Welcome to my car review thread. The pictures below are links to the reviews. L, H and F stand for the criteria I judge the cars on. L being looks, H is handling and F stands for how fun the car is to drive. The total score is the average of these three. I should add that these reviews are my opinions and they can vary from yours so don't feel offended if you don't agree with me.

The second post will be filled with leaderboards to track a cars performance etc.

Requests
(Not taking any at the moment. Have a big list of request to work through first. See the list of requests I'm going to review below the leaderboards in the second post )

I will be taking requests when it says so in the thread title. If you like a car very much or hate it and want to see what I think of it feel free to ask me for a review. When I have a lot of request I will add them in the second post to pending reviews. I may take a while to work through those because I also like to review some cars I choose myself.

If you run a GT5 Tuning Garage or you just think you have a great tune you can also ask me to review a tuned car. I will need a full list with all the tuning done to the car. I now have almost (thanks to a lost game save) every car in the game so you can ask me about any car. Make sure you tell for what purpose you tuned the car and on what track so I can take that into account in the review.

Here you can follow the performance of the cars I've reviewed. The first picture links you to a google spreadsheet with the lap times of the two track every car gets tested on and the results of the speed tests.

I plan on adding more boards later to see which car I think look the best etc. The Top Gear Power Lap board is just a fun thing I like to do. The font is meant to be sloppy.

Nice review, I was also interested in this car, the thing I found was most unrealistic was that I hit 118mph, slightly optomistic, but not so much that as how quick it got there, much quicker than real life, its like wind resistance wasn't modelled at all. (Tested Pre 2.0)

Yeah the acceleration seemed a bit quicker too. Didn't really pay attention to it a lot so can't really compare it. 189km/h(118mph) should be possible. When I hit 185 km/h I just picked up 3 friends with their luggage from the airport so there was a lot of weight added. But that highway was about 10 km long, so I really need the test track to try it :D

Citroen C4 Coupe 1.6 '05

Next up is the car my father had when I was getting my drivers license. I sometimes took it for a drive to practice and also driven it after I had my license when I got the chance. What I remember most about this car was how easy this car was to drive. I could turn the steering wheel with one finger. Of course that's something I can't test in game. Same with how comfortable the car was. So I will focus my tests on handling.

There is a big difference between the car in the game and the one my father had. He had the 1.6 or the 1.8 version. I couldn't find anything about the 1.8 version so I decided to get close to the specs of the 1.6 version. That meant decreasing the horsepower from 170 to 110, but I could also decrease the weight to 1175 kg.

SPECS

110 hp
1175 kg
341 pp
Fresh from the dealership so no mileage on this one.
Standard Tyres: Comfort Soft

LOOKS

I always liked how this car looked. It had some special stuff that seperated it from other cars. Like the steering wheel where the middle doesn't turn and the digital see-throught speedometer. What I also liked about this coupe model was the back with the very small window and another one on top. The headlights look great too.

looksi.jpg

SOUND

What I remembered most about the sound of this car was well.. the lack of it. This car was so quiet. If you drove it how you should when you want to spare fuel you wouldn't hear the engine. Testing this was hard because the car in the game has a 2.0 engine. It made more sound than the one I drove did so that was no suprise. The big suprise was the very annoying sound it made in the game when stationary. I can't describe it but you should check for yourself. I never heard this sound coming from the real car.

Test 1: Nurburgring Nordschleife Variable Weather/Time lap time

Another car that drives like I remember it. Even easier to drive than the Corsa and a bit faster aswell. Didn't have any problems with driving clean so also finished this in one lap. The lap was in the night so I think it's safe to say that the handling of this car is great.

It had some problems going uphill. I can't know if this was a problem with the real one aswell as there are no elevation changes in The Netherlands. It's probably because I've lowered the power but didn't lower the top speed. I didn't do this to compensate the extra torque it had compared to the real one.

Forgot to look at the top speed but I think it was around 190. I never tried to drive real fast in the real car but I remember my brother saying he reached 200 in it so that's something I will have to try on the new test track.

