Mugen shows off ridiculous, over the top NSX. They might even built it.

I think he is refering to the rediculous intake rather than the system itself.

Well, that isn't what he has said, or implied. He just stated because it isn't aircooled it isn't functional, and then rolled his eyes. You can mount side vents, or underbody ones, but those have other issues as well.

Have I said something like that? Huh?

Actually, I don't think you've said anything that has any value, at this point.

Well, most MR cars need something running up around the roof. Such as this...

well, modern MR sportscars cars usually have something like that on the rear quarter panel but that wouldn't be possible with the NSX. I'm sure mugen will make the existing scoop functional, why wouldn't they?

Well considering this whole thing looks like a JGTC car, why not keep the "questionable" scoop. At 3xxhp (surely its at least got 320?) you could argue whether any of the aero kit is going to help all that much. On the other hand, I know it probably will because it is all intended for a bunch of downforce. The downforce is likely making enough drag that the intake's extra drag is negligible.

There's rumors it's got 380Bhp, but no one is sure & that Mugen will probably have a lot of power coming from this.

Who says this is?

Besides, look at the engine bay.

That's not your standard NSX motor....

@Nissan tuner: This isn't Spoon, this is Mugen.

im sorry but spoon of all people wouldn't leave the engine stock

Here's some of their current NSX engine options

Hah, sorry about that. I guess I wasn't reading that right. I thought it said that the car was only developing 290hp. My mistake.

What other stuff did they strap to it, cause it sounds like you are just talking out your ass now.
Now, what are the rest of the parts?
I never said anything else besides the scoop was tacked on. And I never said that the modifications didn't have a purpose. What I did say was that the modifications done to the NSX GT, regardless of the reasoning behind them, were silly. This:

Technically had a purpose as well. Pretty much the same purpose in fact.
But the reasoning behind the modifications do little to change the fact that none of those over-the-top modifications add anything to the road version.

Revised aerodynamics or not, the NSX GT ceased being "serious" when they started strapping stuff to it that wouldn't look that out of place on a late 90s Grand Prix.

Sorry, I guess you did say strapped instead of tacked on.

Still care to clarify what was strapped on?

I already have. A non-functional ram-air engine scoop.

And we already have gone over that was done for homoglation requirements for JGTC stuff and only a handful were produced. Unlike, say a Pontiac Grand Am or Ford Mustang.

And stuff implies plural, my bad.

Don't worry about it. I worded it kinda iffy.

Road car it is silly, in a sense. But was highly justified and only a dozen were sold. It wasn't exactly a production spec thing to imitate the race version of the car, unlike a lot of USDM vents and scoops.

Fair enough.

Anyways, if Mugen does end up building the RR in limited numbers like NiSMO did with the Z-Tune, I'm wondering what we can expect out of it performance-wise. "How fast can it lap teh 'Ring!?" and whatnot.
@ Reventon: I thought Mugen mostly did appearance/handling/aero packages? They do engine stuff too?

I'd say not much faster than the regular NSX. It doesn't say anything about them doing anything to the suspension, does it? And the engine tuning will probably be mostly used fighting the extra drag from the aero stuff at high speeds.

EDIT: But with a 90 hp boost, it's a bit of a different story.

They have, yes. They were the creators of a powerful Legend V8 that never made it to final production. The thing about this car is why keep the power stock, and yet, make the engine longitudinally mounted with a new transmission?

That's not your standard NSX motor....
That engine is pointed the wrong direction. WTH? I wonder what is hiding under there...

This car is surely for Super GT homoligation purposes, like the NSX-R GT was.

Would that be necessary considering the NSX-R GT already made it homologated? Its not like the NSX is a new car.

Super GT regulations are very lax in respect to how similar to the road-going equivalents the cars actually are. This was so manufacturers didn't have to go through expensive homologation processes.

My inner-fanboy just exploded all over the screen. I'm almost crying in awe of the possibility of a future 'final run' of the NSX Legend. Anything new relating to MR NSX' is great news. :nervous:

Yeah, but how long can they go without actually building the car they are racing?

I'd wager that this Mugen NSX is still much closer to the standard road car than it is the Super GT version which shares very little with what it's based on. I'll grant you that a Audi A4 DTM racer is even more distantly related to a standard A4, but a Super GT NSX is still little more than a nod in a road going NSX's direction. This Mugen is a Super GT 'style' NSX rather than a Super GT NSX for the road.

I know, but I'm just wondering if there are any actual rules surrounding whether the company even needs to build the car.

Mugen wants to move into making their own cars, from what I understand. Thus, they want to take a frame and make as many tweaks as they can.

Of course, you don't really care as your clear bias is shown in the thread title :indiff:

What the hell are you talking about? What bias? Where did I make any judgements surrounding the quality of this car? Where did I say anything negative about it? If I am so against the idea of this car, why did I speak of the concept with awe in my first post? Why did I wonder aloud what its performance may be instead of condemning it based off of assumptions? I apologize if you are still hung up on the fact that I think that the body mods done to this are a bit much, but I was under the assumption that we were done with that discussion.

Most importantly, what does any of that BS you just posted have to do with my question surrounding JGTC rules regarding homologation?

I think it's just spiffy that Mugen wants to use this as a springboard to building their own cars. More power to them, and I wish them better luck than most tuning firms manage. However, when in response to me asking what the rules were surrounding JGTC regulations concerning what cars can be entered, what exactly is the correlation of that statement?

(which, barring massive changes to the engine, they are)
It's not "a bit much." Every piece on the car is completely justified. Sure, you might not like it, but 300hp is more than enough to require aerodynamic modifications.

In short though, yes, they do need to build the car. If they don't build a road going version then they can't use it.

JGTC doesn't exist anymore though, but that rule applies to a lot of different series.

Toronado, you accidentally the entire headline.

But it looks about as ridiculous as the average racer, so I don't see why they wouldn't build it at some point in time.

Insert Size 3 Garamond rant.

Toronado
Wow. Reminds me of that similarly-silly PD-designed NSX LM in GT4 more than anything. Granted, most of that stuff is probably for show (depending on what they did to the engine), but can you imagine what it would be like if they built it?

Right. That whole sentence is awe and positive, aside from the first two thirds of it. Followed by you later posts relating the NSX to a Pontiac Grand Prix or Ford Mustang. Plus the words "ridiculous" and "over the top" also sound positive after reading the rest of your posts in the thread. Excuse me for thinking you have a negative attitude towards this, just going of what I've seen you posting.

The BS I posted had to do with Mugen building the car, which was part of your question as to why they would build the car.

Your entire attitude is nothing but "Oh look, another Japanese rice box car with pointless aero mods." Plus you get irate and angry over just about anything. Lighten up a bit, man.
