Should really check my facts first rather than just asking a question from memory.

M5Power's answer may well in fact be correct, I don't know. If I'd asked the right question, "which band borrowed Primal Scream's keyboard player after theirs was tragically killed", then the answer would have been "The Charlatans".

Allow me to point out that no onw has correctly answered my question re: who wasn't on the plane with Richie Valens, The Big Bopper, and Buddy Holly.
Hint: Richie Valens was getting sick and the person that wasn't on the plane gave up their seat so RV could get home quicker.

You may be right, but I've heard from several different books/people that Holly and company were sick and tired of riding on the bus between tour dates so one day when the bus broke down, they decided for the hell of it to hire a Beechcraft airplane to take them to the next show. Of course, twenty minutes after takeoff the plane went down an killed them all.
 
That's semi-true. Valens was afraid to fly.
He relented, and was ready to fly home because he was getting sick.
The Beech was able to "safely" fly with three of the four members of the tour.
Who was the lucky one who stayed behind?

I too, had to research a bit to confirm my answer. He sang about the two good ole boys and how " the mountain mud'll get em' but the law never will"

Interestingly enough, I had thought to ask a question earlier in reference to John Schneider and his short lived singing career.

Note: Schneider is not my answer, but I'll let M% move ahead with his answer.

Okay - the answer, of course, is Waylon Jennings. As much as I'm not a Jennings fan (or a country fan at all) it would've been real tough for Holly and Jennings (though at the time Jennings wasn't much) to die in that plane crash.

Another question... hmmm...

1 - U2's 1987 CD "The Joshua Tree" had more good songs on it than I care to name. What was the non-hit ballad "One Tree Hill" about?

1 - It's sometimes believed that the Bruce Springsteen song "Mansion on the Hill" is about several New Jersey slayings in 1971. Can you name the case?

One Tree Hill is about One Tree Hill in Auckland that was attacked by Maori activists.

He has been haunted by the last exchange he shared with the guys on the plane.
They said "We hope your ol' bus breaks down"

Nah - it was dedicated to and written for his funeral, but it wasn't about him. I should've worded the question differently.

Actually, it wasn't a drummer. It was the late Who bassist John Entwhistle, because he said that ex-Yardbirds guitarist Jimmy Page's new blues band was going to fly about as well as a lead zeppelin.

The rest, as they say, is history.
 
Eh? I'm fairly certain it was a drummer. You have the band correct though.
 
Aargh, upon inspection Entwistle did come up with the name. Bonus is correct too.
 
OK, I was going to go one way with my next question, but instead I'll go the other:

Question: Jimmy Page played guitar for the Yardbirds before founding Led Zeppelin. Name the other two famous guitarists who were in the band.

Bonus: The Who's first big hit, My Generation, is famous for its divebombing bass solo played by John Entwistle.

A) What kind of bass did he play it on?

B) What happened during the recording session that almost prevented the single from getting taped?