Test 2: Checking if there's understeer in Monaco

If there is one track that really punishes understeer in GT5, it's Monaco. Understeer will send you into the walls there. So let's try it with this car.

I definately found some understeer in this car. Not much and it only seems to be a problem when taking tight corners at speeds lower than 70 km/h. The last corner before the tunnel and the second to last corner proved to be problematic sometimes. But overall it wasn't that bad and most of the laps I would not notice it. Did a laptime of 2:09,628.

azurqk.jpg

Test 3: Top Gear Test Track Power Lap

A great car for this track. It follows the lines perfectly. Bentley and Follow-through were taken with full speed and no hint of understeer on this track. Not even in the slow Hammerhead where it was very easy to stay on the inside of the corner. Was able to take the last two corners pretty fast so ended up with a time of: 1:38,239, beating the Corsa by more than 7 seconds.

tgtt2.jpg

CONCLUSION

Another car with a biased view from me. And I also liked this one. It's a low pp car so it's not hard to drive. It is a fun car to drive because of the lack of understeer. I ended up doing over 15 laps on Monaco when testing the understeer and never thought about checking the time or laps to see if I should stop.

I like how it looks, especially the interior. It definately misses power. Shown by the way it struggled to get uphill on the Nurburgring and Monaco but on a flat track like the Top Gear track it's a great car to drive. I drive without the racing line but I think it would be very easy to follow it when it's on. The final score is:

16/20

The following part was added later when I decided to rate the cars on three points: Looks, Handling and the Fun while driving this car.

Looks: 7/10
Handling: 8.5/10
Fun: 7.5/10
Total: 7.7/10

I enjoyed your Opel Corsa review, fellow Dutchman :).

About the sound of the corsa, how did it compare with reallife when you were driving (ingame) in low RPM ranges? Remember that in reallife one does not beat the engine as in GT5, so maybe that was the reason of the lound sound? (i do not have any experience with a CORSA IRL, so i cannot compare unfortunately)

Nice review anyway :)

Nice reviews!!! What are you going to test next?

Thank you, I don't know yet. Most of the other cars I've driven in real life are not in the game or too far off. Like you can't compare an M3 to a 320 :D I'm thinking about the Golf V GTI but I'll check if there's something in the 1000 cars I want to test.

It's been a view years since I had the car but I remember a very different sound, not just louder. And it was my first car so I really tested it to the limit :D

Edit: misread your comment. I didn't really test the Corsa in low RPM in game. I did do that with the C4.

Aston Martin V12 Vanquish '04

Next up is a car that I have no experiences with in real life. I've seen it once when I was at a car show but never heard the sound or seen it drive in real life. So my Sound comparison will be based on YouTube videos if I find some and shouldn't be taken too serious.

I did hear and see it drive in the James Bond movie: Die Another Day. Seeing it in that movie made it my dreamcar for a while. For those who haven't seen the movie. This car can be invisible and shoots rockets while driving on ice. This is not Mario Kart so I won't be able to test how well it shoots other cars and apart from an invisible interior we are lucky enough to see this beautiful car. I also can't test it's handling on ice because GT5 doesn't allow me to put Snow Tyres on it.

SPECS

Max Power: 487 hp at 7000 rpm
Weight: 1835 kg
Performance Points: 509
Max Torque: 566 Nm at 5500 rpm
Sport Hard tyres

LOOKS

This car looks great. All Aston Martin's do in my opinion. The lines on this car are amazing. The hood with the middle bit heightened gives it a strong look. The back somehow seems wider than the front because of the abrupt change in the line behind the door. But when you look closer you'll see that that front and back are the same width. From the side it looks like it's going fast without moving because of the window and the (don't know how to describe it in English) the line accessory over the vent (?). The only thing I really don't like is the thick black line around the headlights. Maybe I'll paint the car black so I don't see them anymore.

SOUND

The sound in the video's I've found seems a bit louder and a lower tone than the one in the game. I'm not going to comment to much basing it on YouTube videos. I do like the sound in the game. Watching the replay with the surround sound on sounded great.

Test 1: Nurburgring Variable Weather/Time lap time

Seemed like the game knew it failed on me because I couldn't test the car on snow because when I loaded up Nurburgring it was raining with 100% surface water. The closest I will get to snow and ice with this car.

