What are the most useless things in Gran Turismo 4 (it can beanything), in your opinion, and why?

I'd say the Today's Special wheels section in GT Auto. I have only used that once, and that was to put some lowrider gold rims on my SST :dunce:. Most of the wheels look plain ugly on most other cars because of the emblems on the hubs.

Another is the oil change animations in GT Auto, because the little guy that changes your oil only does half of the job - you can't change the oil from underneath the car (you have to put more in the engine too, in case you didn't realize that)!

Too many versions of Japanese Performance Cars that are almost the same.
(R34 Skylines).
Having a AWD and a FWD Mazda 6 and not being able to enter them in the appropriate 4WD and FWD races because PD did not list drive train layout in the specifcation table for them.

The fact that we have to wait for the full alotted time before the start of each "1 Lap Magic" driving missions. It's pretty darn annoying to me.

* Engine wear, I mean there is no point for engine wear if you can't reapair or change it.:dunce: Thats totally senseless...:ouch:
* That Skyline overload :crazy:

yeah....i don't really get the point of engine wear because in real life, engine replacements in race cars always happen

Graphical touches like the windsheild wiper on the 787B, when some gameplay touches were taken out (such as adjustable downforce on Lancer Evos).

F'in seconded. My god this is stupid.

I also really don't understand why they didn't enter all the information in the spec tables for all the cars. Why not? Why prevent so many cars from competing? All it does is make the game less fun. There's no benefit at all.

One thing no one has mentioned is how there are some cars some people will NEVER have a chance to drive. Every single car should be unlocked right from the very beginning of the game in Arcade Mode, so that people who can't get a gold in every license test and complete every mission can still drive the Model T, Dome Zero, Tank Car, etc. That's something a lot of games do that bothers me - they lock content and prevent you from accessing it unless you dedicate your life to unlocking it. Arcade Mode should have every car unlocked, no exceptions.

The car wash seems kind of pointless, but it doesn't bother me the way those things do.

It could also do with a few more non-Japanese cars. There are too many Skylines, NSXs, RX-7s, Miatas, and Daihatsus. I don't mind that they included a comprehensive list of cars, but who cares about all the little keicars? Do there really need to be THREE different versions of the Honda Beat, all identical? And if GT4 really is supposed to have a comprehensive library of cars, why are there so few European and American cars? I'm fine with them including a boatload of plain, everyday Japanese cars but why not have plain, everyday American and European cars too?

well i have to disagree with the wheels. most of the best wheels come from there, you just have to sit there a go through the lineups which takes to long. i like to do picture and video work so the special rims are deffinatly important.

carbon driveshaft is useless. i dont notice any real change in my performance after its installed.

Nos. i never really used it and theres no good place to use it other than the 400m.

old japanese cars. i assume because it was made in japan they have alot of old japanese cars but theyre all useless. they have every version of old skyline, who the hell needs those. the real performance is in the newer ones. and a million little honda pos's to. no weight but no power. and im not just hating on japanese cars becasue i love american cars but if they had a new superbird then that would be the better choice. its just who the hell has even heard of the older japanese cars except REAl enthusiasts

this is off topic but i miss gt1 and 2 where you could race modify almost any car.

i definitly agree with luca but there are ways of getting the locked cars for nothing. its called a codebreaker. theres a code on there that makes every locked car purchasable for $1. i kno you dont get the same feeling of accompleshment but who gives a crap. the only grant turismo games ive actually played fully and beat without cheats are gt1 and gt2. 3 i started and got past beginners but then i just said to myself. this is going to take me months. i also wasnt that good at racing then either though.

You dont understand the concept of unlocking or earning things, even in real life you cannot go out and do whatever you want, you have to work for it!
I Really like that unlock thing, and if you can't unlock those cars you shouldn't play GT because you cannot drive a car.💡 Buy Need for speed or something similar, GT is for the pros.

Without unlocking the cars GT would turn into a senseless arcade game and It would get boring after a few hours. And its a amazing feeling unlocking a great car and watch it in you garage. (And driving it of course)

I also love the car wash, its amazing to watch you favourite car getting a bath. :dopey:

some cars have to be unlocked or else the game wouldn't have the fun and excitement of you knowing that you got one of you favorite cars 👍

well if they had a locked 1970 barracuda id spend my life trying to unlock that car nomatter what. i still dont see why they put the 71. the front is so ugly. but anyways your right to. in gt2 id spend all day even in an endurance race either racing my escudo or evo trying to unlock cars. and when i did. especially the dodge concept car (copperhead) lm edition, i felt like i was on top of the world

YES! THANK YOU! That is the thing that really just burns me, 34 different skylines yet no Firebirds!

photomode. Seriously, whats the point? :p

I would say the hundreds of variations of Skylines, I think 5 of each generation is enough-- Mine's, TommyKaira, GTR, Not GTR, and Race.

