Museum card viewers are about to lose it all!

Duping hasn't had any effect at all on the size of my save file.

I tested this on several accounts, as I first thought that's what caused it.

Browsing the museum however, has caused it quite a bit of enlargement.

EDIT: And it's not just the players you list in your title, it's every one playing this game. Some of us are just going to get there sooner.

And you needed to point this out why? It isn't just "dupers" that are an a greater risk. Are you going to make a thread pointing out that Museum card collectors are about to lose it all? This unfounded disrespect for "dupers" is quite shameful. They do not affect you in any way, let them play the game how they want. I don't duplicate cars to send to other people, but I do buy the multi-million credit cars, send them to a secondary account, reload my save, and send them back. Maybe you should start trying to berate me since I'm doing something so morally reprehensible. Excuse me for not having the time, nor the desire, to get back those millions of credits.

According to this article once your game save file reaches 4165kb it starts not working properly. As of now there is no known fix.

When you reload a gamesave after doing the duping process your gamesave grows significantly as has been documented on GTP by several users.

This is a bug that will eventually haunt us all if its not fixed soon, but dupers I would beware of this first because constant loading and unloading of your game save causes it to grow significantly.

Not sure who this happened to, but it is not correct for me. I back up my save once a day prior to buying 1 expensive car, then reload my save. I've been doing this ever since the ability to back up our saves became available. My save is 932kb. My game save has not grown at all 👍

Edit: I have never looked at the museum cards either.

This bug won't really affect dupers anymore than anyone else, since most of the damage is caused by viewing the museum cards. My save file is over 3400kb and I haven't really duped apart from a couple of cars out of my 700+, I have however viewed the museum cards a lot, it's safe to say I won't be doing that anymore.

Alright well I was misinformed from the last thread I read about duping causing your gamesave to grow. I will edit the thread.

My file recently went of 2000 Kb. I have duplicated cars a fair number of times to send to other people (not trading I hasten to add) and to other accounts. I now have over 900 cars. I think I am safe for the moment. I have only ever viewed the Museum a few times and will not be going there again unless the problem can be fixed.

Damn it, I remembered I was looking at some museum cards just a few days ago.

No wonder my save went from 500kb to about 1200kb.

I am not buying into this Y2K scare thing. Some people have been duping since the last update, well over a month ago. I have been coming to this site since just after the game was released and I see the occasional YLOD/corrupt save thread, but it has not been increasing in frequency.

(I have not been duping or viewing Museum cards, so I am not worried at all).

that is one of the biggest myths floating around here right now. The save file DOES NOT grow after you copy it. The file is always going to appear bigger on the flash drive, but when you copy it back onto the ps3 hdd it will still be the same size as when you last copied it onto the flash drive.

example: save file is 780kb on ps3 hdd. copy it onto flash drive and it says it's 820kb. copy it back onto the ps3 and the file size is 780kb again

and the part about just loading up the game will increase the save file size is false too. As long as you don't view museum cards or buy cars or items, the file does not grow. you can play arcade mode as long as you want and the file will not increase.

This is really bad news for us offline players, since we can't get access to any updates that may fix this issue. So this time next year, I may not be able to play my save game? That's just flaming brilliant, thanks PD, I'm putting in all this work, golding special events, grinding indy, etc. to get the cars I want and I'm going to lose it all eventually. I may as well not bother. I thought they'd have tested the game properly, but obviously they didn't.

Sorry if this post appears to be very negative but I'm annoyed that PD didn't test for these things.

Well you won't have museum cards so it will take a whole lot longer to effect you, you probably won't play the game long enough to run into any problems.

Hopefully it won't, but if it does then I'll be annoyed. Oh well, I'll just take my chances and enjoy the game while it lasts.

Exactly. That is because of file system used by the PS3 is more efficient than that used by Pen Drives in general. These use FAT32, while PS3 seems to use NTFS (or anything else as efficient as it or more). I don't know how to explain this well, but basically in FAT32, files must have size multiple of something.

Say, if it was multiple of 16kb, this would mean that files, regardless of their "real" size, would be rounded to the highest multiple of 16kb. If your save was 16kb and you backed it up to a Pen Drive, there it would occupy 16kb. However, if it was 17kb, when backed up it would occupy 32kb!

Good news is, this doesn't add up to the real size of the file. When you put that now-32kb save back in your PS3, it will go on to occupy only 17kb again, so no worries there!

Btw, this is not the real multiple in FAT32. Can't remember what it is, if you're really interested, read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table#FAT32

Ia there a magic number of how big the save file will get before implosion? I've been keeping a database on the museum cards, so I view them everyday. My last savefile was around 3.15 megs.

4165kb is the limit.

I suggest you to stop viewing the museum cards until a fix comes.

For what it's worth, my save data is like ~ 780 kb. I checked it when this storm blew in just to be safe. I have over 200 cars, hundreds of replays and pix saved. I've reloaded my game data dozens of times, so that's definitely not an issue.

I have viewed 1 museum card since November 24, browsed in the museum a little on that occasion and have not returned since. Definitely won't go there now!