My problem started in the very first corner. After two cars in the 300pp range I forgot the power of normal supercars. I barely held it on the track and continued with care. The Vanquish is an FR car so I expected oversteer. It was controllable oversteer though. Being easy on the throttle made sure I could get through most corners without a problem.

The first real troubles started at Schwedenkreuz (thanks Google), the fast corner before the corner with the gravelpit before the second sector split. I didn't manage to keep it on track and slammed into the wall. Ending my 2 lap clean streak I had build up with the slow cars.

Other than that there weren't real troubles with this car. Fast corners with the wet track were really fun to take. Letting go off the throttle for less than a second followed by full gas made sure you could slide a bit through them which is fun to do, but probably scary as hell if you try that in real life.

The second mistake was in corner before the straight with a banking like in Karussel. I couldn't get on the banking followed by a sort of a drift to regain the line. The really fast corner after the splittime on the straight was the best moment with this car. With the method I explained above this corner was a real blast to take at over 270 km/h. I really thought I would go off track but the car was great. Ended the lap with a time of 8:33,969 in the red.

maikelj.jpg

In the second lap the rain had stopped and the lap started at 99% surface water. Knowing the handling of the car now it was a great lap. Coming up on Schwedenkreuz again it seemed like I was going to hit the wall again when I had 3 wheel in the grass but the car suprisingly got out of it and I could take the next corner with ease.

schwe.jpg

I continued through the fun fast sections again and managed to get onto the banking this time.

banking.jpg

I was a bit more cautious in the fast corner at the straight dropping just below 270km/h and managed a clean lap ending at 84% surface water with a time of: 8:28,573.

Test 2: Controlling the oversteer in London.

I was thinking oversteer would be the biggest problem of this car so I took it to a city track with slow corners. After a couple of laps I found out that oversteer wasn't the problem. It was very easy to control and was only there if you tried to go full throttle through the slow corners.

The main problem was it's understeer while braking. You really need to have a good braking point. The corners that gave most problems were the two 90 degree corners. Braking too late and hard will cause it to understeer away from your line and braking too early means you will have to be careful with the throttle to not drift through the corners. After a couple of laps you will find the braking points and should have no problem getting this car around the track. Best lap time was: 59,906

londonx.jpg

Test 3: Top Gear Test Track Power Lap

Time for this cars second test in the UK. The real Vanquish did the track in 1:36,2. That seems a bit slow to me. The Vanquish S did it in 1:27,1.

Had some troubles getting a clean lap with this car. The other two I've reviewed only took one try to get a lap. But here I had some problems. First I braked too early and bumped into the tyres in Chicago. After that I understeered into the invisible wall at Bentley because I wanted to take it too fast. And after that I oversteered onto the final straight and spun out after going too fast through Follow-Through.

But the clean lap was great. A little oversteer in Chicago followed by a completely controlled Hammerhead. Bentley was no problem braking a bit which made it possible for me to take followthrough at full speed. Got two wheels on the grass in the last corners which slowed me down a bit but managed a time of: 1:22,628. A bit fast comparing it to the real world times.

tgva.jpg

CONCLUSION

I'm glad I chose another great car to review. Being a dreamcar of mine meant I had pretty high standards judging it. I like the sound in the game and I knew it looks good so I was more interested in the handling because I probably never get to test that in real life.

The laps on Nurburgring were amazing. I can advice anyone to take it onto a full wet track and enjoy the fast corners, especially the last one. It does have some problems with handling though as seen on the other two tracks. Oversteer at low speed and understeer when braking hard. The oversteer is really easy to control but you need to study a tracks braking points to not experience the understeer.

Final score is: 16/20. Yea, I just gave a Vanquish the same score as a Citroen C4. Although it's ofcourse a much better car I was biased with the first 2 reviews because I liked the cars in real life and biased review scores shouldn't be taken too serious :P The Aston is a very good looking car and fun to drive. Can't wait for the V12 Vantage!

The following part was added later when I decided to rate the cars on three points: Looks, Handling and the Fun while driving this car.

