an extent, the position of the cars when they collide. If it deems the fault to be yours, you'll get a penalty. Unfortunatly the A.I. is crappy and will turn into you even if the corner, in real terms, is 'yours'. The fault is with the quality of the A.I. programing - not the penalty system itself which is fair.

The penalty for bad driving is BAD driving! It's a crappy system as is. Like a said before, the penalty for hitting a wall is, HITTING A WALL! penalizing someone for 5 seconds ontop of their bad mistake is just ludicrous.

And of course your right, it's completely realistic, because everyone knows that all around the world at every race track the tower controls every car and can limit your revs by remote!
