I'd have the Mustang, plain and simple. I could even do without the Laguna Seca pack, just to get it in gold and black. The LF-A will never have the soul that these Mustangs come with out of the factory.

Out of all those, I think I would take the Cayman R actually. I never have liked the Boxster, but the Cayman is something else...

Cayman R for me too, though I'm a big fan of the Boxster regardless. On UK roads, the Cayman and Evora would be by far the most usable, and purely thanks to its performance the LFA would be the least usable.

It's also still a ludicrous amount of money for a glorified Toyota. And yes, I'm aware it's well engineered, but it's still a Toyota. And quite an ungainly one from many angles.

Has Motor Trend released the full results of their test yet or is it still being drip-fed onto the internet?

A faster laptime does not automatically mean it's a better driver's car... I think it's interesting, but we can't just judge a car and how fun it is to drive or how rewarding it is to its driver by its lap time.

1M for me. Or GT3RS should I ever win the lottery.

I would take the GT3 any day over all other cars tested so far. To the hell with usability, if I could afford such expensive cars I would have at least a comfortable sleeper for day-to-day driving and would only put the track car where it actually makes sense, the track.

That Corvette is a monster , tons of power, considerably light, awesome NA noise and best of all, a proper stick shift. Well done 'vette. 👍

Not really a Corvette fan, but it really says something when a sub $100k car can beat the overpriced LFA around a track by almost a full 2-seconds.

Edit: And with a proper gear box...

Which would change if the LF-A would have MPSC as the vette does..

Military Personnel Services Corporation?
Midtown Pregnancy Support Center?
Mount Pleasant Swim Club?

Oh.... Michelin Pilot Sport Cups. Lap times are all about the tires!

Well, I don't agree that the antiquated gearbox = proper gearbox. But the Vette is obviously a beast.

Maybe Toyota should stop being cheap and put them on the car? I mean, you've got to pay over $300k for something right?

Still anxiously waiting the 2012 GT-R lap. Saving the best for last it seems. :sly:

Well, I don't agree that the antiquated gearbox = proper gearbox. But the Vette is obviously a beast.

Year after year, the updates have really transformed the car into something fantastic. The updated Tremec gearbox has really helped, along with with the PS2s, and suspension tweaks for the back end.

Tack on the Z07 and Carbon packages, and things get really interesting.

Hard choices here. GT3RS is nioce, 1M coupe is lovely, Boss Stang is a beast. These are my top picks but not in that order.

458 Italia added. Also, I am calling BS on the Vette. The tire guys are going to love this. But there is no way it could have gotten that time without the semi slick tires it has. The Z06, even with the recent adjustments, is not faster than a 458.

Michelin Pilot Sport Cups (on the Z06 Centennial Edition) are Semi-Slick (AKA R-Compound) Race Tires. Tires MAKE or BREAK the lap time.

*edit* per car tire info a few posts down.

Id takepretty much everything there before the mustang.
Likewise, I have to disagree with whoever said the stang has more soul than the LFA... Just on sound and design the lfa owns any mustang. That said, Ive not driven either.

Btw danoff,
Proper gear box

Then again my sti has a manual transmission. :ouch:

I agree that the Vette would be slower than, at least, the three mid-engined cars posted so far without the semis. I don't know if it could keep up with the Porsche, but it would at least be a close call.

But yeah, once you start playing with R-compunds, the point gets lost, really. I remember they said in the video that they were an optional offering. If I was Motortrend I would have left them out of this test, as it was obvious that the difference was going to be immense.

This is what I have on my BMW :D. Impressive that Ferrari can do this on a summer tire.

...a response on the tires:

Thank you for watching our video. Part of the rules of our Best Driver's Car competition is to run the vehicles with the factory set up. The only options that are allowed are ones available from the manufacturer. Equalizing tires, while a nice thought in theory, would only create more problems than it solves as many car manufacturers work hand in glove with the tire companies to develop the specific compounds and tread patterns to meet their needs. Enjoy the rest of the series.

I think it's also about making life good for the customer, and in this case Ferrari has made life quite a bit easier on their customers by using a cheaper tire with decent tread and better wet performance than the 'vette. Regardless of what they say, I think slapping MPSCs on the Ferrari make it the leader.

still a very impressive feat for the Z06 to beat the GT3RS on equal tires, even with better torque power and all.

If I was Motortrend I would have left them out of this test, as it was obvious that the difference was going to be immense.

Chances are GM provided the car as-is and they didn't have a choice.

Yeah, and besides, after watching the tire comparisson Bottoz just posted, it's evident that other cars were on R-compunds too, not just the Z06 and Porsche as I thought. That makes it all the more even. And the Vette's top time all that more amazing... thouggh I wonder what the Italia and LFA would do on R-comps too.

I wanna see a 2012 Nissan GTR, I wonder where that would end up.

Nissan GTR added. I am calling BS on the Z06's time.

why are you calling BS? Just because you have AWD doesn't mean your always gonna dominate and this is coming from a Subaru guy lol