Looks: 9/10
Handling: 7/10
Fun: 9/10

Great reviews.

I especially liked your Corsa review because it was also the first car I drove (mine was a dark blue 1.7 CDTI Ecotec diesel). :)

about the looks of Aston Martins, what about the butt ugly cygnet?

Oh yeah. Forgot about that one. Don't know what got into their heads when they decided to go with that :D

Thank you. It's a fun car to drive in real life. Perfect for driving in a city.

I stole the 4-in-1 photo idea from C-ZETA, hope you don't mind.

I swear I don't use them anyway.

But anyway, looking detailed, and liking your style. I know I'm including specs once Route X comes though - pretty much all of the tests there will be useful to include, I know. In fact, I might well be making a detailed Route X review for myself...not to mention giving the other 6 cars treatment too.

Toyota Prius G '09

Now let's make a big jump from cars I like to one I really don't, the Prius. You see more and more of them and I always laugh a bit when I remember a thing I once heard about the production of the Prius. The production of this car causes more emission gases than it saves because of the hybrid system. I don't know if it's true, just something I've heard. I want to try out this car in the hope that it suprises me in some way. Maybe it's fun to drive. You never know.

SPECS

Max power: 101 hp at 5000 rpm
Weight: 1350 kg.
Performance Points: 337
Max Torque: 145 Nm at 4500 rpm
Comfort Normal tyres

LOOKS

Even though it shares some lines with the C4 it has a completely different style. If I had to compare the front with a face I would call it a babyface. It just looks like it's too nice with the small lights and the small grill. The back also has a small window like the C4 but this is a lot smaller and I don't really see the purpose of it. The car just hasn't got any special details that makes me like it.

looksp.jpg

SOUND

Not too much words on the sound. There hardly is any sound and it's boring and mindnumbing.

TESTS

Added Route X Speed Tests:

• 0-400m: 19,470
• 0-1000m: 34,164

Test 1: Nurburgring Variable Weather/Time lap time

The track conditions were good. No rain or surface water. Started my first lap thinking I would only have to do 1 lap like the other two low pp cars but the Prius had different plans. It took me three laps to set a clean lap. Combined with the time setting set at 30 it meant I got to see the sunrise and beginning of sunset.

The first two laps were just awful. This car has some serious bad brakes and strange unpredictable understeer. One moment you're taking corner after corner thinking: This car drives pretty good. The next moment you're scraping the wall again. It's like there's a little devil inside hiding and waiting for the right moment to kill some trees but lucky for them the car gets stopped by the guardrails. Here are some pictures to describe the first two laps.

nurbp.jpg

For the third lap I knew I had to do something different before I ended up doing a lot more laps in this car. I thought that I might be distracted because I didn't like the car so I switched to bumper cam and put my headphones with some music on. It helped in some way but also did something that shouldn't happen.

People who drive will know the feeling when they suddenly realise they have been driving without really knowing what they did in the last minutes. That feeling happened with me in the Prius, I was just listening to the music and not really paying attention to how I was driving. Don't get me wrong. I think it's special that something like that happens in the game, but it shouldn't happen on an exciting track like the Nurburgring. It did help me get a clean lap although it was slower than the two before filled with crashes.
Lap
1: 9:52,052
2: 9:45.928

3: 9:54,098

Here's how the car looked after the three laps. Guess the money you save on fuel goes to new bodywork :D

dampr.jpg

Test 2: Top Gear Test Track Power Lap

As you can see I skipped to what normally is test three. After half an hour on the Ring I just had enough of this car and wanted to get it over with. I hoped it would suprise me with it's handling, but it didn't. I don't think another test will change my mind.

Took me two tries to get a clean lap. Ended up in the invisble wall just before the finish in the first try. The handling of this car is just strange. I went wide in Chicago followed by a great line through Hammerhead. Bentley and Follow-through could be taken at full speed and at the end the understeer returned again. Well it did it in: 1:43,057.

tgttp.jpg

CONCLUSION

I started this test hoping I would like it. But I'm sad to say that I didn't like it. If this is supposed to be the future of cars I am scared. It's not that I hate hybrids. The new NSX concept looks like a great car. It just that I hate the Prius. The looks are boring. The sound is boring. The handling is unpredictable and the brakes are bad.

