Stop hijacking threads.
So Shant, have you happened to try it more than once yet?

"wel,l well, well, mr colton...."

think about this....
you win race and try the x trick... it doesn't work... then you think "oh, i've must done something wrong" and try it again... and at this time you get the car you wanted... and think "yippii! it works!!" and you are satisfied...
and then in next time you do it again and get it "work" at the third time and think again "yippii! it worked again, i just couldn't make it right at the two first times, but it does work!!"

so think what this means... it's randoM!
stupid!!! you got 25 % chance to get what you wan't! 1/4! it's good chance!!

trying to prove it... save before last race in some championship and skip the last one.... and when you win try x thing... and repeat this 10 times... not once but 10 times... then you will see it DOESN'T work!!!

Actually, according to Murphy's Law, you will get the car that you want least most of the time. For example, if you race the Super Speedway Endurance 10 times, you have a >80% chance of ending up with 9 Clio's and a Tickford. :banghead:

After seeing some of the posts in this thread, directed at me personally, I've decided I won't be coming here anymore. I'm pretty shocked at some of the replies I've had just for saying I did this and that on a computer game of all things, how sad is that?

I thought this was the perfect place to discuss GT but I was wrong, and I'm also disappointed. I was hoping that by adding my personal experiences on the game, I might have had some constructive criticism, but instead I've had the piss taken out of me and generally been offended and insulted.

I did not KNOW that PD had released a statement saying that the multiple choice car prizes were offically random - some of us obviously aren't perfect like you, Ving and Injected8706. I'm just a beginner at this game, and once you were newbies too - so get off your high horse and think to yourself for a moment "It's only a game..." Ok?

See ya.

Joey:

No need to be so offended. Honestly most of the comments didn't seem to be too personal (and very tame by internet message board standards). Read some of ving's other posts and realize just how non-serious he is.

It's just that you happened to pick a subject that has been hotly debated, at extremely great length and many times before. So that gets people heated for two reasons: 1) becasue there is a lot of personal opinion on the matter, and 2) because using the Search feature would have brought up a lot of information for you to read and analyze for yourself.

So give it another shot or at least hang out a little and try again later. Don't go away mad.

Very very funny Ving !!

U know what ? I think it'd be easier to just run the race 4 times over then post on this thread - Looks like its gotten some people quite  !!!! LOL !!! :D

Well, before reading this thing, I always thought it was true! The X thing works for me 9 times out of ten - or at least I thought so. But I can understand that this whole thing could have started of as a rumour, and you really do get 25% chance.

I agree with Neon_Duke - it´s a very personal subject. but frankly I would like to agree with the post from BigJamesGTI - Vings joke about the kitty had me belly laughing. I don´t get the last post though from Kideng, nothing of interest to me there.

I´m gonna go home and press x - wish me luck all you fellow believers - I´ll post a result at the end of this week :)

What Lazy said sounds right to me...

If you DON'T get the car you want, you'll say, "Oh, I just missed the timing" which is just an excuse, and you actually did press it on the perfect timing or whatever you want to call it, so you're not counting the times you've actually not got the car you wanted...;)

I never said I was perfect, and I don't own a horse. All I did was respond to what other people had said and none of them were directed at you personally. I haven't had the game that long... less than a year to be exact. As you said, "IT'S ONLY A GAME".... so chill out.

Well here comes the results of my experiments last night.
Cars 1, 2 and 4 are easy to target with the X thang. Car 3 is just a damn shame - it´s out of reach. So - guess which number the Speed 12 is on the Tuscan Challenge - you guessed it - number 3. I never could reliably get number 3 with the x thang, so I gave up - I only saw it once. But I conducted experiments for the others. Car 1 I won 3 times in a row, when trying to. Same for car two - 3 times in a row. Car 4 was more difficult, after 5 attempts, I won it 3 times, but of those 3 times only twice in a row. The other two times I got car number 2. As for the 3rd car - I gave up as I was sick and tired of loading up from the save game and seeing how short I could make the replay. There´s lots of different trophies to win too - I like the plate best with the GT logo in the middle. There´s another one where the winner is sat on a wheel - looks like a mechanic to me! and then there´s the guy who at first sight has something gushing from his waste - some may think it´s a fire extinguisher, some may think it´s a champaign bottle even before the trophie has turned around... and some may not! :p

I hope I don´t get enemies from my experiments with the X Thang.