First off, I'm saying that you should only get access to every car in arcade mode. GT mode is an entirely different story.

But also I don't think it would detract from the enjoyment of the game to have all the cars available in Arcade mode. Some of the challenges are simply too hard for me... I'd still like to work at completing them, but I also want to be able to drive all the cars without having to slave away endlessly.

Also, I did already PAY for the game. I feel I should be able to get at all the content that is on the disc. And I feel the same way about all games, not just GT4. GT4 isn't too hard for me, it's just certain parts that I don't like.

The fact that they have about 7 different race versions of the skyline, supra and other Japanese cars. Oh, and some cars cost WAY too much.

I agree, if EVERY car was instantly available to everyone in arcade mode then nobody would play gt mode, since the main point of the game is to unlock and buy new cars to drive and try out.

What I don't understand is why people complain about too many cars...too many Skylines? How can you have "too many"? There needs to be more of every sports car.

The "today's special" rims are great...I especially like putting Nismo Z-Tune rims on Nissan cars (works especially well on a silver R34 GT-R), for example.

Oil Change, Engine Wear, and Car Wash are all useless wastes of time. The 5 second penalty is useless. The fact that you get an adjustable front splitter with a wing purchase, and you can't even see it, annoys me. The AI is useless.

However, mandatory license tests are absolutely the most useless things in GT. We do them every time a GT comes out...why do we have to retake the stupid #%#@! tests every time? Make them part of an optional tutorial already. If they want to give prizes, then just have more driving missions. Simple.

I would have laughed if you had come from GT3, started playing GT4 and proceeded to lose every single race because of how understeery the GT4 engine is. But otherwise I agree with you. The animations in the car wash and Oil Change are just annoying and make the wait too long (It took, what? A second to do both in GT3? Why must I wait 10 for them to be done in GT4).

I love rally... but it think its useless in gt4...Most people ( i think) find it a burden to have to sit down and drive on a dirt course that feels like ice with melted butter on top(dont ask). They also have to deal with the stupid 5 sec penalty.:yuck:

Also the are dealers with under 5 vehicles. Im pretty sure some of those dealers made more cars than that. Some of the skylines and hondas could have been taken and reaplce with more useful cars.

I don't see the point with the car wash. The car isn't in view when I'm driving it and I don't generally watch the replays. I bought the game to drive the cars, not watch them - I've got a TV for that.

Have to disagree with those who think the Photomode is useless, as are the Used Wheels. Without those two features, I'd find the game very boring.

No my most useless feature was the TCM and ASM that were supposed to make it easier for n00bs. What a way to make it easier, rwd cars that just understeer off the side of the track. Absolutely hated that. Now every car has it turned off, I feel it is finally a good driving game. With ASM and TCM on, it is one of the worst I have ever played.

550/740 Cars are Japanese
Is it a rough approximation or did you actually count them ?
I'm asking the question because I only have 442 japanese cars in my book (which is still a lot, I agree, and probably a too big proportion).

Back on topic :
The most useless things IMO are all these animations like the guy who changes oil, or all the messages on which you have to click while buying new cars or parts or entering races. You can't decently fully upgrade a car in less than 5 minutes, and I wish it were only taking 30 secs. :)

Yes, it was a rough outline, but 442 is still far to many, thats well over half the cars from one country.

Some mentioned before but anyways -

The fact over half the cars are japanese (C'mon Kaz, don't think Japan are the only country to make quality cars)

Those god damn slalom tests... give us the correct view to do the properly, or don't include them at all!

Normal Tyres... seriously other then drifters...who uses them?

Oil/Car Wash animations

The Driving Park... except for the test course I've never voluntarily driven around any of those tracks (outside of races)

Special Cars... where's the fun in being able to do almost nothing with them

Cars with no sale price... Kaz, do you really think if a concept car was for sale in real life, it would have no price tag? C'mon now...at least it's not like it was in GT3 where you weren't allowed to sell them (like that one Honda S2000 I have two of that I can't even sell)

Used Car Lots... change them back to Historic Cars and don't put so many of the damn cars in there.
