That caught me out..

Scary 🤬

Start watching at :49 is what he means. So you don't have to watch the whole thing...

@Bopop4: I saw it as well.

But I do feel that the driver with his helmet would probably not have seen it, especially if he had tunnel vision at that moment. Scary stuff, I'm glad no one was hurt :nervous:

@Mattythedog. Ah ok, thanks.

And I've had that happen to me in karting, crew tried to signal from the pits but there was no way that I was going to see them.

What I noticed in that video is that even at the last second he didn't even try to avoid the other guy.

The answer to that video is to watch what he does at :55. He ducks down behind the steering wheel to reduce the drag from his helmet.
Only problem with that is he reduces his visibility doing so - his visor is directly in line with the top of his wheel, leaving him peering over the top. Presumably he dropped low enough so he could see the top the guy in front's helmet and follow him - assuming that if he follows him he is ok.

Thats why he didn't see it coming. Tunnel vision? More like horse blinkers!

Horse's have them to bring on tunnel vision so the follow the course and don't go off it.

All comes back round to tunnel vision.

Saying it was tunnel vision though suggests that he was just too focused but could have seen it.
But I don't think he was just too focused - he genuinely couldn't see because he put his eye-line below the steering wheel.

That was clearly the fault, from the kart that entered the track out of the pit lane :grumpy:

Not so. If you look at the kart driver in the on board shot, he has his head tucked down behind the wheel. In effect he's not looking where he's going.

Here's a good WTF moment from the Detriot Grand-Am race. With an hour left on the clock, the Sun Trust boys had the race in the bag when they pitting in for their final stop...only to have it shattered on the exit of pit lane. Clip starts at 2:13.

They really did have the race, too. The lead they had was immense. If they hadn't crashed exiting pit lane, it would've been a victory for 'em. Don't forget the Debut of Indy is Friday.

(BONUS WTF clip at 4:11 when Westbrook gets a little to aggressive while in the lead, runs into a GT car and takes himself out of the race. So, too leaders taken out by being too aggressive.)

Go to any karting place and you will be told to check for traffic before exiting the pit lane. That guy clearly did not do that.

Just goes to show how easily the outcome of a race can change.

Well actually you can see in the video shortly before the impact that he is looking for traffic.
Its just he was doing it while he was driving on to the racing line.

To be honest, its both parties' fault, the guy leaving the pits for not being more careful before entering the track and the guy he crashed with for dipping so far behind his wheel that he compromised his vision at a critical section of the track.

The climactic, tragic end to the 24 hours of Nurburgring 2012.

We’ve already reported on the dramatic finish to yesterday’s Nürburgring 24 hour race which saw the #11 Manthey Porsche crashed into by the #169 Renault Clio. The incident happened with just seconds remaining on the 24 hour countdown.

However, as the winning car was still some 30 seconds away the race was not officially over. It’s being speculated that the Porsche driver was concerned he would run out of fuel and so pulled to the side of the track. It had been in a battle for third place, but as the car was unable to officially cross the line under its own steam it registers as a DNF.

Unfortunately the news is just as bad for the Clio. It was leading its class at the time and only needed to complete one more lap to make that position official. Instead both cars effectively raced for the 24 hours but left with nothing more than an expensive repair bill.

Here's a good WTF moment from the Grand-Am Indy race. Who passes on the outside on a Speedway Corner? Well, a greedy and aggressive Memo Rohas, for one:

Seriously, what was Memo thinking?

I can't find the video, but when the Porsche caught fire at the Six Hours of the Glen, one of the corner workers tried opening the "hood" of the Porsche to put out the fire. It was pretty funny.

 You're right.
Maybe it's like Burnout 3, when the cars speed up going into the crash.

And I think that this qualifies as OMG/WTF.
Near the middle and the end is where it gets good, and the food is being used as ammo.
