oh well... I've been battling viruses and spyware for the last couple of weeks. I got all of it on my computer and after spending a week at the technician's place (the computer) and a week here at home, where I reinstalled the OS about 4 times (in the end I just deleted everything), it's finally up and running. Hence, I haven't been checking in. In thhose two weeks of no computer, of course, it was all PS2 & GT4 :sly:

Still, good to be back... shoot the next question!

let's see... I googled it and came up with this:

First F3000 Race was held 24 March 1985 at Silverstone, and was won by by Mike Thackwell in a Ralt Cosworth

mustang_4_ever
what year was the closest in lemans 24hour race in history and what cars

this is simple lol
What question did you answer? You can only post a question if you get the previous one right.

mustang_4_ever
ahh terribly sorry :guilty:

no biggie... just wait 'til Yuichi confirms whether the answer is right or wrong, or if someone else answers it right (assuming my answer isn't) and then answer the posted question correctly and you get the go... simple.

Yuichi
Exactamundo, Diego.

Buenísimo! 👍

Alright, I'll ask a "Wastegate-like" question :sly:

Who and when was the last F1 World Champion to sport a mustache?

Nigel Mansell it was... Although JV had a beard at the time, it was like a three-day stub... so your go, Yuichi.

Denis Giraudet, French, won as co-driver to Juha Kankkunen of Finland in 1993.
Didier Auriol and Bernard Occelli won together in 1992. Both French.
Carlos Sainz and Luís Moya won together in 1990. Both Spainish.
Terry Harryman, British, won as co-driver to Ari Vatanen of Finland in 1984.
David Richards, British, won as co-driver to Ari Vatanen of Finland in 1981.
John Davenport, British, won as co-driver to Hannu Mikkola of Finland in 1974.
Henry Liddon, British, won as co-driver to Timo Mäkinen of Finland in 1973.

The name of the rally was changed to the Rally of Finland in 2000.
Markko Märtin of Estonia and Michael Park of Great Britain won in 2003.

I was just happy that I finally got to look at the thread while a question was still open.

This question is inspired by the news that Australian touring car driver Marcos Ambrose is heading state-side next year to run in NASCAR.
How many starts did Australian touring car icon Dick Johnson make in NASCAR and what was his highest finish?

Off the top of my head.

Pironi, Rosberg, Watson, Laffite, Piquet, Prost, Arnoux, Patrese & de Angelis.

Off the top of my head: Pironi, Tambay, Rosberg, Watson, Lauda, Laffite, Piquet, Patrese, de Angelis, Arnoux, Prost and Alboreto. And Ferrari, Williams, McLaren, Renault (sounds familiar so far!), Brabham, Lotus, Ligier and Tyrrell.

1982 was easily the most diverse season as far as race winners go, the champion (Rosberg) only enced up with something like 42 points from around 15 races as all the points were spread around so much.

I'm not sure I got that one right, seeing as how I put Laffite in my list. Now that you mention it I remember that the 1982 Ligier (JS19?) was a disaster, and Laffite who was a championship challenger in 1981 was an also-ran in 1982.

I blame Daan's answer for misleading me on the Laffite issue :D

OK, an easier one then, and slightly Gran Turismo related. Which year was the Nürburgring first opened?

When the FIA performs an impact test on new Formula 1 cars, what is the weight of the mass used for the impact?

Funny fact... the weight of the mass used for impact is supposed to simulate the same weight of another car... but more often than not, the cars impact against other things than cars (mainly walls). Still, the weight of the mass is 780 kgs.

right?

yay!

OK, here we go. The subject is Formula 2, and since the number is "2", it's a two-part question... how ingenious! Anyway,

Since there obviously is no Formula 2 racing nowadays, What replaced Formula 2, and when? (as far as a Formula 2 Championship goes)

Part 2
How many (and which) Formula 2 (World) Champions won the Formula 1 World Championship?

Formula 3000 replaced F2 in 1985.
I don't know about the F2 World Championship but Niki Lauda won the British F2 Championship in 1972. Emerson Fittipaldi won the Brazilian F2 Championship in 1972 and 1971. Jochen Rindt won the British and French F2 Championship in 1967. Jack Brabham won the French F2 Championship in 1966 and 1964. Jim Clark won the French F2 Championship in 1965. Jack Brabham won the F2 Drivers Championship in 1960 and the British F2 Championship 1958. Alberto Ascari won the F2 World Championship in 1953 and 1952. He also won the French F2 Championship in 1952.
There are gaps in my source so thats all i've got.