Slow cars can be fun to drive, but they need to have no understeer, or at least understeer than you can predict and control. Sometimes the handling was good and then you start to think: Why doesn't it handle like this the whole time while running into the guardrails again. It took me 2 laps to take a 490 HP FR clean around the Ring on a full wet track where the first lap only had 2 mistakes. I needed 3 laps filled with mistakes for a clean one in a 101 hp FF car. I think it's safe to say the handling on the Prius is bad. This was a test and it failed bad, it had it's moments like the line through Hammerhead, but I can't do anything else than giving it a bad grade: 7/20.

Love this photo by the way. It looks like The Stig doing a facepalm: ''Why the hell am I driving this car.''

Goes to show how much of an improvement the TC is. Looks crazy, is the fastest of the three slowest TCs at Tsukuba despite having perhaps the worst drive...but it is still a brilliantly fun(ny) thing. Really, all three of the slowest TCs are great - CR-Z looks great and handles brilliantly, Roadster looks great and has a good sound, Prius looks great and is just a brilliant drive overall.

The test track should be great. I'll add tests from the cars I already reviewed later. But first I'll try the new cars.

Yeah I really don't get how the normal car could be so bad. I also enjoyed the TC and that also had some details that made the car special. The normal version just missed that kind of stuff. Maybe I'll do a Prius TC review later.

I'm doing all my test again for new WrongGear on new track, because of lost save and Today I went back to Vanquish. I have to agree that it's a brilliant car. Maybe there are faster machines with similar PP, but it's so nice to drive you just don't want to put it back to garage.

Very detailed and nice reviews. Keep them coming. And good to see some unusual cars here :) I still can't decide if I should bring my write ups about cars to the main section.

You should. Just took a quick look at your threads and they are amazing. Some awesome work with photoshop. The only thing I can do with phtoshop is resize the pictures and put four of them together in one photo :D

The Vanquish really is a great car. I like it a lot. Just found out that for the movie scenes on the ice they replaced the engine to a Ford V8 and made it 4WD.

Photoshop is my main tool in work :)
If you liked Aston at Nordschleife, you should try BMW M3 GTR road car, one of my best 'Ring moments ever :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to try it next time I play GT5. Man that GT5 to real life in photo's comparison of you is looking awesome.

Nice reviews man! Here's a tip: in your startpost, make links to each review. This way it's much more easier to 'navigate' for users unfamiliar with your thread 👍

Was planning on doing that when I had some more pages. Shouldn't be too hard to navigate through them now. I'll revise the first post after the DLC has come out. I'll add some more leaderboards then, like 1/4 mile time and topspeed. Probably in spoiler tags to not make it a huge first post. And some nice picture links to the reviews once I've found out how to make them :P

Thanks. Best vacation ever mainly thanks to GT :)
One tip. Most of your photos are almost totally static. Try to set slower shutter speed (1/60, 1/125 or 1/250) and panning mode 2. Why the hell am I writing this? All is here -> https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=137684 :D

Probably not much :D, although i would rather have a souped up leather clad washing machine, than Aston's being less powerful because of EU regulations. In some ways its amazing....... but most ways it isn't.

I could actually see it being added to GT5. Being based on a Japanese car combined with the brand Aston Martin probably sparked Kaz's attention.

If I have time tomorrow I will try and release one or two reviews again. One of the tuned Opel Corsa. I tuned one to about the specs of the 2007 Corsa OPC. Applied some basic tuning. First impressions are good. If I do a second the car will be a random standard car I didn't use yet. I will start taking some requests if there are any after I'm done with the DLC cars :D

Opel Corsa OPC
Tuned Opel Corsa Comfort 1.4 '01

nrburgringnordschleife6s.jpg

I ended my first review about the Corsa saying that I would probably like it more if it was a bit faster. So I thought I would test that. Opel’s fastest cars are their OPC cars. I looked for the specs of the 2007 Opel Corsa OPC and tried to adjust my Corsa to that one. I got to more than double the amount of horsepower and got very close to the 230 Nm that were advertised with mine having 231 Nm. I did have to add the maximum amount of ballast to get closer to the ’07 OPC’s weight. I upgraded the tyres one notch to the Comfort Soft tyres. The specs of my Opel OPC are found below and under that you can find the tuning I’ve done on it in the spoiler tag.(Couldn't find out how to do a spoiler tag on this forum, only one where you need to highlight the text. It is at the very bottom of the review now.) I’m not good at tuning so don’t expect something special.

