It was discussed in this thread, I think; the Le Mans disaster. In addition to the car that entered the crowd an engine broke free and, along with other debris, wreaked fatal havoc in the crowd.
Yes, that's right. I don't remember it being mentioned before - my bad. The engine itself, according to historical documents and the actual video footage, decapitated three men on its first landing in the crowd.

You can take the next question unless you think I should try harder.

No worries :)

As it happens I had a topical question in mind;

I am a notable lap time. People initially thought I'd finally happened in 1955 - until the timing was more thoroughly checked. I eventually happened in 1957 - what am I, who made me happen and where?

Is this related to the Isle of Man motorcycle events? Someone in 1955 averaged 99.97 MPH and then in 1957, another rider got 99.99, making it basically the first 100 mph average lap.

Very warm indeed. Just not a long enough answer ;)

Sub-9 minutes on the Nordschleife?

As cold as an Eifel hailstorm :)

Not counting Michael Schumacher's points being disqualified in 1997 amd Pastor Maldlnado's 15th place points finish in 2012. What is the lowest points finish for someone who won a race during the World Championship Season season. Name the drivers as well.

Hint: It happened twoce

Without a shred of fact going into this answer, my gut instinct is to guess that 2 drivers entered and won a non-championship event but didn't compete the remainder of the season. I think the Indy 500 was originally a non-championship Formula 1 event, and would have attracted top drivers for a one off drive.

I wasn't counting Non Championship races. Although one of the two did win the Indy 500, which did count for points for 11 years.

I think this has also been in this thread. Is there a 1/7th points award somewhere in history? It's complicated by drivers who finished 1st/5th in the same race, for example.

EDIT: Ignore me, it's over-exposure to the sun... that was a split for fastest lap points back in the low-res timing days :)

Fisichella in 2003. Got 10pts for winning the Brazilian GP in fluke circumstances and perhaps one other points finish; a 4th place I think. So he'd have had roughly 14pts and probably finished outside the top 10.

Good guess but no.

Both drivers ended up 13th in points at the end of the year.

Ah, Fisichella finished 12th that year. Far too successful then. :P

My other guess would have been Johnny Herbert in 1999 but I don't think he would have finished as low down as 13th.

How many F1 drivers have won their home race?
This doesn't count races like the European GP or the Indy 500, but does include ones like the USA East and West races.

Does Mario Andretti count as American or Italian here?

"I ain't never seen anybody who could drive a banana at 150 mile an hour."

This Nascar quote is in reference to what driver?
