Well, that was quite an answer. You went a bit over the top, I'd say, since I asked for F2 World champions, and you provided F2 National champions. But, as it's been common usage here, the question was a trick question. Formula Two never crowned a World Champion, and as you pointed out, many nations had their own national series. However, from 1967 to 1984 a European Championship was conducted in more direct support of Formula 1, and it's the closest there has ever been to a world championship.

However, out of this European Championship, no Formula 2 champion ever won the Formula One Championship...

So finally I get a question to go over the 6-hour mark. Your go, Schrodes.

Well since I couldn't find any reference to an F2 World Championship I thought I'd post as much information I could find on F2 and F1 champions.

What is the maximum capacity allowed for a diesel engine in the "LM"P1 class for 2005?

The maximum displacement for diesel engined "LM"P1 cars is 6000 cubic centimeters or 5500 cubic centimeters if it is turbocharged or supercharged.

Who is asking the next question?

Since no one has asked, I'll do so.

Who (and driving what) won the 1952 Carrera Panamericana and what was so unusual about it?

Back earlier than expected. Doesn't look like I missed much either.
Mercedes-Benz scored a one-two in the Carrera Panamericana of 1952. The German duo of Karl Kling and Hans Klenk won the race in the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing after a collision with a Vulture. These cars had already won the World Sports Car Championship that year. 1952 was the first year there were classes for Sports Cars and Production Cars.

well, welcome back. That's exactly right, the impact with the vulture actually wounded the co-driver... Just wanted to ask a non-F1 question.

Your go

I guess noone's going to answer. There were 3: Paul Frere, Harald Ertl and Naoki Hattori. Well, that's all I know anyway.

Hey, I was going to answer that! I've just been a tad busy, since now I'm working at the pub, so weekends are workdays also... oh well,... who's question is it now?

I just came up with another one. Which driver was in a Trey Parker/Matt Stone (South Park creators) movie? Also name the movie.

That would be Dale Earnhardt, who appeared in BASEketball. Thing is, although the movie is starred by South Park creators, it's not "their" movie per se. It's actually a David Zucker movie. Doesn't Dale play a taxi driver or something in the movie?

Right?

since you asked a movie-related question, I'll second that.

In the movie Grand Prix (1966), actors James Garner and Briand Bedford both wore helmets that were very much alike those of two Formula 1 drivers. Who are those drivers?

James Garner used Chris Amon's helmet, and Brian Bedford used Jacky Stewart's helmet.

I love Google.

Very good Roo. Going a bit deeper in the answer, the only difference with Amon's helmet was that Garner had the kiwi bird on the left of his helmet, wherehas Amon had it on the right.

So now you go ahead and ask the next question.

Ferrari are currently top of the heap in Formula 1. But in what year did Enzo Ferrari have to go begging to Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli when his team nearly went bankrupt?

Off the top of my head... wasn't it the deal in which Fiat acquired 40% of Ferrari, back in 1969? After the deal, Fiat was left in charge of building the Ferrari road cars and Enzo and his crew could focus completely on racing. Actually, the deal is the reason why Ferrari exists today, since Ferrari probably wouldn't have survived the fuel crisis in 1973. So, my answer is 1969... 💡

The Targa Florio race was initially called the Coppa Flrio (Florio Cup), and started out in 1900, being called Targa Florio from 1906. Due to safety concerns, the last race was held in 1973, since race cars with up to 600hp raced through small mountains villages while the people were sitting or standing right next to or even on the road. Now to the question... how long was the first Targa Florio race (1906), and who won it. Extra credit for average speed and how long it took the driver.

It was 277 miles long (3 laps of a 92 mile circuit), won by Alessandro Cagno, at an average speed of 29.06mph, over a period of 9 hours, 32 minutes and 22 seconds. Fastest lap was 2hours, 50 minutes and 10 seconds.

Two teamates both overtook 21 cars to finish first and second in a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Who were they, what car were they driving and what race was it?

Off top of head
John Watson, Niki Lauda, McLaren, Long Beach GP 1982

Pierluigi Martini attained Minardi's best qualifying position. How high up the grid was he, and where was it?
