To my knowledge there are 20 cars in this list. So, 18 more to get...

Vauxhall Vectra - Wins: 10 (James Thompson, John Cleland x2, Derek Warwick, Yvan Muller x4, Jason Plato x2) Tom

Peugeot 406 - 1996-1998. Best finish: 2nd, Thruxton/Donington Park 1997 (Tim Harvey) Tom
Volvo 850 GLT - 1994. Best Finish: 5th, Oulton Park/Brands Hatch 1994 (Rickard Rydell & Jan Lammers) nitrorocks

I'm a great fan of Touring cars and, more than often than not, run any Touring cars I find in video games I play. In GT5, for instance, I have two of every DTM vehicle, and obsessively run the 'Ring in them.
As for BTTC, IRL, I wish I had more time to check out the races - I believe the series begins in less than a month. Touring cars run some of my favourite courses.
As for the answers - damn, I'm waiting.
The wildest stab I could take is . . . some car involved with Honda. Or Porsche?
No head for stats like this . . ..

I'll need models and not manufacturers, but I can confirm that Porsche did not race super tourers. Don't think they were ever in the BTCC

Porsche ??? - Did not compete in the BTCC photonrider
Vauxhall Vectra - Wins: 10 (James Thompson, John Cleland x2, Derek Warwick, Yvan Muller x4, Jason Plato x2) Tom

I didn't mean a car specifically - but some Porsche connection. And . . . Aha! You didn't comment on the Honda bit . . . so . . ..
It's in the 'hmmmm' stage now.

Pretty sure James Thompson and even David Leslie won a few races in the Accord.

The Mazda Xedos 9 and Mazda Lantis for sure are on that list, and I'll take a shot in the dark and say the Toyota Carina as well.

The Accord.

You are incorrect sir. Fred is on it. The Accord won races between 1996-2000 across two model generations. And he's correct on the 323F and the Xedos 6, but the Carina II and Carina E did win races.

Honda Accord - Wins: 21 (David Leslie x3, Gabriele Tarquini x4, James Thompson x10, Peter Kox, Tom Kristensen x3) PeterJB

Correct! The unique Volvo 850 SE/GLT was negated by the subsequent aerodynamic changes for 1995.

My knowledge of BTCC and european touring cars from that era is quite limited (it was pretty hard to get information, let alone coverage, up here in Canada back in those days), and the information or coverage you can find of the STC era nowadays is still somewhat sparse...

There was a development RWD Mondeo built by ARE in 1993, but I'm not sure it even made it past the testing days at it was majorly off the pace.

Does not count. They decided to go for FWD so that is what was raced. But a good guess. Not a lot of people will have known that a RWD BTCC Mondeo existed.

Opel Vectra? Peugeot 306i? Alfa Romeo 156?

Correct on 3 counts. 306GTi but I'll give you that. Pug and Alfa from 2000's Class B, and the Opel from Jan Brunstedt's token appearence at Silverstone in 1997.

I'm positive that the first Mondeo to race in the BTCC was rear wheel drive.

I remember reading an Autosport report about it. The jist of it was that a car must use the same drive system as the road car but a four wheel drive version could go either front or rear wheel drive. The article pointed out that the race version had a drive type that no road Mondeo you could buy shared.

Andy Rouse Engineering built both a front wheel drive and a rear wheel drive Mondeo, but they only ever raced the front wheel drive version.

Vauxhall however, did race a RWD Cavalier in 1990 for Chris Hodgetts for evaluative comparison with John Cleland's FWD Cavalier.

Any more cars that did not win a super touring event?

Ford Mondeo?

Bear in mind Alain Menu won the final super touring title in a Mondeo...

And as you can see, two other types of Mondeos won races too. But you've guessed along the right lines. There was one Mondeo style which did not win a race.

First one I'm sure of, second one not so much, 3rd one is a wild guess, seeing how Nissan became successful under the RML banner.

Mitsubishi Lancer
Peugeot 405 Mi16
1st gen Nissan Primera (1991-1994)
