I've been needing a new HDD for a while and today I bought a Maxtor 120gb SATA drive. All I have to do now is mount and format the damn thing.

Here it is, allong with a vauge shot of the rest of my puter.

I thought i'd just post about it here so I could feel special. If I told anyone else, 'oh yeah! I bought a 120gb SATA drive isn't that awesome?' they would probably think i'm a huge race idiot.

Bask in my SATA glory.

I think it's very cool. At least you have a good computer. And here I am surfing on this crap-box.

Maxtor 👎, Western Digital 👍 That guy on the box looks like someone who was in my spanish calss in 10th Grade....

Right on dude....can you setup a SATA RAID configuration with your MOBO? (if you can, you can expect some additional performance increases.... :))

Yeah I can but I only have on SATA drive, so it's set to base at the moment on the motherboard. When I reformat, i'm going to use the two 40gb's in a mirroring configuration on the normal ATA controller.

[edit] Nvm thats an SCSI. [/edit]

Haha, that's awesome.

I should really copy all my stuff across to the drive, but I can't be arsed at the moment.

No, it's SATA.

Those are great for the price. As Pako said, if your motherboard supports it, a sata raid array would be a very good idea, just keep in mind that unless you have a raid 5 array (min. 3 disks) you gain performance while you double the probalility of an hard disk failure (you'll lose what's on both drives if one of them fails).

I was lucky to grab two spare SCSI 160 drives and an Adaptec Raid card at work after we upgraded a few servers, so I've installed my system partition on a raid 0 array (striping) That only makes 36 Gb, but everything's blazing fast now. :D

And here I am on a crappy old 40GB ATA drive. :grumpy:

Well I already have two ATA 40gb's in my machine and a whole load of various size ATA drives that are just lying around. I was going to buy another 512 DDR 4000, but I wanted to buy some other things that wasn't computer hardware. Also I saw they had dual layer DVD burners, i'm gonna have to get me one o those when they get a bit cheaper.

Damn, i've forgotten most of the raid terminology.

Well, I like it, but I'm not so sure about mix-matching drive setups like that.
I wouldn't run SATA and IDEE drives in a setup, but that's just me.

You should think of buying a second hdd of the same type and run a RAID 0 setup (striping), it basically splits the info. over the two drives (making them appear as one with double space), making it much easier to retrieve the info. later on. For games, it takes longer to install, but will increase your FPS by a ton. I'm going to be running a RAID 0 setup on my WD 200gig Caviars. They're liquid and fan cooled. I wonder if that's enough? :D