I will skip the looks and sound but it does look better now with the new wheels. I couldn’t find a colour to match the blue one most Opel OPC’s have so I chose the closest blue one from Opel I could find. I’ll be doing the Nurburgring and TGTT tests only with this car to find out if it’s still as fun to drive as the stock Corsa and I hope it is improved.

Test 1: Nurburgring Variable Weather/Time lap time

Track conditions were dry. I started the lap and you could immediately feel the increase of power. The very first corner is a good one to find out if the car has low speed understeer. It has some more than the original but that’s something you would expect if you double the power of a front wheel driven car. It wasn’t bad though because the car was still a very good drive through the many corners of sector 1.

Had a scary moment at Schwedenkreuz. I wanted to see if I could go through it at full speed so I went to the outer side of the track to get a good line. I accidentally went a bit too far and the right rear tyre went into the grass which got my car into a slide. As you can see in the pictures it looks like I’m about to go straight through the grass on the inside but I steered right hard and slided to the other side. Managed to keep two wheels on the track and escaped a dirty lap with a bit of luck. But it was a very fun moment. Especially when I could just brake easily in to the next corner and continue without any problems like nothing happened.

Continued through the next fast downhill sector where it looked like the car was glued to the track. Thought I felt some hints of oversteer so I decided to test that by braking very late into Bergwerk. It didn’t go as well as I hoped (see 3rd picture in the 4-in-1) and I just managed to keep it from the guardrails and continue my lap.

Didn’t have any problems later on. Karussel was really easy to take with this car. Full throttle way before the middle keeping it on the banking. At the end of what is sector 3 in the AMG challenges I found the oversteer I was looking for. Slid through the corners which brought a smile upon my face. The 4th photo in the 4-in-1 photo shows the slide.

The next sector had some annoying understeer but when you experience the understeer in a fast corner it’s really easy to control by letting go off the throttle for a moment. Another bit of fun FF car oversteer in the speedy downhill corners a bit before the straight. It hit a top speed of 220 on the straight which is close the the advertised 225 of the Opel Corsa OPC and ended the lap with a time of: 8:57,670, less than a second slower than a Golf V GTI time that was on my board.

Test 2: Top Gear Test Track Power Lap

Well let’s test the car on a flat track. First thing you will notice is that it has some problems getting off the line. Huge wheelspin when taking off. Got a clean lap in the first try. Braked late into Chicago which caused a bit of a drift and some very bad understeer at the exit of Hammerhead. Bentley, Follow-through and the last two corner were no problem for this car and it did a laptime of 1:32,675.

CONCLUSION

I started this test to find out if I could make the original better. I think I did. It has some understeering problems but overall it is a great drive. Sliding through the corners of Nurburgring in a small hatchback is fun for me. I didn’t manage to keep the perfect handling of the original but made it more fun to drive. On a flat track like the TGTT the problems are easier to notice. But when I take this car out it will be on the Nurburgring and for that purpose it is great. I wouldn’t recommend this car for an endurance race on the TGTT because it eats tyres on that track. Still the car feels improved to me and since the original got a 13/20 I will give this one a 15/20.

The following part was added later when I decided to rate the cars on three points: Looks, Handling and the Fun while driving this car.

Looks: 5.5/10
Handling: 6.5/10
Fun: 8.5/10
Total: 6.8/10

  • Engine stage 3
  • ECU upgrade
  • Intake upgrade
  • Race Air filter

Good work :) Search for the Ardenblau or Arden Blue pearl from the Opel/Vauxhall Tigra. It's not exactly spot on the OPC color but it matches the name and it's the closest I think :)