My experiments so far in doing nothing has turned up:

Car 1 (FTO GPvR): 16 times (32%)
Car 2 (RX-7 RZ): 9 times (18%)
Car 3 (Impreza v6 Wagon): 7 times (12%)
Car 4 (Lancer Evo4 GSR): 18 times (36%)

Out of 50 "attempts". I say "attempts" as I've not actually done anything, and yet managed to up the rate on that Lancer from an expected 25% to more than a third... Must work then... :D

I've got 50 more nothing "attempts" to do, then 100 on each of the alleged methods. Then it's paired t-test time :D

It's wonderful to have a statistician in the house.

Can´t wait for the results.
Famine - can you be trusted - as a non believer and all...!:irked:

Well I´m sure I´ll get my knuckles wrapped for that comment.
Sorry Famine - just a joke. ... please?!?!?:odd:

I got fed up after about 20 reloads, I feel for you if you really are doing this.

Best of Luck.
N.:)

Yes - exactly. I can never reliably get the bottom right one - You just can´t quite see the GT grey disk underneath it. But the top two are easy, and the one to the left, takes some reloads, but usually I can get it. If I want that one right at the bottom - the one I call number 3, I have to do it the 'Lazy' way, not touch the control pad, fingers eyes and legs crossed, and trust in the holy one above.

I think it was gumpy who extensively tested the theory before...

I sure wish someone would figure this out. I'm geting so pi$$ed trying to win the R390 Race Car.

So far, I have raced this stupid race (GT All Stars/ Pro) a total of 17 times. That's right 17!!! Every single time I get the GT-ONE Race car. EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!

I use the 787B and have tried everything. I have...

1) Finished 1st in all races= GT-One Race Car
2) Finished 1st AND lapped ALL cars in ALL races= GT-One Race Car
3) Lost races to keep points close= GT-One Race Car
4) Run "clean" races... not cut corner/wall riding= you guessed it!
5) Smack everything in my way= big surprise!
6) Tried holding the R390 car to 3rd place in points= Not again!!!
7) Spent hours searching this site and tried countless methods
of selecting prize cars= One Mo' Time
8) Quit the series with enough points to win= I GIVE UP!!

While some may feel the "X" method works, others may feel it's "random". I find nothing "random" about this series.
Seems to be tied in somehow with the car you drive, maybe.

For all those who insist it's "random", please explain these results to me.

Please tell me you know about the "Save & Reload" trick...
*ducks*
That way you at least don't have to re-run the series. You do have to reload the last race any number of times, but you don't need to run everything else again.

Well, my thoughts on the topic...
Considering GT3 has been out for 2 years and its popularity, one would think that people would had figured it out already if there is indeed a way to control which car you can get after a championship or an endurance race. I don't think there's a way to conclusively prove either side's arguement. But I am going to conduct an experiment with some degree of methodology.

I have generated 2 sets of 25 random numbers each between 1-4. The first set will be the experimental group, the second the control group. Using the same saved game, I will use the X method for the experimental group and do nothing but wait for the circle to stop for the control group. All 50 sessions will be recorded for later studies (i.e. correlation between trophies and cars, etc, etc, etc, etc) and the mpeg's will be available upon request.

1=Up, 2=Right, 3=Down, 4=Left
The left column is the car I try to get. The right column is the car I got.

A 24% hit rate, I don't think I'll bother with the control group at this point...
