I am interested to know what actually happened to the Ferrari for years already

What happened with the front ?

From the forum thread link that Danny just posted:

Autosport
Ferrari is investigating why one of its F399 chassis tore in half during an accident in a historic race at Laguna Seca in the United States. Technical director Ross Brawn said: “We have got the car back at the factory and we are looking at it. Although it’s the same model as the one Michael had his accident in [at Silverstone in 1999], it’s a very different sort of accident. In Michael’s he had a front impact and the wheel came back into the cockpit and that’s what broke his leg. With this one – as far as I understand – the car went backwards into a barrier and the wheel became stuck in the barrier as the car spun around it, putting a tensile load on the car.” The ’99 Ferrari was torn in half.

That was really strange, looked like a really clean cut! Could it be a manufacturing fault? I thought the tub was built in one piece and should be strong enough. He's lucky to have escaped with his legs still functioning well...

Wait, that was Engstler right?

They were teammates. Darn, I must be sleepy. Regardless, I guess the whole BMW team has bad luck.

To be honest, though, I still dislike that crash.. It seemed all too convenient, that a Chevy pace car would take out the only BMW between a Chevy top-3, or whatever ended up happening. Foul play? I think so.

Edit: It's official, watching the video again. BMW, as a whole, needs to stay away from Pau. Oh, and I was right; Engstler was the one who hit the safety car, so I was wrong about that, but Farfus, I believe, was still damaged/DNF'd that race.

Engstler and Farfus weren't team mate actually, although they drive a BMW. Haha! And I'll be honest too, I have always thought Chevrolet played foul. Remember Okayama 2010 when BMW were green lighted to use a sequential gearbox? They were disqualified by the stewards when the Chevrolet lodged a report eventhough they were given a green light. It was stupid I tell you..

EDIT: Yeah, I think Farfus had damage to his car during that race. Couldn't remember much but it was a BMW crash fest. Haha!

That moment around 2:30 where he goes through the hay bales and then flicks it immediately right... I don't think I'd have the reflexes to go that fast through there.

Another rally video:

Is it just me, or isn't someone actually screaming "woohoo", when the crash... begins?

I looked closely at how he was shifting, & I never saw a stick that can shift either up or down in either direction. How does that actually work?

It's called an H-Pattern gearbox. You've probably never heard of them.

But seriously. Driving that with a proper manual gearbox  some excellent footwork 👍

Your avatar is going to drive me nuts, speaking of H-patterns. First is forward, second is backwards!:crazy:
Not in my 912  it has the old type-901 5-speed box, and the shift pattern is that dogleg 1st with 2-5 in the H. There's actually a lock-out to go over to 1st, and another lock-out to go up to reverse  so it's really weird when you first try it.

It took a little getting used to at first, and it still throws me off going between that and other cars that have normal 5-speed patterns, but I see the appeal of it. Keeps the gears you actually use in an easy pattern.

I figured so. Looking at it again the stick moved a bit to the right as he up-shifted. I guess he did it so flawlessly I must've missed it.
