You know it, because after he left The Stone Roses, Paul Monsey (sp?) said that Primal Scream was one of 3 bands he would have drummed for - the other two being The Jesus and Mary Chain and the other being Oasis.

"American Pie" is generally thought to be about the death of [/b]Buddy Holly[/b].

"Refugee"..... hrm, now that's a tough one. I know the answer but it is buried in the fog.

Greg Kihn? Ummm, no. The other one. I'll move on with another question soon, but I want those soul points.

Edit: Wait a minute, "Refugee" was written by... Tom Petty! Well, Petty and Mike Campbell, his guitarist. They pretty much cowrote most of the Heartbreakers songs.

The reference to "the father, the son, and the holy ghost" in the song. = Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valens. All killed in the same plane crash.
As my bonus question: Who skipped the plane ride so Richie Valens could go with The Big Bopper and Buddy Holly?
 
Ah, I knew that all three had perished in the same plane crash, but I assumed that the "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" reference was literal. Thanks!

I do believe that it was Patsy Kline who skipped the fatal flight.

Actually it wasn't Patsy Kline. But you're in the right genre. :D

BTW, I just can't believe that Don MacLean was sober when he wrote this. (due to the era) I imagine the images were "helped" along with some sort of "mind grease" that is either injected, or ingested.
