So Im trying to put together a "Stable" of cars that I'll be able to use for most situations online.

From low HP street car races to full blown race cars.

What are some necessities? List the car and the regulations it best fits. Thanks!

I'll just briefly list some that i use at different PP's, keep in mind some are for short tracks like eiger (WRX etc.) and some are for high speed tracks like Monza (LFA etc), hope this helps:

Road Cars
Daihatsu Copen Active Top: 400 PP
Mazda Roadster (premium one) 400-450 PP
Lexus LFA: 500-550 PP
Subaru WRX Sti '10: 500-550 PP
Nissan GTR V-spec '09: 550-600 PP
Tommy Kaira ZZ-II: 550-650 PP (Only gets to around 640 PP, but is an amazing car)

Race Cars
Suzuki Cappucino RM: 400 PP (tight tracks only)
Subaru Susco Dunlop Impreza: 450-500 PP
Subaru WRX RM (only RM wrx, forget rest): 500-550 PP
Nissan GTR Yellowhat Tomica: 600-650 PP
Peugeot 908 Hdi Team Orica Matmut: 650-700 PP
Anything above: Minolta Toyota or Nissan R89C / R92CP

For the 450-600PP range of tuned road cars, I've found the naturally advantageous models to include Nissan Skylines and GT-Rs, Corvette Z06, Mazda RX-7 (later versions), Honda NSX, and the BMW M3 '07. The 'Vette and the M3 (indeed any BMW) are particularly enjoyable to drive.

'08 Civic Type R, 420-450
'98 or '99 Integra type R, 430-490
RUF 3400S, 480-520
'06 S2000, 470-510
any of the M3, 470-550
'02 NSX-R, 470-550

If the races are PP limited, the usual top choices are:

For LMP races: Toyota Minolta
SuperGT: Takata Dome NSX ´03
DTM: Opel Astra ´00
GT1-GT2: Ford GT LM Test Car Spec II (the black one)
Street Cars: Ferrari 458 Italia and Nissan GTR V-spec

That alone covers a lot of races.

I have been meaning to buy an Evora and tune it. I have both an street and RM version of the 111R.

I was spanked by a 458 today. So I should probably look into that as well.

I only use production cars; I use these 90% of the time:

Ferrari 458 Italia...
Ferrari 430 Scuderia...
Lotus Elise 111R...
Honda/Acura NSX...
Mazda RX-7...
Tommy Kaira ZZ-II...
Mazda Miata MX-5...
Nissan GTR...

Mostly light and 'fun' cars to drive with predictable handling and handle power upgrades very well. Honda S2000 is a car that I liked when it had modest power upgrades but with max upgrades, it gets more difficult to handle as it has traction/grip issues when modified too much...

Online a lot of people use the Audi R8 which I haven't played with much; very easy car to drive fast and very good for it PP level... Corvette ZR-1 is a car I'd like to use more, bit of a handful if you max out its power, so I want to take some power off of it before I use it online... Lexus LFA is another car I'd like to use that I race against a lot but haven't gotten it out of my garage more than a couple times...

I like the RUF 3400S, RUF modified Porsche Boxster but its not too competitive in its PP class so I use it offline mostly... Lotus Evora and McLaren MP4-12 (?) are cars I'd like to use more but difficult to use with sports soft tires or less, imo lack of front downforce really hurts these MR (mid engine, rear wheel drive ) cars; front end on these lose traction too easily so they can't handle corners at near as high speed as they should.

Tried using a few setups posted for the 458, they all seem to be trash and understeer, even though everyone says they are perfect. Dont know what Im doing wrong..

Most of the tunes, not just the 458 Italia, that I see in the tuning section are like this. It's probably because they're use a DS3 and offline tuning. A lot seem to have a stiffer shock set up in the front than the rear, which is causing understeer.

Look for the cars whose HP is not too far from their PP. Most races are set to PP and alot of guys will adjust their HP down so their PP comes under the limit set for the races. They also add a bunch of stuff to their cars to make their HP higher. You'll need to do the same. A car like the SLS-AMG is a perfect example. High HP to match it's PP, it'll be competitive in every race.

Well, to be honest, all you need for racing online is lifetime supply of Racing Soft tires.

Cars are pretty much irrelevant.

Sadly.

Great thread this, I love seeing such a large variety of cars everyone is listing. Many other games everyone will list the same 2 or 3 cars.

the lotus is Rm is a definite and
prehaps a skyline or a well tunned gtr
civic type R the ek version
a ford gt or something like that and get a gt500 car as well.

to be honest the secret to winning is the gearing of the cars and a bit of camber. this is why elises and other small cars can smoke the super cars as many people don't know how to properly set up a car and so cars are hugely over powered. Also regrettably I have to agree with amar racing soft are often required.
but just have 4 or 5 cars which can cover the various pp limits and are well tuned

S2000 GT1 turbo is my fave road car to race with. Mental fast in any race above 550PP.

Also have a BMW M3 for 500PP+ races and an Impreza STi - both set up for the 'Ring.

All three are very difficult to beat.

For race cars, I like the CLK-GTR and Xavani GTR

You also need a robber van. The Toyota bB is the ultimate robber van. It isn't the faster car at all but it is alot of fun.

My Ford GT does good from 550-620PP races. It handles much better than most of my cars and the torque band is great with upgraded supercharger or not.
I usually pull away from everyone on the straights.

Might sound cocky but it does put most of the R35 GTR's and 458 Italia's to shame on the Nuburgring atleast

Made some headway with the 458 tonight. Dropped like 5s or so off my laptimes around Nurb GP/D.

Still, the sucker understeers, just doesnt feel light at all.. softer front spring rate seemed to help a lot, might keep going that direction.

Quoted for truth.

Even if you are the host and set Sports Tires restrictions, people in the room are likely going to vote-kick you outta there anyway, unfortunately.

On-topic: I find the RUF Yellowbird has amazing performance compared to the PP values given to it in game. The downside is that you have to be an excellent driver to make the most of it. Which is perhaps why it gets low PP ratings.

Public online racing in GT5 is plagued by Racing Soft compound beyond any reason and logic. Literally 90% of rooms that uses *road cars* and *low PP* are based on Racing Soft compound.

There is no way you can even find a room that hosts Sports Compound in 90% of tries and Comfort compound is just eradicated specie.

Having any particular car for online racing is pretty much irrelevant now. All you need are few cars that can cope inside appropriate PP levels and with both engine restrictors and weight ballast in this lunatic *50% adjustment* category you can pretty much exploit the race in your behalf.

All you need at this point is a nice - preferably duped - supply of Racing Soft compound and you're ready to GT5 Public Online in its current form.

** Oh, yeah, this too. Call me a troll once more just because you can't comprehend my point for any reason and I will report you immediately. Corrected for you mate.

The Yellowbird is one of the very few cars in Gt5 that really reward driver skill. In the 550pp sports hard scene, it's a real contender. Fantastic in the corners but even if you make a small mistake it's hard to pass due to it's wayward handling and on the straight it's really fast too.

My recommendations (all of these are for around 500pp sports hard racing):

NSX's, whatever they are they're almost always brilliant.
RUFs, Yellowbird BTR RGT all brilliant.
Elises, really fast usually but I don't like racing them.
